I've always found this language to be so mysterious and thought I would never understand its ways. It's very different from any other language, its writing rules are not something we're used to, even the pronunciation of the sounds is different, but pretty easy to grasp, actually. It takes practice. Thank you so much, it's obvious that a lot of work went into this, appreciate it. Well organized and easy to understand.

@nisthavats56062 жыл бұрын
@@pillowsandblankets1432 as he said, when ㅇ is used before a vowel at the starting of a syllable, it has no sound For eg: 안녕 (annyeong - hello (informal)) I'm sure you have heard this word a lot if you watch kdrama or kpop. Here the first ㅇ,i.e., 안 is pronounced as 'aan' where the 'aa' sound it solely from the vowel ㅏ and the n sound is from ㄴ. That means ㅇ had no sound when it was used at the starting of the syllable. But then when you see the second syllable it has ㅇ at the end of it. 녕 is pronounced as nyeong where the nyeo sound is from 녀 (ㄴ give n sound and ㅕ gives a yeo or yaw sound, you'll learn it in next lessons probably) and the ng sound at the last is from ㅇ. That means when it is used at the end it has a sound but when its used at the starting it has no sound. Other example for ng sound can be - 사랑 sarang (love) Other example for no sound - 아이 aaii (child)

For example, the “k” sounds like a “k”, the “t” sounds like a “t”, etc. I cannot tell the difference with any of these! Will Koreans people be able to understand me if I cant verbalize those subtle sounds properly?

@today239154 ай бұрын
I am native Korean. Hangeul has many variations and many subtle differences, but it is much simpler than English in terms of conveying the exact meaning. English often has different meanings due to differences in pronunciation, but Hangeul is mostly understood in context and Korean don't care subtile pronounciation. Foreigners have no problem talking to Koreans even if they just ignore the details. Most people do not have to speak the exact language as government interpreters.

hihi billy if possible please do reply. I have a little confusion. In 6:01 the way you pronounce the 돌 it seems like its ending with a 'L' sound tho that shouldn't be the case as you've told before the pronunciation isnt something like hard 'r' or 'l' but im just confused with that consonant overall. Also ive seen people use that consonant maybe in a different way not sure how but i guess it sometimes depends on the word you're saying sometimes that consonant sounds like an 'l' and other times it sounds like an 'r'. I feel like I wouldn't be able to study further if i have confusion with this.
@GoBillyKorean3 жыл бұрын
It's simply due to the letters not being English, so your ears are not yet adjusted to hearing them. They are going to sound like different sounds to you depending on how hard they're pronounced, or what words they appear in, despite the actual Korean letter not changing. I don't know if I'm the one not capable of hearing the difference, but I really struggle to catch the difference between the ㄴ at the end of a triplet syllable and the ㅇ in the same position. The concept of ㅇ sounding like the english "ng" doesn't really works, as every time Billy uses ㅇ I can't hear the final G, basically transforming ㅇ in another N sound. Am I doing something wrong? Is it that perhaps I'm struggling in this case because I'm no English speaker?
@GoBillyKorean3 жыл бұрын
That's pretty normal, because ㄴ isn't "N" in English but is softer, so your brain might not hear it as ㄴ but as ㄷ or even ㅇ as a beginner. It will get better, but it can take some time and practice.
