I haven't played 4 yet. Although he is stripped of the blades of chaos by Aries before his final battle with Aries. I believe that the blades of Athena are a gift taken away when he falls in the river Styx, where he gets the blades of exiles. Clearly at the start of 4 from the trailer Kratos has no chained blades attached to his wrist so clearly he can and has broken whatever curse it was that was meant to keep them attached.

This is a long theory so hang on: I always had this thought that in one of the games that it would be revealed that Athena was actually responsible for everything bad that happened to Kratos in an effort to get control of Olympus. Her first step would be to get control of Ares' most lethal tool Kratos.The only person that would have any chance of killing Ares himself seeing as how the Gods couldn't fight each other. So she influenced Ares into having Kratos kill his own wife and daughter to make Kratos even stronger. Then knowing that Kratos would actually turn from Ares, want revenge, forgiveness and to forget what he had done she offered those to Kratos if he served the Gods, but mostly her. She was his only contact with the Gods. Then she would also have to isolate Kratos from mortal connections. It would also be revealed that it was her as the old oracle that cursed him with having the ashes on his body. Thus isolating him from mortals, because his terrible deed would be visible to all. I recall a scene in GOW 2 that when Kratos was dying from Zeus stabbing him that Kratos flashed back to seeing his wife and daughter dead. In the reflection of their blood you saw Athena. Also there was a flashback in GOW 1 that you saw the old oracle laughing evilly (Athena seeing her plan come together). He would also go on countless missions for the Gods showing them how valuable he was to them. Stopping Atlas and Persephone obviously. During this time she would also be playing up Zeus favoring her over Ares and driving him mad with jealousy to the point where he began to destroy her city. Remember at the end of GOW 1 Ares had dialog saying "Zeus do you see now what your son can do? You cast your favor on Athena, but now her city lies in ruins before me." Then he went with the threat of using Pandora's Box on Olympus. Ares main concern wasn't destroying Zeus or Olympus it was angering Athena by destroying her city and winning his father's attention or approval. Kratos kills Ares, is forgiven but the memories were going to remain. Kratos goes to kill himself, but instead makes him the new God of War. Meaning that Kratos would have to live with his sins forever. That's more of a punishment then a gift and he would blame the Gods for this. He is sitting on the thrown as God of War, but hasn't made a move on Olympus yet. So Athena gives him visions of his long lost brother whom she and Ares kidnapped when he was a child, showing that she and Ares could work together at one point. The reasons she does this is she thinks that the reason Kratos hasn't moved on Olympus yet that he still has some humanity in him. His brother and mother. On his journey to free his brother he ends up killing his mother and his brother is killed also. Cutting his last ties to mortals and then Athena finally makes Kratos a full God. Kratos asks "Is this all a game to you Athena? It is not over Athena. The Gods will pay for this." Then we go to God of War 2 and he begins reeking havoc with his Spartans. Of course they ruined this theory by having Athena save Zeus at the end of the game. It is only in God of War 3 that she turns on Olympus. I had heard that the reason that she finally turns on Zeus/Olympus was because when she sacrificed herself she ascended to higher plain where she "saw truths" that she hadn't before. And it was in that plain of existence where she got corrupted and wanted to seize control for herself. The only thing she didn't count on was Kratos having that little bit of humanity left and sacrificing himself to give mankind the power of Hope. And to once again try to atone for his sins.
@KaptainKuba6 жыл бұрын
Yeah i was actually working on a similar idea, ice notice too that athena is always involved, think about the first game, what city was ares destroying? Athens, given that athena is the goddess of wisdom she could have done something to prepare for an attack, you also mention that she might be the oracle who curses him, and it might be true, think to the moment kratos kills one of the last two furies, before dying she turns into the oracle and says "they were not there by chance kratos" from the context she could be talking about herself, but it gives us room to thinj it was athena too, there are more things, but i wanna saved them for video, thanks for your comment tho
@stonecoldku41616 жыл бұрын
Another thing that I had found out from another channel Jon Ford I believe, he also does a lot of God of War theories and content, was that there was a novelization of the latest God of War game. In it when Kratos is going back home to get the Blades of Chaos and while he is sitting in Freya's boat he begins to think about the Blades, about his history and about how he tried to get rid of them while on his journey from Greece. But they would always return to him. He would throw them off of a cliff, they would be lifted up and they would be put back at his feet. He would throw them in the sea and a storm would force his boat to shore where the blades would be waiting for him on the beach. Maybe they were cursed by Athena to never leave him. I mean she did turn them from the Blades of Chaos to Blades of Athena and then to Blades of Exile. Maybe she changed them back to Chaos and made sure that they would be stuck with him for all time to remind him of his past.
@kyzersoze84084 жыл бұрын
Actually if you watch the cutscene where athena reveals to kratos his true heritage you can see by her speech pattern and eye movements that she was manipulating kratos. Ask yourself this? What purpose did athena revealing the truth of his heritage on the brink of her death serve? Why did she say that other gods would stand against him? She cleverly deflected kratos’s anger to all the olympians instead of just zeus because no one would be left to take the throne by the time he was done with them.

That’s false. They released a little comic of Kratos before the current event of the most recent game. He would go out into the woods and try and and practice controlling his rage, although he didn’t succeed at first he got better in his journey. I thought that was cool and that’s why we can control when he goes on rage, but there’s other times he forcefully goes into rage like we see when those flying creatures that captured Atreus(can’t remember enemy name) he couldn’t control it and thats why we couldn’t cancel his rage until the game put us out of it automatically.

In the clip cory stated that kratos still has the power of hope but hasnt used it yet because he didnt want the Norse gods to consider him a threat because he wanted to live a normal life after he left Greece. Since cory basically confirmed kratos still has the power of hope that automatically cancels out the fact that kratos no longer has the evil curse of rage as well. He still has the rage from the past games but he has spent years learning to control it as seen in the new gow comics that showed kratos practicing for years to control his rage. Theres even one scene from the comics where kratos let's trolls hit him around to see how much he could take before losing control and within the first hit kratos literally loses his shit and tears all the trolls into pieces with his bare hands and has his entire body covered in blood. Cory also stated that kratos is alot stronger than he was in gow 3 but he just hasnt used his full power yet. Hey dude! Nice video! I love to see more channels interested in the GOW lore, and i think you're doing a great job! However, i think i have a few observations, specifically in the part when you mention the Evil contained inside Pandora's Box. btw, please forgive me if i misspell some stuff, english is not my native lenguage :P I don't believe Athena and Kratos where affected by the evil inside the Box, you see, maybe Athena at some point was affected, but after she dies in GoW2 she later explains in GoW3 that her death "brought her to a higher existence" and "she can see truths where she did not before", i think she's no longer affected by the evils of the box at this point and the reason she wants to rule over mankind is just because she believes she's in the position to do it in her "new state", and she aids Kratos to kill Zeus just because she know he's her best bet, knowing that having Zeus infected by fear will just bring pain to mankind. As for Kratos, i doubt the evil "rage" was inside him aswell, at least not as an influence of the box. Athena claims that Hope is a power much stronger than any of the evils inside the box, Kratos has that power inside him since he opened the box in GOW1, i doubt any manifestation of any of the evils from the box would have any effect on Kratos since he already has something way more powerful inside him. However, this doesn't mean Kratos' rage is injustified, and having "Hope" inside him doesn't mean he can't feel any kind of rage. For example, Athena and Hephaestus explain that the evil "Fear" changed Zeus, yes, he helped us defeat Ares in GoW1 but he suddenly became obsessed with the death of Kratos after GoW2 and maybe Ghost of Sparta, so the evils of the box induce a change that the person infected can't fight back, even if the change induced by the box goes against the nature of this person it will change them anyways. I think the best way to explain Kratos' rage is going back to the PSP games, especially Ghost of Sparta, where he discovers most of the lies of the gods and this gives him a reason to hold a grudge against them, Zeus betraying him in GoW2 would be one more reason to feel this way, and at the end of GoW2 he loses it for good, instead of being a "rage" induced by a magical source, it is a completley natural rage that has been acumulated through the years, adding his "God nature" explained in GoW4 it seems reasonable that he was overcomed by a rage induced by his own nature and traumatic events, not because a magical source wich was possibly repelled by the power of hope inside him. So, you might be wondering, if Kratos and Athena were not affected by Rage and Greed, who did? I'd say the ones affected were the only two major gods that were not mentioned when you were assigning the evis: Posseidon and Hades. Why Poseidon? I'd say it's pretty obvious, not only he expresses his anger thowards the spartan during his boss fight, he also imprisoned his princess without apparently no reason at all, this abusive behaviour could be product of the evil "Rage", also, in Poseidon's letter he says "Dearest beloved, I ask your forgiveness for making you the subject of my *rage*." inentional or not, i think is worth mentioning. As for Hades, there is not much proof in his behavior, but, during his boss fight he yells lots of things that could reflect this evil, like "Your soul belongs to ME" "You are in MY domains now!" "Your soul will just make ME stronger!" "MY kingdom!" Besides, i'd say this evil represents him pretty well, a being who becomes much stronger the more souls he claims for himself would be the perfect candidate to be a victim of this evil. However, i don't know if Cory Barlog himself has asigned the evils at some point and you're just telling us what he said, in that case i'm screwed lol Still, i don't see why Hades and Poseidon would not be affected by the evils of the box, especially when Zeus himself was corrupted by fear, and they are way better candidates than Athena and Kratos imo You're making a great job with the GoW videos dude! As i said earlier, i love to see more people getting into the series, i hope to see more content from you in the future :P

Kinda disagree 4:08 there’s points in god of war 3 where you have the option to not kill the citizens. And remember in god of war 1 the ship captain. Kratos chose not to save him twice. I think kratos was always a rageful person. I think after Pandora’s death is when he decided to be less ruthless. That’s when he said ‘she died because of my need for vengeance’ that’s the first time we hear kratos actually have some remorse for suffering he caused and that’s finally when we see kratos do a selfless act.

Persephone saying “your suffering will never end” doesn’t mean she cursed him with Immortality. His suffering was the endless nightmares and reminders of what he did to his wife and daughter. So, basically, Kratos was affected by one of the great evils, Rage, and he told Atreus to control his rage throughout the game. And If that evil is transferred through the bloodline, his curse, Immortality might, in the future, affect Atreus, too. But if killing himself released the power of Hope, it should've released Rage, too. In God of War III, Kratos killed himself and returned from death itself on his own, like, nobody helped him, he did not crawl to man's land from the underworld, etc. What I mean is, his suicide released the power of Hope, and if it had released his curse which is Rage, it migh've lifted his curse of Immortality as well. The last mural in Jotunnheim showing Kratos' death might be pointing at a detail like this. Would be interesting to connect the Pandoras box curses to the other pantheons as well. Like if Odin has fear, Thor has rage, Freya has greed and Baldur has gluttony. Atreus could have hope. Not sure what characters would be able to represent the other curses however.

I dunno about the curses of immortality and memory, those kinda seem like stretches. However, that breakdown of Pandora's Box in GOW3 just made me see the game in a whole new light

Please make a video on the irony of god of war ascension. All Kratos wants for the first 3 games is to have the visions removed and in the first game chronology he is fighting his way out of the reality he is asking for . Such a good idea

I believe theres more curses, for example his blades of chaos. He can't get rid of them and is a constant reminder of the atrocities he has committed. Some corrections: Killing his family was not a "task", Kratos was unaware of his family being in the temple. Ares placed them there while Kratos was blinded by bloodlust so that he would kill them. _"My wife... my child... but how? They were in Sparta..."_ He was cursed with the Act of Servitude, which meant that the Blades of Chaos would forever be fastened to his skin, never to be removed. Although the curse was lifted when Ares YANKED them out of Kratos, the blades still follow him. _"The Blades Of Chaos, forged in the foulest depths of Hades. Once attached the chains remain so, chained and seared to the flesh, a part of the bearer's body. A permanent reminder of Kratos's pledge"_ The Evil of Rage did not go to Kratos. It went to Hades. When Kratos pierced himself with the Blade of Olympus, the Power of Hope was released into the world. _"No! That was meant for ME! They will not know what to do with it!"_

how does persephone curse 'your suffering will never end' have anything to do with immortality, because by my understanding you can die and still have your soul tortured, thusly suffering eternally in death, i dont see the connection.
@amortality9994 жыл бұрын
Or maybe, because of his act of selflessness for releasing the Hope to mankind, he was blessed with immortality and invincibility. I know it isn't the reason but it could make for a good one, nevertheless.

Persephone is the one who cursed Kratos with immortality? Would you happen to have the source for that?
@parkourajis4 жыл бұрын
3:49 Not true. Kratos didnt obtain the evil of rage when the box opened. Rage was his divine power, he always had it, he just learned to control that power briefly before the events of gow4. Athena states in gow3 that when kratos opened the box she thought that the evils would possess him but they possessed the gods of olympus instead. Kratos got the power of hope from pandoras box which he gave away at the last human survivors of greece when he killed himself at the end. Quote from Athena GoW3 Last scene: "That was meant for me they will not know what to do with it" and she is refering to the power of hope Kratos released to the world.

i know is late but i do think mimir will die in the next game. i feel like sindri and brok will create a new body for mimir from there they go on. but something happens to him i feel like odin will capture him again and then later kill mimir cause if you notice in that drawing on the wall where atreus is carrying someone it looks like is mimir... notice how it looks like he has horns that have been shatter and missing a hand,, i totally feel like this is mimir not kratos. also on top of that drawing we see mimir capture again.

I'm not convinced the rage is from the box. Ares would work by blinding his disciples with rage, which is how he got Kratos to kill his family.

Can't help but notice that the 7 evils that were stored in Pandora's box are similar to the 7 deadly sins. I'm not sure if I listed it in the comments before on this channel or on another, but what if at the end of the series after we've gone through every different cultures version of the afterlife it is shown that each version is just one circle or level of hell as listed in Daunte's Divine Comedy?
@KaptainKuba6 жыл бұрын
im familiar with Dantes Divine Comedy, but im not quite sure how you would included in the god of war seires, can you please elaborate more? thanks for the comment by the way
@stonecoldku41616 жыл бұрын
The only way I can think of was a comment made in a TV interview that featured all the game directors from every God of War game to that point. I think it was to promote God of War 3. The first two game directors one of which was Cory Barlog said that originally they pictured that GOW would only be three games and in the third game Zeus would be destroyed in the first 5 minutes. With the Greek Gods out of the way it would lead to a power vacuum that other Gods from other cultures would try to fill. And those would be the bosses that Kratos would fight. Along the journey Kratos would come to the conclusion that mankind's destiny should be in the hands of mankind and not let them be ruled over by any God, Titan or other being. But in destroying the Gods of other cultures Kratos himself would begin to be worshipped as God of Gods. After destroying the last of the would be successors to Olympus' power Kratos would then destroy himself to force mankind to take control their own fate. But as he would die you would see off in the distance a bright star over a city and three wise men riding toward it. Leaving Christianity as the only one left. There were hints to this in GOW 2 some believe. If you Google about that you will find it. Thus the Divine Comedy which is based off of Christianity's version of Hell, Purgatory and Heaven would become the popular version. In the Inferno part of the poem it mentions that some of the levels of Hell are fire and brimstone (what we saw in Greek God of War games) and some levels that are very cold (what we saw in Norse). Now as I mentioned what was put into the box are similar to what are considered the 7 deadly sins it would suggest that in perhaps to make the new Christianity religion more popular they incorporated rituals, stories and other things into it to not alienate those people still left who believed in what they believed in before. It would work for some, but not others and that's why we are still left with so many different religions in the world.

Doesn't God of War 3 say how Kratos took the power of hope not any of the darkness? Also, I didn't take Persephone's statement as a curse, but as a tragic truth (Kratos will always suffer). However, I do see how it could be a curse.
