The Battle of Thermopylae was a historic event that took place in 480 BC, where 300 Spartans led by King Leonidas fought against the massive Persian army. This epic battle has been immortalized in popular culture, including the 2006 movie "300" directed by Zack Snyder. But many are left wondering: where was Kratos during this time? Join me as I delve into the story of the Battle of Thermopylae and explain why Kratos regrets not participating

I had a slightly different theory... I genuinely thought he regrets not dying in that battle, because it might have happened before the battle with the barbarians. Therefore, if he would have died in the battle of Thermopylae, maybe he would have never become such a successful General, thirsting for glory, and ultimately never having to plead Ares for his help. So basically, avoiding the death of his Greek family. He regretted it for a long time, so his wife and daughter would have lived. And when he said that “he no longer regrets it”, it was because now he has a reason to live, that being Atreus and Faye (before she died at least). Even if his original loss still weights on his soul, at least now he has a spark of hope in the form of Atreus. Now after the last two Norse games, he actually learnt how to be a father again (unlike the beginning of GoW 4, where he acted more like a General towards Atreus).

@@itsthatmusic4me I mean, if Kratos died earlier in the timeline, who knows what would have happened to Greece. It's not certain that they would have been OK, but it would have been worth a shot in his mind (at least before he met Faye and had Atreus).

Kuba, I have discovered something, when you go to niflheim as Atreus, you can see a lot of carvings in the walls, I initially thought it was nordic (as it was supposed to) but in fact, many of those are PICTISH, from the picts, the old scottish people, and some look to be scythian, would u do a video about it? I'm sure you can uncover more information than me.

@@camerondon3712 not just that, I know that gods and legends from the picts are hard to find, none of their mythology/deities was wrote, but the irish pantheon can be incorporated into the scottish and UK myths in general when it comes to GOW, it wouldn't be wrong considering that many of the main celtic deities of Ireland/Brittain/Wales were probably the same with slightly similar names, just like Norway/Denmark/Sweden/Iceland myths are held together, we even have a strong base for it, the the fomorians, the race of monsters that came from the sea, could be the giants that came from scandnavia, and they are in conflict with the gods from those lands... just imagine, fighting Nuada the warrior god with a silver arm, having Merlin as a companion (who would probably be a god as well) and having that Excalibur in your inventory.

Tbh, even though I haven't played Chain's of Olympus, I always thought that the opening battle was somewhere like Artemisio which is a place in Greece where the Greek fleet fought the Persian fleet to stop them from reaching Thermopylae . I also thought it was somewhere close to Salamina while the Greek fleet was fighting the Persians Kratos was defending a city close to it or something .

A post I made about Some timeline problems I remembered about this: Explain the references to the Trojan War and the Battle of Thermopylae. Kratos said his favorite poem was about " a cunning general, a war over forbidden love" and Mimir adds that it also includes "a horse that wasn't what it appeared". Kratos said he was there, and that he looked the poem better. He also said that he initially regretted not being at or dying at The battle of Thermopylae. The Trojan War is estimated to take place at some date between 1299 BC and 900 BC and the Battle of Thermopylae in 480 BC. From my understanding Kratos is in his 30s or 40s when he became to God of War and in his 40s to 50s at the end of God of War 3. Even if he was much older, it wouldn't make sense for him to lament over not dying in the Battle of Thermopylae after becoming the God of War, as he could of won the battle for them. He made it sound like he was young when the battle of Thermopylae happened, though this would conflict with the Trojan War dates and him becoming the God of War. A whole timeline would be great including the time between God of War 3 and 2018, but even clearing up this question would be great.

there is one question that lingers in my mind now. As God of war 2018 when Kratos did burry Atreus the warrior that gave hope to the Spartans even among the darkest times as much the Spartan customs, when did it take place? I would think be when he gave up his soul to Aries since to me would make bit sense or after what happened after maybe 2 years after in game world time that happened. Since Atreus/Loki we know in God of War 2018 and Rangnarok Kratos to honor his fallen brotheren Atreus even though his wife still kept the name Loki. Thist just my mini theory since i seen a theory that Kratos burried Atreus his fallen brother in Spartan custum and why Kratos gave his son Atreus aka Loki the name Atreus. Just bit detail wanted to give as much bit a theory when the burrial of his Spartan brother.

my theory it that the reason he didn't died at the battle of Thermopylae was that he was there fight alongside by side with king Leonidas and 300 Spartans and other Greek allies that this was a young Kratos and he was badly injury during one of the fight and on the last day King Leonidas told the injury solider to escape and alot the Spartan who was injury reject and one of them was probably Kratos but king Leonidas force them to leave which happened in real life and that why he regret not dying cause after he heard that king Leonidas and Spartan and Greek allies died, he was mad at himself not dying with his falling brothers

I personally think that the battle with the invading Persians in the beginning of Chains of Olympus is supposed to be the battle of Marathon, which took place in 490 BC, 10 years before the battle of Thermopylae. Everything in-game matches with the historical facts: - Attica was the city being invaded, as was in real life - After the sun falls out of the sky, you make your way through the city of Marathon shortly after, hence the battles namesake The Persian king Kratos killed was likely Darius, the father of Xerxes, who was present at the battle of Marathon irl

Hmm, i like this nice theory that you came up with, altho from a 'technically' standpoint it doesn't really sit well with me. first things first, gow1's original plot was Kratos will commit suicide and "death will be his escape from madness" a death like how we die (from a story standpoint), no afterlife unlike when Ares kills him. now, technically Kratos should be again going to the underworld when he would commit suicide, the god of war 1 novelization mentions that he was looking for river Lethe. released in 2010 Barlog in the directors interview 2010 just says that "death means nothing in the world, okay he killed himself?, but he will still have to live with memories just in another location (underworld)" jaffe alludes the same. so the first thing I wonder is whether that river is canon to gow universe or not. If its not, then it would be a total waste for kratos to kill himself. If it is then I wonder whenever kratos had the chance to goto the underworld why didn't he use the river? (like in gow1 when ares kills him, 2nd in chains) one possible answer that I can think of is that because of the god's promise, drinking from the river would cause all of his memories to be wiped away and he will have to live in the unpleasant part of the underworld (because of his deeds, possibly tartarus) If the gods do it for him, possibly only the nightmares will be removed, and he will still keep living on earth. But then with your theory why would he want to die in that case and goto the underworld as he's been promised by the gods. (as they possibly have a better solution?)
@vlad_47
@vlad_47 11 ай бұрын
The River is of cource canon and Mnemosymne was said to watch over it in Tartarus/Hades in GoW 2 Novel. Why else would Kratos know about it and plan for drinking it after death, if it wasnt real. The real question is whether the River Lethe would even have the power to erase Kratos' visions which was an curse decreed by the Moirai themselves, through the village Oracle. The Styx failed to have its full effects on Kratos and thats the main and most powerful River in Hades. These visions were an very serious thing which could only be supressed by pure rage and purpose, thats why they werent an issue in GoW 2-3. Outside the Gods, only Hope had the power to free Kratos from it.
@HitmanHimself
@HitmanHimself 11 ай бұрын
@@vlad_47 hmm, i do wonder then why cory said that, possibly because of the reason you mentioned. altho I always thought it could be possible because of Hades, because of his hatred against Kratos for the whole persephone matter, he did want to torture him. So maybe he wouldn't let kratos drink from it. order Mnemosymne maybe to not let him drink.

Kuba -- I have a theory about the Gods that Kratos, and his allies, have killed regarding the Higher Plane of Existence. What if in the Pantheons that Kratos goes to, and kills a number of gods for one reason or another, where there is one god from each pantheon that is sent to the Higher Plane of Existence? I say this largely due to the case of Athena. She mentions how she went to such a location, after she was killed by Kratos's hand. So assuming that this is true, and there is such a place, it wouldn't be unheard of for other gods, especially from the Greek Pantheon, to go there as well. On one side, I don't believe that there are more than a certain number of gods, due to the fact that if all of the gods that at least Kratos has killed, went to such a place, I'm sure that none of them wouldn't hesitate to harass, let alone go after, Kratos as a form of revenge for him killing them. Which is why I largely believe that it may be more along the lines that at least one per pantheon. While at the same time, I don't believe that those sent to the Higher Plane of Existence, are limited to those specifically killed by Kratos's hand. One example, being the case of Thor, who was killed by Odin.

not connected to this video but to the mask theory, there is a prophecy in god of war 2018 that shows tyr holding some kind of a mask and idk if it even is a mask but looks close enough and you could maybe make a video conecting that with the new god of war
