There is one theory that I never hear anyone talk about: It’s Nameless. In myth, there are a trio of three roosters that are bred to crow the moment Skoll and Hati consume the sun and moon, alerting to all across the nine realms that Ragnarok has officially begun. There’s one rooster in Asgard named Gullinkambi. There’s one in Jotunheim named Fialar. And there’s one in Helheim who has no master, no caretaker, and thus no name. Odin even straight up denotes it as ‘Nameless’. Now, granted, that doesn’t really _look_ like a rooster, but you could make the argument the developers are taking some creative licensing because a giant cock might look a little silly.

Hræsvelgr is one of three birds(you can interpret them as either eagles or roosters) that will signal the coming of Ragnarök. People shouldn’t consider Zeus for he is destroyed physically and spiritually and is long gone. The only thing close to us seeing Zeus would be for Kratos to relive the torture of his memories or the illusions in Helheim. Also to answer people’s questions about Kratos not dying. Remember even after Kratos had his powers as the God of War taken, he still retained some divine traits such as immortality and self regeneration. Also Corey Barlog himself stated that Kratos can’t die and he is cursed to live forever for the sins he’s committed. It was confirmed that Kratos wandered the Earth and found himself in Norway. Also Kratos is not Tÿr. Please stop. Kratos is the the demigod son of Zeus and Callisto with his Titan grandparents Cronos and Rhea and Primordial great grandparents Gaea and Ouranaos. Tÿr is Odin’s son and is the Nordic God of War but was killed off by Odin. Spartan men were encouraged to marry once they turned 20, but could not live with their families until they left the active military at age 30 (if they had no wife by the age of 30, they were required to get married by law). Kratos is obviously active military when he calls on Ares, and he has a young daughter. Therefore, Kratos is roughly 27 when he makes his deal with Ares. So with the temple being 'asleep' for 150 years, the vase has been there for the same amount of time, possibly longer, So this is showing that Kratos is at the very least 150 years old.

I still say that it makes more sense for each of these pantheons to have their own worlds instead of being separated only by geography on the same planet. First, Does anyone believe that Odin wouldn't attack Olympus if he knew about them? Next, the fact that each pantheon has its own Underworld means that they have to be separated on different worlds, otherwise we would have seen some evidence of Greeks in Helheim thanks to Kratos killing Hades. Third, we know that the only way to travel between the nine realms is by bifrost or opening a portal. I'm just not buying the idea that the Aesir and Olympians were on the same planet yet never came into contact with one another, the Aesir only knew of the Vanir because Freyr traveled between realms. They almost immediately declared war with them afterwards, Odin would have definitely done the same with Olympus. I think the more sensible explanation is: Faye traveled in the realm between realms like Tyr and found Kratos in the Greek world. She discovers his identity and uses her magic to bring him to Midgard for her purpose of defeating the Aesir, possibly falling in love with him in the process. If anyone has a better explanation I would like to hear it.

Im pretty sure the way Kratos got to Midgard lies somewhere around Tyr. They mentioned several times that Tyr travelled a lot between distant worlds and they even found greek relics in Tyr's temple, including Kratos' favourite wine and even a drawing of him. So I am pretty sure Tyr was aware of Kratos' existence and went to fetch him. He even did not lack motives, having quite a few enemies on Asgard...

You should check out the theory where kraros is actually tyr. Cause of the way norse mythology is, it basically keeps repeating itself. Thats why the world serpent said atreus looked familiar. In the end you find out atreus is loki, and the world serpent is one of lokis kids. In ragnarock thor hit him so hard he sent him back in time (world serpent killed thor at the same time though). Thats also why the witch of the woods (forgot her name) said "nobody knows how the snake got there, he just appeared one day"

@KaptainKuba If you pay attention to the bird the entire time though, it almost seems like the bird is helping Kratos and Atreus leave Helheim, after the turn (when you get a close up to them bird and you start heading in the direction of Tyrs Temple (this actually happens twice), THE EAGLE IS FLAPPING HIS WINGS TOWARDS TYR's TEMPLE!!!!!!!!! This birds wings apparently cause the winds to blow, so if this bird is the giant transformed into an eagle and is A GIANT, he probably knows Atreus is a Giant too, so he was helping him leave Helheim. Another theory, if this version of the eagle is the transformed giant, and he plays a part in Ragnarok, maybe the bird knows about Atreus and how he is Loki, so in order for destiny to be fulfilled, he needed to help Atreus escape hell in order for Ragnarok to be fulfilled. I think there is even mention by Mimir that as long as the winds blow us towards Tyrs Temple we will get there. But overall, i think this theory is highly plausible and almost true. Please give me your thoughts.

Ok so the eagle Is the eagle that sits atop the world tree flapping its wings and creating the winds across all the nine realms. He is flapping his wings because he is exchanging insults with the Nidhogg and the base of the world tree through Ratatoskr. Historical the eagle is actually a nameless giant in the form of an eagle with a hawk sitting on its head named Veðrfölnir but the eagle is mostly commonly referred to as Hhraesvelgr. It is also said that the Eagle and the Nidhogg will fight eachother at Ragnarok.

It’s Hraesvelgr, if you actually watch closely when you’re riding the floating ship out of Helheim and get an up close look you can see him stretch and flap all 4 of his wings and Hraesvelgr is a giant (Jotunn) who takes the form of a giant eagle with 4 wings. For the people that think it’s one of the roosters, does that thing look like a damn chicken? Which leads me to think that a lot of people have never ever seen a chicken in real life before. Ah the very topic of conversation. A phoenixed eagle not attacking a child. The link between GOW 3 bird depiction in the rocks is very sounding. Very sounding and promising too. In the case of the eagle being a giant, I can see a reason for the cut of content. In the case of the eagle not being a giant but still the beast that brought Kratos back to life and to Midgard, a boss battle is still possible due to either a memory relived or time travel. Or an upcoming circumstance with triggers. One thing is for sure, Ragnarok will be about big things going down. Lots of love, war, betrayal and loyalty. We need more info on the mythology, and probable some more rune translations.

Actually it's a rooster, one of the three roosters whose crowing is foretold to signify the beginning of the events of Ragnarok. This one in Hel is unnamed, but the other two names are Gullinkambi and Fjalar i think.

All these comments saying this is stupid because the eagle is already explained in mythology keep forgetting one thing: In Greek Mythology, Pandora was made by Hepheastus at the request of Zeus to punish mortals for accepting stolen fire. The gods each blessed Pandora and sent her to the mortals so she could open the box and unleash evil everywhere along with hope. But in the game tho.... Plus Helios isn't an Olympian but he is in the game. And half the REAL Olympians are missing. Seriously, where's Demeter, Hestia, Apollo, Artemis, and Dyonisus? Good theory. But i think with the approach of not putting the big bird in the game was a good idea. If they added a big epic boss fight in the beginning then it would quickly lose its stigma. I think I know how Kratos survived. After the credits video of God of war 3, we saw a short clip that starts where Kratos killed himself but we didn't see Kratos' body anymore. There was only blood and the blade of Olympus. Then the camera follows the Kratos' blood to the edge of the mountain where it shows the chaos. The scene was like that Kratos stood up and throw himself in the sea. We know that Kratos killed Poseidon. If you remember, Poseidon was able to heal himself with touching the water and Percy Jackson(son or grandson of Poseidon) healed himself too(in Percy Jackson movie). When Kratos jumped into the sea his wound healed and that was how he survived after killing himself with the Blade of Olympus. You can find the clip on KZbin just search the clip after the credits of GOW 3.

I honestly never noticed that Kratos died on that eagle in GOW 3. Something that I DID notice though, was Kratos' lack of the new stomach scar from that death in GOW3. The scar that Kratos has on his stomach in the new GOW is identical to the one that Zeus gave him in GOW2. (Unless Kratos literally stabbed himself in the EXACT same spot Zeus did). I don't know if it's connected or not, it just seemed kinda weird to me since the designers always paid attention to scar detail and made sure to give Kratos proper battle damage as the series progressed. It just seems kinda out of place for them to just say "yeah just keep the same scar for no reason".
