This week on Upgrade My Stay we take on a cottage from the 50s!!! This cottage has been rented out for YEARS and loved by many. It already is super cute, but very lived in and really needs some love so that it can continue thriving. The owners of this cottage really didn’t give us any prompts or directions to go in so we thought we’d run with the fact that the cottage is from the 50s and right by a lake and create a retro beach house!! These rental spaces are always our favourite to renovate because we can really step out of our comfort zone and try something that we wouldn’t do elsewhere! Not gonna lie, loving the way it turned out and will probably let this aesthetic slip into my own home!! What kind of space will we take on next? Let us know your predictions below!

it's a lot of work to keep clean and dust free though. While I don’t mean to discredit the owners of these cabins, do a quick google search on how clean hotel rooms really are. I’m sure everyone would love to think that their hotel is spotless when you arrive for your holiday, it often isn’t the case, especially when it comes to kitchenware. Good of y’all to be optimistic about the “deep clean between guests” though.

😉 Don't think it will be an issue. These evergreens are commonly planted along fences and decks. They will create a natural barrier〰️ giving any visitors🫂 a much needed sense of privacy. 🌿They won't expand too much, but they will grow quite tall. They are more of a bush vs tree. 😎They're pretty hardy plants, drought-tolerant 💦, and fairly maintenance free. Actually, a fun tip I learned from one of my plant groups: apparently, if you dig a square hole for trees when you plant them, the gain height a little faster because the roots have more of the loose soil to spread into. :D

I really wish you had found frames to fit the photos. Those photos were so cool, but all the blank white spaces and the light frame colors distracted from them. I also wish that the color scheme was a little stronger-there were pastels mixed with deep red, brown, and beige, which I personally didn’t think felt cohesive enough. With that being said, I know it takes a ton of effort to finish these makeovers in just a couple days. It still came out well, and the owners loved it, which is what matters! Also, I LOVE that you guys use thrifted items!! It would be so easy to source things from Amazon and other big stores, but you guys go the extra mile to repurpose items, which I really appreciate!
