Lyrics:
tell me what you see
in the after life
par-delà le ciel
par-delà le soleil
in all there is to learn
the sun is on our side
and though you’re on the run
you will survive
expanded to the state of light
the deepest corners of the world
gliding through the lowlands
and swimming all the oceans
walking through the silence
already made it through the night
there will be a new day
whenever the sun rises
you’re invisible, you’re in everything
tell me what you see
when you’re everywhere
tell me now
while you drift away
from all the plagues of this world
you’re put out of misery, giant monster
you won’t have to face it again
every step of the way gets you higher
all the voices trapped underneath the ground
let them all go in the sky
find the power lost underneath the ground
let it all blow in the sky
all the voices trapped in my head
let them all scream in the night
find the power lost underneath the ground
let it all blow in the sky

Im 50 and been a metal head since I first heard Sabbath back in da 70's. I got my kids into the classics, and my kids get me into da newer stuff like Gojira, Mastodon, Messsugah, and Dillinger. I love them for it, but thats what family's do for each other. And my kids and I will rock out to Mastodon, Rush, Black Daliah, nwobhm bands, Death, Gojira, Neurosis, Electric Wizard, and what ever else.

It's awesome to see how they took their grieves about this tragic loss and made something very positive out of it. These two guys are amazing. Joe once said he had hard times thinking about singing some of the magma songs because of these personal things but when he does it's like Katharsis. You have to get it out and afterwards you kinda feel uplifted - and so it is, listening to this Music 😉

"Tell me what you see In the afterlife " The mother of Goijira's Joe and Mario Duplantier mother passed away after a year-long battle fighting cancer, during the recording of Magma. Their loss inspired the direction that Gojira take on the album and this song finds Joe Duplantier talking to his late mom directly. "We were so inspired by how incredibly brave she was before she passed, she understood that there was no hope left and she embraced it. She gave us what she had to give, she took care of her material things, her bank accounts, her rent, all those details, in an attempt to detach herself from all worldly possessions. It was a lesson, I had an example from my Mum on how to leave this world with grace and I'll have that forever, it's a gift that she gave to me and my brother and my sister. We have that in us and it's an incredible gift; I hope my own death will be as peaceful and beautiful as hers … we shall see." The song's music video was directed by Alain Duplantier, the cousin of Joe and Mario Duplantier. It includes shots inside an empty house. Joe Duplantier explained: "One of the 'characters' featured in this film is 'Gayeres,' the family house where Mario and I grew up. We jammed to our first songs, started Gojira, and recorded most of our albums there."

this album changed my life. I was in and out of foster care, parents in prison, struggling with coping with such a shitty childhood. I am a MASSIVE GOJIRA FAN and this album was life changing. It taught me to embrace what's part of my past and to let it all go because that's the only way to move on. to love, to learn, and to be something for this one life we get. So many were critical.of this album, but mario and joes mother passed away and they wrote this. people need to keep that in perspective. its such a beautiful, moving tribute to their late mother

Mario is a unique drummer he has to be one of the best in the world, out of all genres. He plays with incredible timing, technicality, speed, doesn't play at one speed constantly, is creative, and above all, plays with emotion. A unique blend of everything. It's hard to imagine what Gojira would sound like with a different drummer...

The song is amazing and the story about it is both sad and powerful. It is dedicated to Patricia Duplantier, Mario and Joe's mom. She passed away in 2015 and Joe wrote this song in her memory. The house was their and the fire has been a request from Patricia as a "funeral celebration", gathering friends and family. Mario Duplantier made an interview explaining it in a drum magazine (only in french sorry). Thank you Gojira for this song, I hope it helped you to recover.

It's amazing how many bands there are with vocals, 2 guitars, a bass, and a drum set, yet this band comes and creates something so unique, so fresh, so open, not just this song, the whole repertoire ... Gojira will go down in history as one of the Greats, as a band which established their own style and released albums with unmistakable identity. They totally own the scene and following their progress is pure enjoyment, just awesome. Hats off.

This is almost the most bare boned Gojira. ALot happened to them during the writing of this album. The band lost a band mate who was always there but wasn't present in everything they did. The DuPlantier's lost their mom over the past year----while working on Magma. As may or may not have been commented previously this video is about this loss. I saw this for the first time this morning on my way to work. I have been a Gojira freak since 2011 and one of the many things they live is integrity to one's emotional as well as physical lives. Emotional honesty is where I'm at now in my mid-40s. Its a necessity especially if you see your loved ones dying around you way too early. So, I am watching this on my device and listening on my car stereo. My car is warmed up, I just cant take my eyes off the cinematography. It is stellar. I realized at 2:50 I am caving internally. I have not cried since long before my MY mom died 3 years ago. I haven't dealt with it yet. I had to bury her and be the man so no emotions. Dad too is dead. So, at 4:00 I see the look on Joe's face and I recognize it as I have seen it on me many times. The water works started and I had no control. Snot bubbles, weird high pitched moans from god knows where in my gut. It started to come out and I was unable to worry about how I looked to the neighbor getting in her car, the kids walking by. My own sense of what is acceptable. I let go. Gojira has this affect. To all of you who fear losing your Metal flavor of the week, grow up and let their music has its way with you. These guys are for real.

So true! That's why I watch the video so often. The entire song is already fairly intense, but just seeing his face when he is screaming into the camera adds so much to it. That's him expressing the overwhelming sadness and that deeply rooted feeling in your gut when you are confronted with things that beat you down. Thanks for sharing! It's great to read others sharing my love for this music. It's something I can't seem to share with anyone in my circle of friends or family. The prejudice against this type of music is still miles high where I live and hardly anyone is prepared to meet it with open eyes and an open mind. Take care!

Tell me what you see, In the after-life Par-delà le ciel Par-delà le soleil In all there is to learn The sun is on our side And though you're on the run You will survive… Expanded to the state of light The deepest corners of the world Gliding through the lowlands And swimming all the oceans Walking through the silence Already made it through the night There will be a new day Whenever the sun rises You're invisible, you're in everything Tell me what you see Tell me you're everywhere Tell me now… While you drift away, From all the plagues of this world You're put out of misery, giant monster… You won't have to face it again Every step of the way gets you higher… All the voices trapped underneath the ground Let them all go in the sky! Find the power lost underneath the ground Let it all blow in the sky! All the voices trapped in my head Let them all scream in the night! These guys are so classy compared to pretty much every other metal band; they aren't covered in terrible tattoos, they don't wear embarrassing death metal shirts to try and earn scene cred, and they don't incorporate the latest trends into their music...they just keep evolving a sound that they pioneered themselves. It makes me happy to think the Duplantier brothers still have each other when going through one of the worst losses a family can suffer, and that they can turn that into incredible music to share with the world. Amazing cinematography and overall just a beautiful video.

This is arguably my favorite Gojira song, right here. What I love the most is the amount of tension building throughout the first half of the song that is taken to just the right level, then the gears shift at the halfway point, set it up...and then the BOMB DROPS and that tension is released and how. I *love* that! The depth and emotional resonance in this one is profound and the more you listen, the more you notice the layers in the vocals, with the well placed screams here and there underlining key parts of the lyrics. This makes me think of my late grandmother, who was the mother I never had in a variety of ways, and how I felt when she passed in 1992, and how I miss her to this day. Great work, Messrs., great work!

Sorry for your loss mate ❤️ I know how you feel really...today 4 years ago my grandpa passed away suddenly and I still sometimes miss him so bad...he was the only one in my family who really loved me for what I am without judging me or trying to change me...I really miss him a lot especially because my parents always judge me, for them I will never be the daughter they want and they don't miss a chance to remind me of that sadly

It's 5:30pm. I'm in the office alone, everyone else has gone home. I'm blasting this track and air drumming the shit out of my desk.
