A few weeks ago, we played Global Warming together for the first time since the recording of From Mars To Sirius (2004). We never played it live before, as it is a challenging one to play, and place in a set list. It’s emotionally heavy, and would almost “hurt” the rest of the songs in a way. We just really wanted to do this on camera for our fans. Global warming is a reality and a relevant topic, we feel it’s good to be reminded of one of the most important challenges of our time: How to grow as a species without being a parasite to our planet, the only home we have. “We will see our children growing” is a mantra for future generations, and in a figurative way we hope the children in all of us will grow, evolve, and take action for a more compassionate and meaningful world.
Global Warming, recorded at Silver Cord Studio NY, April 2018
Engineered and mixed by Johann Meyer
Filmed by Anne Deguehegny and Bunny
Edited by Anne Deguehegny and Mario Duplantier

This is absolutelly beautifull. It represents the secret of death metal. A lyrical art within a dark enshellement. A comunity stigmatised by a superficial appearance. We look wrong, with our black clothes, long hair, beards, chains and spikes, we make brutal death walls and moshpitts, we cast anger and fear. We are different, we are who we are, but we stand for these lyrics, we stand for such a poetrie amplified by these instrumentals. We stand for the reality of a performance by musicians facing a crowd of brothers and sisters. This music can make a crowd loud as an earthquake, or silent as a void. The point of experiencing the moment, the trance that is given to us.

I feel like people don't realise how talented a singer Joe is. It's crazy what he pulls off here. It's like he has several effects he can switch on and off in his voice, screaming with heavy distorsion and still maintaining notes (and producing overtones I guess?). Very impressive.

What I really like is how grounded this song feels compared to the others - the rest of the album is filled with metaphors (The Ocean Planet, the Flying Whales, the move From Mars to Sirius, etc.) but this song says it how it really is on our planet, beautiful ending that is both dark but also filled with hope: “we will see, our children growing”

It's hard to believe he's in his 40's. He just sounds as energetic as ever. He's not the most technically advanced vocalist, but that's probably for the better, because it leads to really emotional and soulful performances, as everyone pointed out already. And in the last years, that he got the clean vocals improved, he's just a boss at everything he does...
@massivecunt8263

Ο Επιστήμων he's actually one of the most technically advanced vocalist in music right now. His clean vocals are great but his growls and screams are from another world. He's using a very hard screaming technique so it can be powerful, sometimes brutal and yet melodic. It's one of the most unique voice in extreme metal. Only devin townsend is on the same level.

@@wayde5545 You unedited comment was "4000 years? Someone please explain. Are they Christians, or maybe scientologists?" To answer the question, as far as I know it's neither. I highly doubt they're scientologists, because it would've been shoved down our throats to join over & over again by now. As for being Christians? There are christians that don't go along with the normal Bible's creation story. Instead you have the Big Bang happening 13.8 billion years ago, the Earth was created 4.5 billion years ago. But the one who created the universe & everything in it was 'God'. As for the significance of 400,000 years, that would be that it is theorised that the Homo sapiens species (Us) diversified from our evolutionary ancestors & became our own species around this time. There's a lot of talk about "the missing link" between the ancient proto-humans & what eventually became us. We haven't found the remains of what links our theorised ancestral species & the species that eventually became us. This is something that deniers of the Theory of Evolution like the latch on to & insert conspiracy theories, religious explanations, or like in this example, suggest that there may have been outside interference by an intelligent species.

My hat's off to the bassist. It takes a high level of taste and restraint to play only simple things firmly, in the midst of virtuosi running incredible techniques; without trying to "compensate upward" to run with them. Rick Laird, from Mahavishnu Orchestra, was great at this; his patience and focus were truly profound. This gentleman here is very close to Laird's level. Well done.

To the band members of GOJIRA.. when I learned of you was soon after the death of my father.. Vacuity was the first song I heard after his passing on Pandora of all applications. After the first listen through I was hooked. I immediately opened KZbin and played it again about a million times. I’ve already been given a lack of information throughout my lifetime that blinded me. Thank you so much for opening my 3rd eye and saving my life. Since then I’ve bought most of your music and plan to have everything you guys make. You guys are amazing. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 THIS IS EXACTLY What the world needs right now. Sometimes another voice to think for someone else to learn from so others can take action rather than feel like they should speak up; the time for action is now. No one can tell me how 🥰 I’ve made it SO far.. nobody understands how and I don’t expect them to but everyone has their own meaning in life; mission, goal, the end result is what matters most and you’ll never understand until you allow that river to flow. I apologize for the series of puns but to everyone their own understanding of the flip side of life. I love you all. If you guys read this.. a name you should use for a future song is “nyarlethotep” or “god of 1000 faces”

I have been interested in climate change, global warming, and environmental issues (pollution, biodiversity...), since the end of the 90s. At that time, nobody among my relatives (family, friends) felt concerned by this. They considered me as an anxious teenager. When I discovered this band in 2005 (From Mars to Sirius album), I was totally amazed that a metal band (a French one, and a very talented one, moreover!) could write a song about global warming at the time. Almost 20 years later, I am a father of 2 children, and the lyrics of this song seem even more meaningful to me. I discovered then that many of Gojira songs talk about environment, future of our planet and humankind. Gojira is not only one of the best metal bands right now, but they were also pathfinders 20 years ago. PS : Please forgive my bad English, I am French, and my level in English is much weaker than Joe Duplantier ;)

You might like mastodon as well; their drummer is very technically talented and not in a “I’m playing this way because I can” sort of way, if that makes sense
