awesome videos! im going to order some gold leaf to give a go.. its also got me wondering what it would look like if was sprinkling micha powders over the dragon scale while its spinning and using a hand full of different metalic micha

Thanks for watching...please like and subscribe! So...I think the powders are fascinating and potentially a brilliant idea. I have not tried it yet, but I bought both some holographic nail powders and some gold leaf flakes in VERY different colors than the sheets come in and have been wanting/meaning to try it. Lack of time and fear of a huge mess have been the limiting factors...but I hope to get to it. If you try it please let us know what you learn and how it turns out. Definitely an interesting avenue of exploration for sure!

The color preserver beads up because it is water based and the gold leaf can't absorb it. The same thing happens when you try to put it on metallic thread. As it starts to get tacky, then it can stick to metallic surfaces 👍 This gold leaf dragon scale is a new technique to me, never seen it before. I think it looks fantastic! I'm going to post a link to your first video in the series on my channel. I have a decent sized small KZbin channel and hopefully it will help steer some subscribers your way. You do a good job describing what you are doing and shooting good footage and I think your channel will do well as you go along. I do some rod building on my channel as well, I think some of my viewers may be interested in checking yours out if they haven't seen it. Just for a little feedback, the first video in this series showed up in my recommended videos so KZbin is pushing your stuff to others which is a good sign! Keep up the good work!!!

Hi there, what is the purpose of the CP between the leaf metal and the FLEXCOAT-paint?
@masteringrodbuilding2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching...please like and subscribe! The purpose of the CP is to seal the gold leaf so finish doesn't wick under it and lift it. As I say in the video I'm not sure it's entirely necessary - you can try it without if you prefer. Hope this helps...good luck!

@@masteringrodbuilding Thank you for the answer! I tried it last week without any problems on a test piece without CP, I don't know how it will behave in the long run. next attempt with cp. thank you for the inspiration!

Hi, I've been following you for a while, you're great. Recently I made a support so I can custom rods. Where do you get that thin foil?

Nice job bro, much appreciated for showing us how to do this technique. I'm about to build my first rod and been looking at different style thread wrap art with techniques like you showed here. Have you ever used the abalone veneer before?
@masteringrodbuilding4 жыл бұрын
Fish Talk thanks for watching! Yes - I use abalone veneer. I personally really like the look. I also will do minimal cross wraps over the abalone.

Where do you get your decals? I’m having difficulty finding someone to do them for me locally. Thanks much!

I have been using Chuck and Debbie at Decal Connection for at least 15 years. Great product, fair price, and great service. They understand the custom rod builder market. PM me if you can't find them via google search. Thanks for watching!

Falconer Custom Rods Thank you!
@margaretbarcenas17254 жыл бұрын
Falconer-every gold leaf is separated by a tissue, if you measure the rod around and slip a piece of cardboard under the gold leaf with a tissue on top-you can use a razor blade and cut the down the length. Then with the tissue side on your hands, place the gold leaf over the glued area on the rod-cleaner, easier

First off thanks for the tutorial your dragon scales are on point! Have you tried yet going straight to epoxy without the color preserver yet?

Thanks for watching and for the feedback! I have since skipped CP...truthfully I can’t tell much difference. You just have to be really careful that you get complete coverage and it doesn’t fish eye or bead up. But I have heard from some folks who say that their gold leaf darkens or changes color a bit when they skip the CP. So experiment on some scrap first. Hope this helps...good luck!
