PART 1: • HOW TO PLAY SCRATCH GO...
Scratch golf is very different to what you think.
How can I shoot 76 and be classified as a scratch round? That's indeed confusing and why my handicap is probably lower than the 5 I estimate it to be. There are a lot of people who will immediately say someone is not a certain handicap because of one or two rounds.
But that's where the Handicap system needs to be explained.

A lot of playas will get this WRONG. Scratch golf is NOT shooting level par on the scorecard every time. Handicap systems work differently to what you think scratch golf is.
The handicap system works out your handicap over 20 scores, and only counts your best 8 scores. So if you play the same course over and over and over again, your score should trend downwards anyway.
And on top of that, the course rating is often much higher than 72. Some courses have a stroke rating of 73, 74 or 75. That means if you score 76 EIGHT TIMES out of TWENTY scores, you will be a scratch handicap.
Your scores can be 8 x76 and 12 x 99 - yes you can shoot 99 TWELVE TIMES and still be a scratch handicap because they took your 8 best scores of 76 76 76 76 76 76 76 76 and ignored the rest.
That means on this course, rated 74.9 and a slope of 131, if I shoot 75-76 eight times and score between 77 and 90 for the remaining 12, my handicap would be scratch! So while these two videos may not add up to 72, thats NOT SCRATCH GOLF!
That's actually PLUS HANDICAP golf!!!! Please keep this in mind when you talk about others handicap.
Whenever you see someone play one or two rounds on KZbin or in person and they do not shoot to their handicap, remember their handicap is from their best 40% of their scores. And remember, if you shoot your handicap every round, you would be a pro within 6 months because it would keep dropping week after week. AND ONE MORE THING!!
Remember when you talk to other people about someone not being a certain handicap they told you they were, EVERYONE ELSE IS TALKING ABOUT YOU THE SAME WAY! LOLOLOL

That's golf playa much like life. Analysis by paralysis in real life leads to no action, and then dealing with that consequence. Make a decision, commit, then deal with it - nothing is so bad that it will destroy us. If you are making a decision that destroys you, then it probably was a bad decision earlier on and it's too far gone! That's a quadruple bogey in life

I'm from Vancouver in British Columbia, Canada. I played a private course today and on the 5th tee box from the tips I see someone has planted a feather right next to the marker. I explained what this meant to my friend and then I smashed driver, was on in two and drained the putt. So you see Playas, you have to plant feathers to grow birdies for your fellow golfers as well, and hopefully if enough feathers get planted, you will find one that will grow birdies for you.

Yes, I definitely play solo rounds. Especially love it when I'm the first tee time in the morning and nobody is ahead of me. I can play at my own pace, get in a rhythm that isn't dictated by the people I'm with or the groups around me, hit extra shots whenever I want to work on the game, and I'll play in well under 3 hours. I also find it super relaxing to be out there by myself and like being done before the hottest part of the day.

That is EXACTLY how I am currently playing most of my Golf and it is both relaxing and helps me think better about all of my Shots. You start thinking about them long before you get to them as opposed to chatting to a colleague and only when you arrive at your ball do you start to think about how you are going to hit it.

I never had the confidence to play solo before but you taught me Zero F given and so this year (January) I started solo rounds to practice what I had been trying on the range. Real play with real fairways and tricky lays has helped develop my game. WOTP philosophy has enable me to enjoy my golf and I am on the cusp of breaking 100 (34 handicap last year down to around 28/29 this year). I walk around the course talking to myself but with your voice saying waddashot, waddaplaya or that’s your birthday hole etc I always analyse the course before I go to it, have a plan to attack the par 3’s or short par 4’s and taking ego golf out of play and use the club I’m comfortable with and taking two shots well. Nice video Matt, loving it. In Germany we will be changing from our "old" handicap system to the World Handicap Index next year. We are expecting to drop around 2-3 shots each as a result of how it is calculated - which is exactly as you describe above. In our current rules it also actually states that the handicap shows the potential of a player, ie on an average difficult course in good weather etc, playing a GOOD round. So we're not supposed to play our handicap every time we go out. Personally I try to remember that it's just a number. On that note, got to go out practising to get to scratch! Haha, thumbs up to the Playa-in-Chief! PS: Starting to see planted feathers on my golf course recently, the movement is spreading!

I like playing with my buddies but a solo round is a way to have peace and relaxation. You can enjoy the course, the trees the quiet. Your game improves as you concentrate and get into a zone especially if you walk. You contemplate strategy, club selection pick your safe areas and also choose which pins to attack. If you have never walked a round just by yourself you must try it, totally different game.

love the breakthrough with the wedges. Watched tiger and his dad do a swing clinic on youtube and he said to never hit full bore wedges, and I think that guys wedge shots are pretty decent. Incorporating this from now on playa

Wadda video! I am returning to golf thanks to them and your stress-free approach. In fact, I am at the middle of an equipment crossroads: for a high handicapper, which driver would you go for: Cobra F9 or Ping G400 Max? Cheers!

I use solo rounds as a big confidence boost. If I hit a bad shot I evaluate it, and play a second ball just to show myself I was capable of hitting the desired shot. I play my original miss, but just to prove to myself I can hit the shots I am thinking of I play a second ball several times a round.

Tough time finding the fairway today (but still only +4:)) Which is good for people like me who appreciate your tips to hitting awkward lies. I also appreciate your approach to life tips as well.

Love the part about life, death bed, and golf. Keep at it. Hope to see you and play with you one day. I try to goto Vietnam once a year, and play a couple of rounds there. Maybe one year I'll swing by Malaysia and play golf there too!

Solo rounds are where it is only you. Your thoughts are all truly your own. These will be the same thoughts multiplied because in round with others there are more distractions like conversation and other playa’s shots. I love solo rounds and playing solo with others as you can really be whoever you want to be at the course!

I find when I play solo rounds the pace of play works best for me, no waiting around getting cold or losing concentration, I only have one ball to focus on and one goal on mind to outplay myself and not another player. I love playing with people but on the odd days where I just need peace and quiet a solo game is just what the doctor ordered. Keep up the good work, loving the videos 👍👍👍

I play at first light 2-3 times a week back 9 walking. my friends are lazy and sleep in!! LOL i enjoy being by myself its my mind clearing activity and i can concentrate much better than with buddies chatting me up and talking about work and wives etc... i reserve those rounds with Broskies for nice courses 18 holes and when i know it will take a while to play then grab lunch etc. I am not anti-social, quite opposite. just like the feeling of being out there by myself and figuring my game out... PS since i have been watching you and other you tubers my handicap dropped from a 16/18 to a 7.8...over the last 2 years...love the channel. need more break 80 or par videos

You get to clear your mind, relax and have a nice walk. Also there’s more chance to practice if the course isn’t packed.

I play solo more than I do with friends - I'm out to have time to think, enjoy the sounds of birds, the breeze and the sunshine. Makes me a better player for when I do hit the links with buddies.

came to this video so late, i doubt Feather of The Golden Eagle divot tool is still a giveaway. Anyway, I do play solo golf, usually at Unico Grande or Bangna Navy Course when in BKK and IOI Palm Villa in Johor. Its great to play 2 balls in certain spots, like first cut rough and fairway, to see the difference in results. Or experiment a punch vs full shot from the same spot. Playing solo takes away a lot of pressure and helps me calm down the next time i play with friends or under pressure. Great video again Matt and hope to bump into you in future.

I play solo most of the time. I work 12 hr shifts. 2 weeks of days 2 weeks of midnights. It equates to 6 months a year so I have a ton of time off but when most of my friends are working. I walk most of the time. Just started playing last year and knocking on 90s door. Last 2 rounds were 92 and 94. Trying to be Waddaplaya! Love the tips and advice brother. Appreciate the videos.
