. In the second and final round at Clarens, I play Way of the Playa style golf vs Aggressive Golf. I hit my driver as often as possible with one ball and then with the other ball, I hit an iron off the tee, just hitting comfy shots from the tee to get the ball in play.

In this episode, we see whether there is anything special about the Way of the Playa idea of always hitting comfy shots and laying up a lot, or if it's nothing special at all. Is hitting the ball further off the tee special in any way? Is it better to be closer to the green at all times?
I don't really care which way it comes out. I will continue to play the best shots I can possibly play standing over the ball at any one time.
But perhaps there are some ideas in this video that show you that you can play the game the way you want to and be successful in both your intentions and your score.
In the end, we have to decide if we want to play golf for fun, or for serious. If we want to be serious about the game and go to scratch and beyond, we need to really focus on all our skills and getting the ball close to the green an then being a lethal short game player.
If we want to have fun, you can do it in multitudes of ways. Never feel pressured to play ONE way. you're a baus and you can pick the way you want to play. Mazimize YOUR capabilities, play to YOUR best shots. Be the best playa you can be.

So many ads....Hope this isnt part of the channel now
@GolfSidekick
@GolfSidekick 4 жыл бұрын
There are numerous ways to monetize a channel to pay for the production of the videos. Some more intrusive than others, some more "salesy" than others and some more painful than others. A 5 second skippable ad is hardly too much to ask for when television puts shows that are 25 minutes on the air with 30 minutes of ads broken up in between. Every thing about the videos has a cost - money and time. These videos are also free to consume, or NOT consume. Someone to do skeleton editing is $40 a video. Voice over is $20-$40 per video Golf is between $20 and $100 My time spent on each video is around 15 hours excluding actually filming it. My time is valuable but I produce the video so it might have the effect of changing someone's game or gives them a new perspective to enjoy golf again. Let's just say my time is minimum wage $10 an hour - that's $150 of labor on it that I could be doing something else. Total so far is on average about $300 per video. And it's all FREE to consume here without me begging for likes, shares, subscribes every 2 minutes, or pushing someone's product or company onto you begging you to click the link. I've been approached by many companies looking to get involved but declined all. Free information in exchange for a bit of ad revenue. When i see a dog turd in the road, I step over it, I don't step in it on purpose.

At first, it takes discipline to pull out your safe club when your playing partners are pulling out their bombs-away clubs, but as the round progresses I here them asking things like, "wait did you par that hole?" or "is that another par?". Side benefit - if you plan your way down each fairway, you'll find yourself not even thinking about your swing. Golf sidekick has really shown me stress free golf.

Great content man, you´ve helped me from shooting 87-92 to hitting low 80´s with your philosophy on how the game should be played. Now I just have to break the 80, usually when I do best is when I'm not focused on the score but having fun. But the mental barrier of breaking the 80 itself always gets through me dropping my game at the end. Tried your methods of breaking 80 but it´s still quite a challenge. All things aside.. Congrats and keep it up!

At my age, my long game is the conservative way. There's usually only the two of us anyway. Old man Par and myself. OMP, not to be confused with Old Man Pat (although they are quite similar), is always ready to play a round, will give me credit for a par or birdie, never laugh at a bogie and ribs the heck out of me for a double. But, to the point. Your videos are, as always, informative and entertaining. Thank you.

From “Play YOUR favorite shots” to “I’ve nutted that 4-iron brilliantly” to “we’re going to the Boom-Room; the Boom-Boom Room.” But beyond the entertainment, there are brush strokes of WOTP philosophy that continues to help my game and my love of it. Good video, and great subject. I've gone back and forth on this a number of times. I think I've found for myself that I play a little better hitting driver on most every tee. I'm not a big hitter, but I hit straight. It's easier to hit fairway at 250 than it is at 300. I can also mishit any club off the tee. My biggest miss is a thin shot. I'n that case, I'm better off with a thinned driver than a thinned iron where now I probably won't be able to reach the green. That's just me though. I play with a lot of guys that would do well to leave their driver at home, and only bring it to the range. When it comes to forced carrys however, then I have to make the tough risk/reward decisions. Your adage "trouble short, go long. Trouble long, go short" works out well.

Love the content my friend. One note on this video. 2nd shot for TeamAggro on the par 5th 6th hole - Strokes Gained / Every Shot Counts / Lowest Score Wins would ALL suggest a layup in this situation. You're trying to hit a shot that you (or at least most of us) can't reliably hit so you should layup because the advantage of bombing it doesn't fill the disadvantage of having to break out a new ball.

I really like this video! It is a lot more fun to play conservative golf and not lose many balls when playing a new course you do not know the layout well I play more agreessive most rounds and have noticed that my scores for each hole differ and when I play more conservative I will have more consistency in my scoring but maybe not an eagle or as many birdies as I would have a better chance if I played more agreesive

I’d suggest this kind of play for beginners too. Play 2 balls 2 different shots. Especially off the tee. Quickest way to start getting decent. Instead of oh I hit one bad driver let me tee another driver id take 2 clubs and hit one driver one wood or iron. If you use one club and play 2 balls play alternate shapes one fade one draw. I used to do this and play best ball off the tee and play 2 from that spot and play a fade and draw then play 2 from that spot. If I played 18 I’d keep score from front 9 then on the back I had to try play one ball and beat that score

I played in a company comp against a colleague who plays off 6 in autumn, it was blowing a gale with heavy rain, the match was called off after the front 9 cos conditions were so bad. He played conservative, kept the ball in play, up and down every time, won the comp. I´m a good 20-30 yards longer off the tee, in the rough, hacking out, losing shots. His game looks boring but works. I´ll try to remember the way of the playa in SA next week, esp at Pinnacle Point; way too much potential to lose balls into the ocean there.

I can't comprehend the difference in our irons.. I take my 54 degree 50-60yards, front of stance maybe 70-80. My 7 hits 140-150. I'm consistently 30yards behind most people I play with and it leads to me putting more power behind my swing that leads to less accuracy. For now I play conservative golf with an 18handicap.. just feel lost because without that extra yardage I feel really stuck in my game.

There isn't really a 'better' way to play. It all depends on circumstances and goals. If you are in match play there will be times where you have to do an incredibly stupid low % chance shot to have any hope of halving the hole, But there will also be some situations where playing overly conservative will also be the better option. (One that comes to mind is that I intentionally 3-putted to win a hole once). It all depends on context and how you want to balance expected value vs best case scenario.

I like when he says "My current stress level is hovering around................zero". I also like how he calls him Jack Nicholson instead of Niklaus. You want the truth???You can't handle the truth, playa!!
