I like hot curries and often buy these Aldi ones. The Vindaloo and Jalfrezi are my favourites and sometimes I add mushrooms and a squeeze of Carolina Reaper sauce to juice them up a bit. I recently bought the Waitrose Jalfrezi with rice and at £3.90 it was comparable or maybe not quite as tasty as the Aldi meal. Somehow Aldi are really getting the flavours right with a lot of their foods, compared to their early days of seeming cheap and inferior.

I never understand why food shops label their curries as being stronger than they are in reality. Why don't they just label them accurately? Then the people that want a weaker curry can have one labelled as such and the ones that want a stronger one get what they paid for!

Because it is impossible to predict how chili heat will affect a person; one person may find it quite tame, while another will find it unbearable.

Like the Indian ones in Aldi. Mostly Gluten free which is a bonus and not crazy prices.

Hi Gareth, I have the vindaloo ALDI curry with a narn, & a side dish of taka dhal ( dhal from Sainsbury) not half bad & enough with the extra sides £2.49 absolute bargin like most ALDI stuff👍

I worked in India on & off for 2 years & managed to eat some of the worst curries I’ve ever had, the best I’ve had is in Puerto del carmen a restaurant called Mumbai next to the beach, if ur ever in Lanzarote go there, it’s fantastic !!👍

You could've squeezed the seeds out of the cardammon pod before rejecting it !! Also, if on budget the Frozen Tikka Masala is only £1.49 (all made in the same Irish Food Factory) Aldi have these 'Spot on' for us single folk , lol

These curries from Aldi are fantastic value for money and really tasty. Had the Jalfrezi last night 😋 Saw the Vindaloo and on your recommendation will try that next. BTW, yes it was a clove that you had in there, last nights had a cardamom pod in, sometimes you get both! Great review as always.👍

A really good deal from Aldi. I enjoyed their chicken korma when staying with friends several years ago. I forget the exact price then; I do recall it was very good value. £2.49 certainly is! We did the same as you for a naan substitute, Gareth: open loaf of sliced bread in the middle of the table.😋😊

These are a bangin’ curry. They’ve got a good kick to them but don’t blow your socks off! Make my nose run a bit mind you. Tasty as well. A regular purchase when I go Aldi

Ooh thank you for this positive review. Husband likes curry, hot spicy curry. He was in the Merchant Navy and chefs and kitchen staff were usually Indian. They would cook known stuff for the crew but for themselves they would put stuff together and spicier for myself. If the seamen got to know them, they would share their food. Husband would cook the stuff at home after he left the MN.... I couldn't eat it,... If its stronger than a tikka I hiccup from the first taste!!!! So now if we are doing curry, it's a ping one or if we are feeling 'flush' we have a takeaway from our favourite place.... So Thank you again.

Not all the Aldi repackaged ready meals have maintained there quality. I used to love their Spaghetti Carbonara and Chicken and Pasta bake, the sauce was really flavoursome. The new version isn't nearly so tasty. Similarly they had the best Chicken Tikka masala of all the supermarkets, it also has changed and not for the better.

Hey Gareth👍that looked pretty good and especially for £2.49, I thought they might have pumped that up to 3 quid. That dark thing in your rice looked like star anise mate to me anyway which is optional in pilau rice apparently. Cheers buddy✌️

Asda used to do a frozen chicken vindaloo, it was called Hungry Joes , it was hot and gorgeous, i used to buy two of them as a main meal, i cant remember how much money they cost but they were cheap, they don't do it anymore, i look everytime im in my local Asda to no avail.

I like a good where's the loo curry on a Saturday night with thick cut chips. I will have to try these from Aldi, not a bad price either £2.49. Have you tried Morrisons steak and ale with cheesy mash ding meal? 400g, £3.75 each but they are on offer now 2 for 6 quid. They are really tasty and plenty of steak in them and slippage juice 😁

Iceland have brought back the festive pie £3 for two (400gm), might be worth look. Lot of salt in this one. I do like the Iceland vindaloo as I can add a tin of Branston beans to any left over sauce and make 2-4-1. The cardamom pods are common and the odd clove.

Looked tasty,what there was of it.I notice alot of stuff for,as you put it,"the general public" defaults to sweet and tomatoey.I watched the "Jolly" boys in New Orleans and they wondered why a dish wasn't"more tomatoey".It was because the original recipe was used,not what they were thinking of.

Used to eat these every other day. Noticed aldi dropped the grams by 50 and put price up so i stopped. I buy a pack of chicken breast slices 1.99 and a jar of curry sauce 99p Pilau rice 38p And a cheap loaf of bread to mop it up with 39p Sorted

You should try some Shana Parathas. They are available in Sainsburys, in the frozen section, although you might have to look for them. I always have one or two with my supermarket curries. Just bung em in a dry flying pan for a couple of minutes each side until they puff up, bloody lovely especially with a hot curry as they are a bit sweet. Just not sure if they are available in all Sainsburys though. You get a pack of 15 for £3.95. Bargain. Also use them for large homemade prawn purees. Now I'm hungry.....Lol

The shana paratha's are avaliable at Iceland..they are in a massive bag of 20 in Iceland 3 for 10 offers x I think they have tham in some asdas as well in the frozen section. They are lush ❤

I always cut the chicken pieces in half as most of them are a touch too big (for me anyhow) and like someone else mentioned adding a large chopped mushroom increases the portion size. I'd agree with your score of 9/10 as Iv'e never had a bad curry readymeal whether it be Korma, Madras, Jalfrezi or Vindaloo, theyr'e all good.

gotta say, the original goan vindaloo that the british vindaloo is derived from is mild, british people have taken the mick out of the original recipe, so technically a mild vindaloo is closer to the original vindaloo recipe than the hot ones UK has come up with

Yeh, cardamon & cloves being used is common, saved a video here on you tube with a genuine recipe for this or similar rice dish....love rice because my tummy digests it without IBS reaction...so I bought rice noodles as well...will try them...

I never do the peel back and stir thing. If it says 2.5 mins then stir, then 2.5 mins, I just do 5 mins. I can't be arsed to stir it all and mess about.

I had one the other day. I was pleasantly surprised. It's far from a great curry, but for £2.50 its a decent dinner time bit of snap. Has a slight 'kick' to it, but nothing more. Rice tasty too.

Asda sell a similar range but charge £3 each and they taste better. I have tried both Asda and Aldi versions. OR you can buy 3 ready meals at Asda for £7.50 so brings the price inline with Aldi.

I wish they'd just do the curry sauce to the same standard - the rice is easy to make - if they dropped them £2 for that theyd be very handy - Farmfoods used to do this but now have discontinued the range of stand alone curries
