@@kennethd4958He’s well known, but at the same time, he’s not nearly as talked about as other people like Tom Cruise, or DiCaprio. Even his friend Ben Affleck got to be Batman. The best Matt Damon gets talked about is maybe Jason about e once in awhile, but other than that, I think I hear “Met Dehmen”, more than “This is Jason Bourne”. He’s only so high profile these days. After Good Will Hunting, the most attention might actually be just The Martian, and again that’s just a huge maybe.

I think about this movie so frequently, every monologue the way Sean and Will bond, the fact that he FINALLY listens when he realizes the Ben Affleck character talks some sense into him about the opportunity he's been wasting away on. Everything just speaks to me and I can't believe that Matt and Ben wrote this as one of their firsts and although the screenplay alone was gold, the actors with Robin and Matt are what make it fully workl

What is amazing about this film is how much they get right regarding mental health. The self destructive tendencies for people who have trauma and how they self sabotage without realizing it. It is just an amazing bit of film and everything that robin's charcter does (besides ya know choking will out) is textbook good therapy techniques.
@DementisXYZ14 күн бұрын
Especially for '97. Let's face it, the 90s were still very much a time of not taking mental health seriously, so seeing a major film from that era tackle it with such sincerity AND accuracy is a genuinely momentous occasion.

Another film that has no business being a Disney property, but welcome to America. Where you have more choices on a McDonalds menu than you do anywhere else. Now that streaming services and other big corporations are buying up everything, there's no character to anything anymore. In the 90s, Good Will Hunting and Pulp Fiction would have been mocked endlessly and never taken seriously if they were originally owned by Disney. By the late 90s, Disney wasn't even family entertainment. It was for little kids, so the effort wasn't there. Good Will Hunting is R-rated, so I'm surprised it's not part of Disney's subsidiary, Touchstone Pictures.

Regarding Williams' Oscar win for this film, I'm blanking on what critic said this, but they said that while Williams' Oscar was deserved, it was still kind of insulting to Williams that he won an Oscar for THIS film, and not any of his comedic roles. It basically told Williams (and comedians in general) that theyll only ever be taken seriously if they do serious roles. Also Burt Reynolds (who was also nominated in the same category that year) thought it was unfair that Williams won because he's a comedian.
