The car looks really stunning after Topaz have worked their magic on it. This era of VW styling was really their best; simple elegant designs that looked good. Some may call them boring but at least its miles better than the designs they're putting out nowadays with the new Passat and Tiguan. Great video and good luck with the auction!

@@bricksbeersbeards9368 B5.5 had better proportions I agree. That’s because the 2004-2005 era Passat was based on the Audi A4 platform with a longitudinal engine, whereas these more modern Passats are based on the Golf platform.

@@Swiss4.2 Had a 2004 until someone totaled it in Jan '24, was the original owner, low mileage, good shape, find myself really missing that car. Had the 1.8T engine, various other parts under the hood were shared with Audi, so many memories in that car

Those Passats have a special place in my heart, particularly the diesel wagons, which were just fantastic touring cars with exceptional range. I frequently drove one from the Gold Coast to Cairns once a month in Australia, which was a 4,000km return journey. The damn thing averaged around 1300km on a tank!!! Marvellous torque, heaps of space and very comfortable. VW never did better. Immense respect for those things.

The Africa to London video was amazing. I won't lie I was a bit jealous of you and Patrick because I have a dream of doing an endurance roadtrip myself of about 1000+ kilometres. The video ignited that spark even more. I don't have a car yet but I know I'll tick that off my bucket list one day. I'll definitely film it too 😄

What a transformation from Topaz! As you point out perhaps you’d have got a few extra miles out of it had you had it detailed first? I was fortunate enough to hear from a WW2 spitfire pilot, he advised he wanted their plane as polished as much as possible to eek a few extra mph as every bit helped in the fight!! And what a way to end a great story! And for a great charity!!

What a fantastic car ,just a shame our wonderful London mayor thinks it's only fit for the scrap yard ,when it was the last labour government that intensives us all to buy diesel ⛽️. Joe, massive thanks for the Passat series. So down to earth, enjoyable to watch and quite surprising in general about trip you and Patrick made and the outcome of the detailing. The Cashmere is a good colour for showing the dirt. At least I thought that until I saw the after pictures. My bucket and sponge followed by waterless spray cleaner pales by comparison.

People should realise with lacquer finish on a car, it still needs a polish to get rid of traffic grim etc, they all look so much better after a wax, try it, not rocket science.
