In this video I test an external mic (Edutige ETM-001) vs the internal mic, both with a windscreen and without.

External Mic is way better, picks up all the good trail noise that makes it seem like a bike ride. The GoPro with wind screen doesn't pick up good trail noise.

I agree. The voice is clearer and the ambient noise of the trail adds to the feel of the ride. If you get rid of the ambient noise on a ride, might as well just dub it in post.

I'm a year late to the party. What I've found to work for both my cycling and motorcycle is the use of a wrist sweat band. Oddly enough they fit snuggly around a GoPro and are very resilient and cut wind like a champ. Simply cut some holes in the bottom of the band for the mount feet and vola, job done. Plus they're around $8 for two.

Russ from Path Less Pedaled went through his setup using these- he attaches the adapter block to the top of the case and it seems to work really well.

This may just be me so grain of salt...The shaking footage is very distracting BUT when you have the external mic hooked up it makes me notice it much less. Weird. GoPro and their stupid giant adapter. I'm waiting to buy another camera for now. I want to see if they release a new Hero 8 with a better option (crosses fingers). I have been using a gimbal with the foam windscreen lately. Royal pain to get into the gimbal but with a Hero 5 black, I had to do something!! Thanks for doing this. Good video.

The shakiness was worse that day because the lighting was lower. Hypersmooth falls apart when the lighting drops.

I’d spray the rubber bands black so they don’t cheapen the look and blend in. When using a gimbal attach a stick on windjammer over the mic, or rather than a sock, before I bought Royston windjammers I cut a section of fur from an old plush toy 🧸 and cut out some sticky Velcro cutting away the centre so only the plush toy fur was covering the built in mic on the GoPro. Great 👍🏼 review as always Clint.

There is a 3rd party case on Amazon that has a place to put the gopro audio adapter in. Makes for a much more clean setup that won’t block the record button

Vertical shock vs horizontal shock: pros and cons, (i.e. does one climb better than the other...etc) 2. Hub engagement points, more vs less: pros and cons 3. Spoke count 28 front 32 rear or the same for both. Straight pull vs J bend

Still battling getting decent audio... I'm currently rocking the gimbal with the foam wind block and that has it's own issues... BTW, I do use the foam windscreen (third party) and just scrunch it all up inside the gimbal bracket (EVO SS). If you check my last video, I'm running that combo for my trail shots. Im looking for a good quality external mic for my gopro hero 7 black. However i dont want a shotgun mic or mic close to the gopro itself. I want to be able to put my gopro on the front of my car and have the mic (with long wire ofcourse) at the rear of my car for the exhaust notes. Do you have any recommendations for me? I see a couple 6 to 8 bucks mics like that, but id rather pay more for a quality mic

2:33 wrong setup detected 😅 To minimise bouncing try to mont the buckle upside down so that camera will be more centred in relation to chesty.

If I mount the GoPro right side up on the chesty, I cannot angle it enough. It points down too much when I’m leaning forward on a bike.

It's always interesting to see other people's experience with the GoPro audio. They've got such an aggressive tune on that thing trying to push past the waterproofing. What gimbal do you plan on testing the 7 with?
@ClintGibbs
@ClintGibbs 5 жыл бұрын
Karma grip with extension cable kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXuolJZjjtposLM
@TrailFeatures
@TrailFeatures 5 жыл бұрын
@@ClintGibbs You're not going to get very good results, sadly. When it's connected to the Karma, an EQ mix gets loaded up on the GoPro that filters out the motor noise. GoPro decided to use this as a workaround to the fact the mics have to be boosted to hear past the waterproof membranes. 😟
@simacmarko1
@simacmarko1 5 жыл бұрын
I hope you ll use gimbal of some kind. Coz it s way to bumpy and shakey using just hero 7 . And i think karma grip will definetly mess up everything like it did to bkxc . Anyhow, The hero 7 and external mic is for the win coz it picks up great trail amd bike noise and your voice is the clearest.
@CooperSellers
@CooperSellers 5 жыл бұрын
With my EVO SS, I'll get gimbal motor noise pretty bad in the left mic, so what I've been doing is muting the left channel and duplicating the right to provide stereo. You can still get a faint hum of the gimbal, but not as bad.

sounds so much better with the wind Gives the video more of a natural and realistic feeling If you watch the weather channel you will hear the $10,000 mic and wind screen still picking up the wind And that's because they want you to feel the weather in the video If you cut out the wind then the video feels fake and emotionaless People need to stop making everything feel and look fake and emotionaless and get back to basics of the natural sounding era of the 60's - 80's (No AI) Regards, rick

Not sure why you need the 90 degree adapter with an Omni directional mic? Also that adapter is trrs and the mic is trs. Does that let the mic work with iPhone using the lightning to 3.5mm adapter?
@ClintGibbs
@ClintGibbs 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, lately I’ve been using the mic without the adapter and it seems to work fine. This is a TRS mic which will not work in a phone. You need a TRRS mic for a phone.
@AlexGower
@AlexGower 5 жыл бұрын
Right but the 90 degree adapter you’re using is a trrs? So does that convert the mic from trs to trrs properly like the rode adapter?
@ClintGibbs
@ClintGibbs 5 жыл бұрын
Alex Gower I have not tried the adapter with a TRRS Mike. But I don’t think it would because I can use this mic directly on the go Pro adapter or through the 90° adapter. But I may try a trrs mic in the next few days
@AlexGower
@AlexGower 5 жыл бұрын
Clint Gibbs okay so basically you are saying it must not convert it from Trs to trrs because it works properly in the GoPro adapter. Thanks! My goal is to get this mic and be able to use it for GoPro and my phone so I will probably get the mic and then the rode adapter cable for trs to trrs and then use the iPhone lightning adapter.
