I was listening to a podcast that said, “it’s important to live life by design rather than emotion. Basically, sticking to a routine is what allows us to be the healthiest version of ourselves (especially when you're fighting these demons ex. OCD for me). In my journey - I’ve had to overhaul how I approach work/habits by practising mediocre consistency. Now I try to put in consistent 50-60% effort into my habits (ex. journaling/working out) - to make sure I do it I began recording it and posting it on my youtube channel. Because historically I have a habit of going too hard, not being able to sustain the Herculean effort, giving up and hating myself. So now I’m trying to give a small, consistent mediocre effort everyday. And its crazy how it adds up, I think I’m going to implement the 1000 days type of mindset into this also.

Hi Gordo, 72 year old English speaking Canadian living in France here. I must stay fit to survive in a country and at an age where goals are supposed to be irrelevant. I remember Gordo from my own 5 X Ironman days during the 1990s. So interesting that he has re - emerged on this, one of my favorite podcasts. I listened during my 1.45 hour M,W,F core strength W/O at 05:00 Jocko style. I am doing 10 hours per week.

Just want to say. I loved the Gordo Byrn podcast. Back in 2010 his blog was my go to source to complete my first Ironman. And even shaped my decision to move from the uk to Nz to build a lifestyle around endurance sport and adventure. Listening to your both talk about the challenges of being and endurance athlete and parent of young kids really hit home. Loved the discussion and am building now my 1000 day plan. Thank you 🙏

Great remarks about TRT towards the end (2:10ish)... I completely agree. As a 50+ athlete, I'm tired of all these gym bros rationalizing their TRT use, letting their aesthetic & performance goals override the lack the longterm studies about endocrine disruption. Very few men actually have clinical low-T so Gordo's comment about "aging gracefully" was a welcome counterpoint.

That’s so cool, Judi. I was on there, too, and owe my first attempt at an Ironman to that great group. My first IM was also Gordo’s (IMC 1999) and it was such a joy to follow his journey and receive the gifts that he gave to us along the way. I’m pretty sure I still have my TRI-DRS cycling jersey. If only I could fit into it… Man, the memories are starting to flood right back.

The training w/ women in skimpy outfits comment was cringe for sure. Guy came off privileged, of course he was over seeing a hedge fund at 25, and not very humble given his upbringing of being an overweight kid who was only good at math. Not a special interview Rich.

I’ve been reading Gordo’s stuff since the late 90’s. I remember reading about that group in 2004. He was not sexist in any way shape or form. Gordo has always had a level of transparency. In this comment, he was probably taken out of context.
@daveholland24582 жыл бұрын
Make sure you listen to the whole podcast. Seems like a great husband, father, athlete, someone who I can gain something from. Half way though the cast. His bits on raising kids really hit home. Core values, work life balance, patience. Things that might be the most important. Take care of yourselves. Take time to listen.
@milesian1 Жыл бұрын
Seriously, get over it. Gordo has been a tremendous mentor and positive influence for countless people for many many years. He’s always been fair minded and open about his mistakes. Being a dedicated husband and father is his proudest accomplishment, and it’s obvious he has sought deeper satisfaction in life beyond fit women in skimpy shorts.
