@joclovelady
@joclovelady 4 жыл бұрын
I reckon he has a right to his arrogance. I think of it more as extremely energetic determination. He has worked his ass off since he was 16. You think back to that time what it would have been like to work in a busy kitchen where he began washing dishes. He used to get paid only 1.25 🤔 an hour. The kitchen was full . Not enough room. No tips. He would get paid and then spend it on food from the restaurant. But he gradually worked his way up. I remember seeing in the news how his London restaurant had 2 Michelin stars and he lost them. He had sacrificed family time and worked sooo hard, trying to choose the right staff to support him, getting his business to a successful level & BAM!! Next day it's in the news. He was lost and devastated. I think he has 5? restaurants now and not sure how many Michelin stars. You have to have some pride in that. It wasn't until I started watching shows of him cooking at home with his family, playing with his children and the way he loves them and treats his girls so preciously; ry hat I started to understand him as a person. He is intensely driven no matter what he does.

So when we say something like "You don't mind do you?" or something to that effect, English speakers usually repeat the negative sentiment, by replying "no I don't mind" or simply No, essentially rephrasing the original question back to show our understanding. We're not responding No to the question, quite the opposite we're agreeing with it by repeating No. So conversely, in a lot of Asian countries the same answer would be Yes when we would say No, as in "Yes I agree with that, I don't mind at all". It's simply answering Yes to the question, which we don't usually do.
