Felipe Peñas guard retention is god-like, you’re right about that.

It’s crazy how many times I’ve seen him get nearly passed against guys like Buchecha and Meregali and make his way out somehow. Crazy. He doesn’t get enough credit for that.
@thos1618 Жыл бұрын
I think the problem with Felipe's game in a No Time-Limit format is those Wrestle-Ups cost a lot of energy. Remember in the Pena / Gordon 3 match, Felipe was able to entangle Gordon over and over and over, but he'd get to the Wrestle-Up point in his system, then didn't have the energy to complete the takedown.

The BJJ channel Less Impressed More Involved also did a video on the match and had a very convincing argument about Gordon not going 100%. I'm not saying you are wrong, and I'm not saying Gordon wasn't trying to pass, but it is possible he wasn't pressing as hard as he could have since it's no time limit. Either way, there's no doubt that Pena is the only person to give Gordon a challenge in a long time. I guess none of us really know what truly happened that day, but great video! The more BJJ analysis the better. Thanks!

Yup I saw it! Great video. I actually don’t believe Gordon was going 100% but I think there was definitely a fair effort to pass Felipe early on. Where he was able to pass Matheus Diniz, Jacob couch, Pedro Marinho etc…, with let’s say 70% effort, he was unable to pass Peña with that same effort. We did see how as the match went on Gordon shut down Felipe’s entries more often and picked up the pace though. But yup just my opinion. Glad you enjoyed the vid though! Stay tuned!

In their upcoming match, I'd like to see Pena try to get to Top 50/50 and instead of withdrawing the Leg for the Wrestle-Up / Single-Leg. That should help him conserve energy.
@cypresspuz2 жыл бұрын
Pena fought with a loser mindset because even before the fight he knew that despite beating Gordon twice, he was now the lesser grappler. His attack tools werent enough to tap Gordon and his defense was good to resist and stand up but just not good enough to avoid getting sumbitted eventually, that's why he quit after feeling a little fatigue.
@DrThickNeck2 жыл бұрын
Some people won’t understand that Felipe’s two wins against Gordon doesn’t bear any significance anymore, only that he was better at the time. Gordon has his number after this match and their skill gap is VASTLY different. He’s leagues above now. You’re only as good as your last match.

If you can't submit people in 5 minutes or less, I don't want to hear about your unstoppable, most effecient deadly Jiu Jitsu. Nick and Nate diaz are not champions or best MMA fighters, just because they are more effecient at fighting someone for an hour non stop.
@thos1618 Жыл бұрын
That's an unrealistic expectation when two grapplers are equally matched.
@cloudoftime Жыл бұрын
JJ is usually only that effective against unskilled or lesser skilled opponents. Nick and Nate Diaz are not JJ world champions. Also, everyone in the UFC has some JJ training, and other skills. They did, however, both fight in championship fights in the UFC. If you don't want to hear about it, you don't have to listen. Especially if you're going to be making unreasonable statements like you did.
