"Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser" (English: God Save Emperor Francis) is an anthem to Francis II, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire and later of Austria. The lyrics were by Lorenz Leopold Haschka (1749-1827), and the melody by Joseph Haydn. It is sometimes called the "Kaiserhymne" (Emperor's Hymn). Haydn's tune has since been widely employed in other contexts: in works of classical music, in Christian hymns, in alma maters, and as the tune of the "Deutschlandlied", the national anthem of Germany.

If the Habsburgs had have a better Minister-President in the 1800s instead of their historical isolationist one, they would have been able to make Greater Germany (all german states united). Sadly the Hohenzollerns destroyed that dream and divided Germany forever... "Gott erhalte Franz den Kaiser" wasn't the national anthem of the Austrian Empire/Austro-Hungarian Empire, it was the national anthem of the HRE. "Gott erhalte, Gott beschütze" was the national anthem of the Austrian Empire/Austro-Hungarian Empire (same melody but different lyrics), I hope you upload it. Nice video!

This song reminds me of a time when Germans could still live in what is now Poland, where Poles could live in what is now Ukraine and where Serbs, Croats and Bosnians likewise needed not to fear expulsion or ethnic cleansing. This song reminds me of a time that preceded the bloody process of nation-state building. Independence movements are worth nothing if they only result in massacres and expulsions. Emperors and empires like those of Franz were meant to stop these things.
