I agree. Al this talk about Corey Hart, or your Brian Adams is a great Canadian musician . NOT so ! . I never listen to them-- I went straight to my record player to play my Larry GOWAN albums. Love, love, LOVE forever to Larry Gowan .Btw, I can't believe it's been so long. I am shocked to learn he is a gray haired old man..i went to a concert where he sang standing on top of one of the speakers as tall as a ten storey apartment building ! He created such excitement / energy within me. Coming from him. So to see him now, so old-- is a shock..but I continue to love this guy . Rock on, Larry !!! 😎😘💕❤️

4 years ago I got the opportunity to meet Mr. GOWAN on a flight to Vegas. We spent the whole time talking and being a Scarborough boy just like him. And how the parents were crazy about watching their kids play play rep hockey. He stayed with my cousin and I all the way to when we picked up our luggage. But I got the chance to tell him about how I felt about this great song of his. He was very gracious to me but I told him that this song of his was up there with the Best of the Best. Very down to earth man. ♥️

September 24, 1985 - Gowan performed live at Memorial Stadium in St. John's Newfoundland. Not the first concert I saw (I was 14 years old), but the first time I saw an artist absolutely bring the house down. The Newfoundland audience was completely into it. Gowan came out for THREE encores, and the only reason he didn't come out for a fourth was because he joked that he ran out of songs. Gowan seemed truly appreciative, and somewhat gobsmacked by the huge noise made by just 4000 enthusiastic concert goers. What an underrated talent. Gowan fan for life.

We went to see Gowan tonight at the River Cree. Known for his energetic live performances, Gowan continues to captivate audiences with songs from his large catalog, many of which are over 30 years old. His ability to deliver powerful vocals and connect emotionally with his audience ensures that his performances remain memorable and impactful, regardless of the age of the songs he plays. Well done Sir. You made it a very special night.

This song of Gowan's has recently gotten into my head. It's maybe his most underrated song. I mean Strange Animal and Moonlight Desires are his most notable tunes, but A Criminal Mind is a dark , almost melancholic the tune, very craftily done.😎👍

Lyrics for those who'd like them: I stand accused before you I have no tears to cry And you will never break me Until the day I die A criminal mind was all I All I've ever known They've tried to reform me But I'm made of cold stone My criminal mind is all I All I've ever had Ask one who's known me If I'm really so bad... I am I've spent my life behind these steel bars I've paid my debt in time But being brought to justice That was my only crime I don't regret a single action I'd do the same again These prison walls secure me And I'm numb to pain A criminal mind is all I All I've ever known They've tried to reform me But I'm made of cold stone My criminal mind is all I All I've ever had Ask one who's known me If I'm really so bad... I am Before you hand me over Before you read my sentence I'd like to say a few words Here in my own defense Some people struggle daily They struggle with their conscience 'til the end I have no guilt to haunt me I feel no wrong intent A criminal mind is all I All I've ever known Don't try to reform me Cause I'm made of cold stone My criminal mind is all I All I've ever had Ask one who's known me If I'm really so bad... I am Oh I am Oh I am I'm made of cold stone Made of cold stone I'm just like these prison walls A criminal mind

I met him in Montreal at a music shop early 80s after he released this album. Later I finally saw him live in LA when he toured with Styx. He played one song of his - “Criminal Mind” at the show and it was great. Many people though, at the show were looking at each other asking what song is this?

It didn't originate with Styx. It originated with this not-Dennis-DeYoung Canadian Genius-Upstart person-guy. Dennis DeYoung is really good. Lawrence Gowan is really good, too. I'm not going to try to compare them; it would be like trying to compare peaches to pineapples.

In the late 90's I went to Lindsay, Ontario to see Burton Cummings. I think it was called the Up Close and Alone Tour. For context, we are talking Lindsay Arena (Rink Pad B) and it was setup like a beer hall. A few hundred people at most. When we arrive we learn that Gowan is opening and we were making jokes about him in the line as we waited to enter. Well, he comes out and blows our minds. He had memorable videos and was in heavy rotation for awhile but until I saw him perform I had no idea the depth of his talent. Goosebumps on Goosebumps as he played. In between he was telling stories, many of them self depricating like when, for a short period, he insisted on being called Lawrence instead of Larry. His big songs were obvious highlights but when he turned around his keyboard so his back was to the audience and played ragtime the speed and accuracy of his left had was astonishing to watch. He ended by talking about what an inspiration Burton had been to him growing up and played a heartfelt cover of "These Eyes" and it was so good. Let's just say that after his performance I barely remember anything about Burton's performance...Larry stole the show and then some. Earned my respect and a fan for life.
