Just made this for a midweek meal and the family was very pleased with it. Love this channel. I subbed in some serranos and jalapenos instead of bell peppers, added grated carrots, shallots, and celery into the sausage mix to cook the moisture out.

I make pretty much the same casserole. Try adding a layer of shredded (pre-made) potatoes to the layering. You can brown them earlier so you have them ready - sometimes I sauté the onions and then add the potatoes. Game changer and so good! Such a great casserole when you have overnight guests. Great video!

Probably too late to be seen but, the can of biscuits are randomly “exploding” because they’re being warmed up by sitting out so the dough expands, you’re basically proofing the dough as it sits out. If you take the biscuits out of the fridge when you’re ready to cook them, you have to open the can, peeling the wrapper and pressing on the cardboard with a spoon or your squeezing with your hand. Much simpler and much easier to work with cold dough.

Turkey or chicken sausage are two alternatives.

Yes & instead of bacon grease for gravy, make the gravy with some of the grease from the turkey or chicken sausage when you brown it (save the grease). Add a little butter (even if you use unsalted butter) & flour, heavy cream or milk. If you want more flavor add diced onions to the butter/ turkey or chicken sausage grease and stir until thickened. That’s a great alternative to use instead of pork ( season to taste also, with a little smoked paprika). Enjoy! 😉 ❤
