Learn how to do more pushups fast. These tips will help you increase your pushups and the total amount of reps you can complete without getting tired. Not only do pushups help you get stronger but push ups also are great for your chest. This video is great for anyone trying to master the pushup whether you're a beginner or advanced.

Pushups require the strength of your chest, shoulders, triceps, and even your core, so it's no surprise that the number of pushups that you can do is closely linked to the strength of your upper body. That's why pushups are used to test overall physical fitness by organizations like police, military, and even at schools in gym classes. Pushups can also build up your upper body any equipment...they can even be done at home. So today I want to share 10 major tips that helped me literally five to 10x the number of pushups I could do.
And the first important thing to do is make sure that you're performing the push up correctly with proper form. Now I know this may sound like common sense, but you wouldn't believe how many people I've worked with that think they know, but they actually don't know how to perform pushups properly. One of the most common mistakes that I've seen is when someone doesn't brace their core and that causes their spine to round either up or down rather than stay in a neutral position. Not only can this lead to a lower back injury but it can also actually make the exercise easier when you drop your hips or harder when you raise them. Another common mistake is flaring your elbows out too far, you want them at about a 45-degree angle from your body. A good tip to prevent your elbows from flaring out is to slightly rotate your hands outward before planting them on the ground for pushups. This will naturally rotate your elbows inward. One last mistake that you might make if you're a beginner is positioning your hands too narrow, which is great for overloading the triceps but it will reduce the number of reps that you can do overall. So the way to do pushups correctly is by first getting down on all fours with your hands slightly rotated outward and spreading them slightly wider than shoulder-width apart. Then plant your toes into the ground behind you, get into a pushup position, while squeezing your core and glutes so that the back of your head your hips, and your heels end up in a relatively straight line. Then bend your elbows and lower your body down until your chest is right above the ground and finally push yourself back up until your elbows are straightened.
Now the next tip to increase your pushups is many times overlooked even though it's the lowest hanging fruit, which is to lose body fat. There are a couple reasons why gymnasts and people that are good at calisthenics have low body fat percentages and one of the most obvious benefits is that they have to overcome less resistance when moving their bodies. The same is true for the push-up. The more you weigh, the harder it'll be. And the less you weigh, the easier it’ll be. This is actually contrary to the bench press, where people are generally stronger the heavier they are. This is because, unlike a pushup, bench pressing doesn't force you to lift your body weight. And to get a better idea we can look at a study published in The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research that found that, on average, you have to push up about 64 percent of your body weight when doing push-ups. (1) So if you weigh lets say 200 pounds you'll have to push through 128lbs of resistance, meanwhile if you weigh 150 pounds you'll only have to overcome 96 pounds of resistance. So, it's obvious if you want to be able to do more push-ups, lose excess body fat and I have a ton of videos that can help with that that i'll link to this video.
Another tip that can help those of you that are advanced, as well as those of you that are beginners, is to use Kneeling and Incline Push-Ups. Since you have to press up about 64% of your body weight when doing a regular push-up a lot of that weight will be taken off when performing pushups from your knees or with your hands placed on higher inclines. Specifically, the same study found that during kneeling pushups you're only lifting about 49 percent of your body weight and during elevated pushups, it can drop to 41 percent or even lower. So, it's pretty obvious how this can help beginners. If you can’t do a regular push-up yet, you could get started with kneeling or incline push-ups and progress from there. But even if you're advanced when you push yourself to failure it's very effective to drop to your knees and squeeze out a few additional reps especially if you haven't hit your rep target before giving out. This is actually very similar to performing a drop set when lifting weights and drop sets are very effective for gaining strength and size...

I could hardly do 1 pushups literally 1 years ago. In my school we used to play truth or dare. And most of the times when I choced dare some of my friends wanted me to do 20 pushups which I always failed. But from then I started to train harder and harder. I increased it from 1 to 5 then 5 to 10. And within a month only I could do 30 easily. Now I can can do 50 push ups at ones effortlessly. And it helped me to increase my strength and reduce my body fat. Thanks for the likes.

I too used to do pushups but i stopped doing them since like idk how many months it has been. Now i don't a single pushup. I lack continuity. Also after pushups my shoulders and arms hurt so I usually don't do anything the next day which is a break in the continuity. At when during the day should i do pushups cuz i don't have a schedule. I have to look out for my parents or it'll be awkward doing pushups while they're being around. Also can you suggest me how many pushups or reps should i do. I can normally do around 10 - 12 normal ground pushups (maybe more inclined ones).

About a month and a half ago, I started doing push ups. Started with 3 sets of 10 within an hour of jogging first week. Then went up to 4 sets of 10 second week, 3rd week I was able to jump to 7 sets. On the 4th week I jumped to 12 sets, then the following week I jumped to 15 sets, and a week later I was able to jump to 20 sets of 10 within the hour. Now working towards 25! I still got some improvements to make on my form since I get slight back sores now and then but I can fix that! Any one reading this, you can do it too!! PS: Within the month I noticed an awesome change in my chest, biceps, and triceps! 🔥

I actually noticed that I can't for the love of it hit my chest enough if I do a 45 degree flaring... I need to do more in order to concentrate the work on my chest. Otherwise, I end up fatiguing my triceps, and the chest gets almost 0 workout and is never fatigued... So a slightly bigger flare works wonders for me. And no, my triceps are fine, while my chest is always underdeveloped :D I just can't seem to get it to contract proper otherwise. I also make sure to do a little bit of a butt arching to the top :D But just a little bit - this makes sure I get more resistance going.

You can actually train effectively with your own bodyweight you can target the chest extremely good but as you said you have to keep going. Training with your own bodyweight is very effective and you don't have to pay for a gym or anything. If you want to increase muscles make the exercises harder like with push ups or something. Train with a timer like 40 Seconds on a particular exercises and see how well you are going and if you master it increase time or do some variations in your reps. Everyone is different but I personally train at home an I hear so many people say " You can't train with your own bodyweight" that's a lie try it yourself and you will see it works. That's the reason bodybuilders can't do many push ups because they have a good amount of mass that they have to push same goes for people that are overweight but if you're overweight you can train it of but if you're a bodybuilder it's really hard to push your own bodyweight with such a mass. I recommend training at home with your own bodyweight and see how it goes or you pay for a gym and only go there once or twice. If you're at home you are able to see your motivation and if it's nothing for you then it's ok but you don't have to pay for a gym you doesn't go to.

Question: once proficient at the push up and diamond push ups is it best to push to fail each set or stick to the same amount in each set and up the sets? Thanks in advance.
@jjohnsonnccc
@jjohnsonnccc 2 жыл бұрын
Tbh once you can do sets of 25-30 you should really change up the type of push-ups you do. Widespread, dive bombers, stick bugs, etc.. and IMO, not that push ups aren’t a good exercise, but I think they are over emphasized. If there is one body weight exercise that would be really good to train and rep-out, it would be pull ups. Your posterior muscles are much more important than your chest muscles
@More-than-ladyboys
@More-than-ladyboys 2 жыл бұрын
@@jjohnsonnccc thanks for your words. Yes, I’d read this to be the case re the 25-30 mark. I mix it all up with sets of pull ups and chin ups on separate days, but appear to be getting the best gains from diamond push-up days. Think I’ll go to the decline diamond at the start of Feb, I’m sticking to a workout plan for each month, changing every month. All good fun 🙏🏼

Ahhh, this speaks to me so much! Thanks for your handy hints. I'll be sure to apply what I haven't been doing already. I feel like maybe you'd like to hear my story! ... 5 months ago I was just an overweight, severely unfit middle-aged woman, then I started working on fitness and movement 2-3 times a week. Last month I decided I want to be able to do a proper push up and started focusing my training to include core and more weights for my arm and shoulder muscles, with sets of incline pushups on alternate days. I thought 4 - 5 weeks would be enough to reach my goal, but I might need more time and am not stopping till I reach it. Wish me luck! And thanks again.

Back in the day, I was 176lbs bench pressing 315lbs. At work, I'd throw out 20 pushups at a time all day long while waiting for downloads or during online meetings, but some youngsters, 20 years younger than me, were doing 50 pushups at the end of each night. I thought, "I'd do 150 at a time at their age!" So I decided to up my game, but I ended up tearing my rotator cuffs. I wasn't even sure how I did them wrong to cause that, but that was a couple years ago, and I haven't been able to do a pushup on the ground since. I've started doing them against the wall, and I'm back up to 40lbs on the machine - 10 sets of 20. Any heavier than that, and my shoulders hurt though. Sucks.
