You guys are REAL...and that wins the day for me! Two things that strike me with this video: 1) Your boy is terrific! Well, both of them are, but the older one just seems like such a very fine young man. My professional career has been as a teacher (I taught "shop" for many years) and as a middle school principal before I was hired as a prof at MS State University. So, I have a real love for "kiddos" and I know I would have had a magnetic relationship with your son. He's such a nice looking young fella -- really a "clean" kind of young man. And, I love that he's so helpful and so smart. 2) The way the two of you interact is so comforting and rewarding. I'll bet there's not a single bit of "put on" about y'all. And, your boys get to see what it's like when two adults come together as parents and treat one another with such respect. That means that your boys will be great husbands and fathers. Sam and Angela, our church is tiny and worships in a converted double wide+. Recently the HVAC unit started failing so they started talking about replacing it with splits. My husband had no idea what they were talking about, but I did, solely because of watching you with your videos. That's not the first time this has happened, and it felt so good! Now everything is installed and people are trying to get used to how it all works. Thank you for the education, entertainment, and just plain wonderful friendship from afar.

One of my son's favorite memories is his "guys" in the (Charlie Brown) Christmas tree. He (and his brothers) would set up tree houses and ropes and every guy had a home. He told me a couple of years ago that he had set up his own Charlie Brown tree early, with only lights, for his toddler son to have time for his guys. Now he has 4 boys (3 of them were within 16 months) and soon enough he'll start scouting for just the right awful tree for this year's fun. I have to admit that I love Christmas lights more than ornaments so the "granny" tree will be ready for "the guys" also. 8 little boys, and one granddaughter in the middle to add some style. Good times. I love that your beautiful tree harbors this secret :)

Neat idea. I wish it was a vented heater though but as you are not using it for your primary heat source and you are aware of the potential hazard in using up the O2 in the house I think you'll be OK. I am sure your brother will do it up right for you. Please be careful though, your house isn't nearly as air leaky as it once was due to the great work you have done remodeling it. I know you don’t think the color of the fireplace doesn’t go with your decor. However, the almost black color will help to balance the two rectangular shapes. In other words both object will feel equally important.

Love that man-approach: "You mean a wall heater with some ambiance" . We went a couple of years 'round and 'round about "yard art" and when the other half truly got it he said something like "Do mean like the farmer's junk heap pile of things too good to toss but aren't likely to be touched again?"; he came from more of a farming background. Or, when we were putting 2-man rocks into place on a hillock with a man, a woman, and gravity: "What do you mean rocks have a 'face'! A rock is a rock, what do you mean I have to heave it up and turn it around...".

I had to cut the baseboard behind my fire place to make it fit tight against the wall and look built-in and added fireplace 'embers' to really make the logs glow like they are burning. I'm sure your brother will know, I believe they are just rock wool pieces. The fireplace looks great.

I loved my gas fireplace especially if the electric went out because I was all electric. The home I live in now there wasn’t enough room so I have the wall mounted gas heaters. I like where you have put it and once you get the TV mounted it will look even better.

I think that fireplace is really nice looking, I know that it is a darker color but it does look really nice, that darker color makes it pop against that wall, if it were white it would blend in and almost disappear, so I guess it is really whatever you would like, white or leave it the darker color because it really is pretty looking.
