Can we get some more positive creators on the next one. Fareeha was a breath of fresh air. Flats seems burnt out, and it's depressing when Sam and Flats go on a roll of negativity. Games in a decent spot imo, and it's just a bummer to watch 4 hours of people that might be burnt out complain about every little thing. 2 Season ago I could understand, but damn, the game is halfway in a decent state.

So here is the reality: In Bronze - Plat, Lifeweaver is going to be absolutely useless. Even more useless than old Sombra was. a) Players are going to pull the wrong targets at the wrong time (like bad ana nade usage), that flower is 200% useless for all the reasons you can think off. The only MAYBE is to use it as an escape tool c) lifeweavers are going to die A LOT aka they will grant enemeis a lot of healing c) since up until Diamond Bastion Torb, Sym, Junk and Reaper are must pick meta, the tree is a useless tool aswell. It will die in seconds. In other words: Lifeweaver is useless for all ranks below grandmasters.

I think the idea of pressing a button to break the life grip is much better than pressing a button to confirm it, it let's it keep the instant use capability but still gives them a way to get out of it.

@@Atlas13331 You would still have to react quickly to it, and I don’t think if you’re in the middle of a fight you would want more pressure by having to deal with pressing a button when your Lifeweaver pulls you in when you don’t even know when he will pull you in to begin with.

Honestly the interact key to break the ability is a much worse solution. You have to take into account reaction time to break it. Lets use an example. Say I'm rein and earth shatter the enemy and get life gripped at that moment I that need to react the jarring situation of me being pulled out of nowhere with a button press. Lets say I react to it at the average human reaction time of 200ms which is still incredibly fast (this will not be the average time it actually takes people to react to it due other variables). You will still be half way between the point you were and where you got life gripped too which means your entire ulti is still wasted as you most likely will not be able to get back into position in time to follow up on the play. Interacting to accept the pull is a significantly better solution but honestly the best solution is to remove the ability entirely and give life weaver a different ability all together. Life grip is not a good ability in an FPS that requires insanely fast reactions and split second decision making. We also DO NOT need more invulnerabilities to constantly bail people out of mistakes making the game more and more frustrating to play as it feels like you cannot capitalize on mistakes nearly as much anymore.

Flats genuinely needs to take a break from the game. He is SO angry, in a way Ive been with games I love before. I respect his opinions, a lot, but like, when I heard him say the pharah jump jet directional input was horrible for the game. I knew he's a little too far into the doomium sauce. He spent all of season 3 complaining that everything was a bad choice, when genuinely it has been one of the best, well balanced periods of overwatch in forever.

I think the whole point of the Brig change was to make her live up to her role. She was always meant to be the tanky support. So they basically made her ult her becoming a tank and it’s unique to her.

While that is true, the last time they made her a tanky support was release Brig and she killed the game. So I understand the concerns with making her ult effectively release brig again.

Four major changes have happened since we had that Brig. 1) Role Lock. 2) 5v5 and specifically down to 1 tank (not all of which have shields). 3) 2CP has exited the chat 4) A huge number of heroes added to the game that are either effective counters to her, or just straight up don't care about her presence. Also, let's be real, people don't play stacked in 5v5 which is not a "nerf" to AoE heals, but AoE heals are generally less oppressive in OW2. Push straight up shouldn't be played stacked on point, payload and hybrid maps are rarely played with the team stacked on point except on maps where flyer and sniper comps are suboptimal, which leaves KOTH as the outlier and yeah, if they get set up on there it's trouble, but so is a wide range of other comps (turrets, mei, stall, etc).

To be fair, this isn't old brig because it's not a stun perpetually every few seconds, it's a couple stuns every ultimate and although the ult is probably too strong, it's a big difference from having a stun always available, and having a stun as an ultimate basically

The stun isn’t really the problem, it’s the MASSIVE sustain she provides for herself and others. 700 shield and instant armor health buff is ridiculous. Add everything else and she’s basically Brig 1.0 for the duration of Rally which is more than enough time to guarantee a fight win.

@@OmniJohnny Yeah. AOE Stun is going to be annoying, but whatever. It gives her a playmaking tool, but given that she has to rally to get it first, it requires good enough game sense due to the activation animation of rally, (you have to do it somewhat preemptively). Brig being literally unkillable during Rally is kinda dumb. It's not like a Zen trans where that's the point. Zen can't shoot during trans. Brig gets a shield, a stun, all of her normal damage and healing too? Folks have talked about how the meta won't be good for Brig anyways with Lifeweaver coming in and Ram/Rein being meta. But new Rally is bad design even if she isn't oppressive imo.

Freedo is the only realistic take on this when it comes to new heros are the dramatic shifts that new heros have and do make.

Just started listening but it does still feel like Sam never addressed the "Just an ult" thing properly and appreciate Freedo offering some points outside of the babyrage. "Brig can't be run down anymore, she just pops rally 100% the time because she has it 100% of the time". Because it really is just like a big turbo buff to her ultimate, but all the time outside of that phase she's regular Brig. Not to say I don't agree with him on how they should make her more intuitive and better designed to play with letting people see her huge AOE healing field from inspire. It's just like I do feel like her old rally ultimate was pretty mid in the OW2 environment. And honestly I don't really see why some good nerfs can't just bring her back in line in a later patch. If she does turn out to be unkillable you can do things like lower her armor or shield health etc. Letting her stun through barriers is pretty weird though.

My only concern with Life Grip needing a confirmation from the player receiving it is the amount of time they would need to accept the grip. Overwatch can be sensory overload with its various status effects and screen clutter, so I could easily see people not realizing they are griped. I guess my potential solution to this would be once Lifeweaver casts grip on the receiving player, they still get the bubble shield. That way if they choose to get pulled or not, they at least have a bit of protection and have time to react to hit the interact key.

@@burberryshake6054 the feeling of overwatch 1 was soo good when the meta was set and you could shoot, counteract, use skillful thinking like any other tactical fps like csgo or rainbow six siege. Then balance got out of hand where new characters broke what was good about the game, ruined agency. Dive meta required team co-ordination and below diamond it didn’t even exist. No one above diamond were annoyed about dive from what I remember. Reinhardt and zarya rush was also loved by most and allowed for a variety of team compositions. Stationary zenyattas could pop off and swing a fight, lucios could time with the team to rush and boop an enemy into the enemy team, the Reinhardt v rein bait out ults and timings were exilerating, and zaryas could save teammates who were out of position, but it wouldn’t stop them from dying if multiple enemies were on a character (as it should be when you’re out of position). Even dps got a slice of the cake, with genji having quick reflexes and understanding of every character’s movement and getting 3ks, and 6ks with a nano boost. Mccree could punish it with a well timed flash, and zarya could buy time with her bubble management and her raw damage.

Basically the game had a great multiple character dynamic that made Overwatch Overwatch, just like how other fps games have their own dynamic. Now it kinda feels like everything is too skirmishy with random abilities hitting with little special interactions that made this game a hero shooter that won game of the year.

There should be someone on the panel that has only played the game since the launch of OW2. A lot of the topics have great points shared, but it would be nice to see things from the perspective of a newer player/content creator. In theory, some of these changes may be bad for the game, but all of the gloom and doom surrounding balance changes that the general player base has yet to experience does not help the game either. As a newer player myself, it’s almost impossible to find a content creator that is happy with the game. Meanwhile, everyone I know has been dropping their main games to play Overwatch.

I've been playing since ow 2 and I gotta say I strongly dislike how the supports have been overturned. While simple characters like Cassidy/McCree have been getting buff after buff and a more technical character like genji has been nerfed to the ground. I played mercy and Kiriko since the first season and it feels like their survivability is too strong especially for mercy who is an easy to pick up hero. I never believed that overwatch 2 was balanced because someone is always going to find something they dislike about the game. All of genji's counters have been getting buffs and genji never got any compensation buffs after the first season. Diving characters can feel like a death sentence because of all the power creep.

As a Masters support Main w/ very high hours on Mercy, what distinguishes a good mercy player from a bad one is her movement and survivability. Casual mercy players or casual support players in general don’t know how to move the same ways as like say a “one trick” high Elo mercy main or a mercy that has spent hours on practicing her movement techs. Mercy has always been an easily to play character healing wise but hard to master in terms of her movement. So what I don’t get is why they are basically punishing the Mercy players that do have a high skill expression w/ her movement. Not everyone can maximize her movement to its full potential, the devs need to know that😭

Same reason why they kept massacring doom. Only those doom onetricks were getting value from him in OW1, but everyone hated him anyways. Same with the unkillable mercy that pretty much flew around with impunity that no one could kill no matter what they did. Only a few can pull it off, but everyone who has to face it will end up frustrated to no end. Mercy movement is an issue, because she can do things without punishment, where she really should be able to be punished. Mercy players should be able to have fun, but so should the people facing her. Mercy should be survivable, but not impossible to hit, just as brig should be good but not immortal, or doom should be good but not a one shot machine, so on.

@@78-GH most ults aren’t channels that can be cancelled by a stun though, but most ults can get cancelled on activation, but brig can’t speed past her ult animation into a stun to stop ult activations reactively. Brig would already have to be in ult form and enemies close enough to get bashed. Otherwise I agree, her ult isn’t encroaching on other defensive ults.

for mercy, just make it to where you can still cancel during slingshot (jump) but keep the 1.5 state duration for superjump (crouch). so regular ga is still 1.5 seconds. slingshot is still 3.0 seconds (with the state duration) but the good mercy players will still be able to cancel her slingshot to make it 1.5. i think her superjump should have a 1.5 state duration because you shouldn’t be spamming that ability anyways for survival reasons. if they have to nerf her health for that to happen then sure go for it. also, i know they said they couldn’t find a middle ground for her heal but even if the healing bellow half is minimal, id still appreciate there being layers towards her healing.

Sam made a great point. Supports do have great tools. But if you can't use those tools on your team cause you need em for yourself, they aren't as impactful. Of course, dps and tank should turn and burn to keep their supports alive... But you can't expect that for all levels of play. Now, with Brig, she doesn't have the tools to make big plays. Her ultimate is a "I hope we can push into site with this"....vs a Rush, Transcendence, Nano.... Big playmaking ultimates. Whipshot is decent for keeping people from jumping you and initiating Inspiration.... But that's it. She has a sort of escape option if she over extends...idk, her ultimate was the only think that she needed a fix for. She needs this. While the numbers may be a Lil much, the ideas/tools were needed to make her ultimate worth doing.

The point Freedo and SVB were making about reworking supports is yes they have the kit to change a fight but that kit relies on their whole team. Yes ana can change a fight with anti nade but ana cant get a fight changing kill by herself as well as a tank or dps can. Ana has Sleep, high damage primary, and Nade, Moira has Fade, Orbs, and life steal, Bap has one of the best primaries in the game and Immortality Field, Kiriko has immortality and a two tap on her primary, Zen can two tap and has a the best quick melee in the game, Lucio has the best mobility in the game with a decent primary, and Brig has a high damage combo and a personal shield. Yet all supports still lose to tanks, as they should because no "Support" role should be able to win any solo battle against anyone, especially the (now 2nd) most powerful role in the game.

Just a thought on the overall tone and format of the podcast: Freedo made an excellent point about analyzing the high-level impact of various changes versus how they affect casual play, "the 99%" as I believe he called us. 😏 I love the top-tier discussions. Always enlightening and educational. However, one of the things that draws me to certain content creators is a certain willingness to lay out how some elements affect everyone below Masters. Jayne always did this admirably well, and SVB, KarQ and Samito all typically do their best to lay things out for us peasants. For the longest time, we had.....I don't know, Blame The Controller? And that felt like about it. It's nice to feel seen.

100% this brig change is for low skill level players because in games with less coordination and game sense supports get trashed if the enemy has even 1 person focusing them. A lot of times these guys don’t understand how the game is at the lower levels of play. If the enemy team brings a pharah and you don’t have a really solid hitscan…..it’s just a loss. Having a beefier support that can instantly heal and become tankier means supports kind of have a chance against a flanker ulting them. What Sam is describing is not how ga works. Ga has a 1.5 second cooldown but doing anything else adds an additional 1.5 second cooldown regardless of wether you finish the movement or not. So you could be finished doing a guardian Angel movement and still have it start the cooldown late. I’m just confused as to why they further nerfed it to 3 seconds. It makes no sense

I'd love to get some perspective on this. Samito said at the start that what tends to bother him about some support heroes is that the amount of input is disproportionate to the amount of reward you receive, that part I understand. At the same time though, we have to worry about why a character like Reinhardt has to be good in top 500, even though he exemplifies that playstyle from a tank perspective. In lower ranks, he's a character that you just hold right click and W, then when you get close you hold left click and W. He's not complicated, and it's all about the game sense, not the mechanics. As a tank main myself, I'm fine with Reinhardt falling off, it's just like how Moira, Junkrat, etc, should fall off once you get into Masters/GM. I mean, I know the real reason. People just like playing with Reinhardt. The Overwatch community is 100% biased towards Rein and against Brigitte(and honestly a decent chunk of support heroes, as SVB mentioned having players throw the game for a LUCIO pick), but buffing Reinhardt to be competitively viable in top 500 is exactly what you DON'T want for Brigitte, because it'd be a disproportionate skill/reward ratio that'll only make him more oppressive in lower tiers. Like I said, I probably answered my own question, but why is it bad for less mechanically focused heroes to be the meta in top 500 if they're supports, but Reinhardt needs to be viable in all tiers?

I dont agree with this logic, characters shouldn't be balanced based on the skill needed to operate them. First off, by this logic Ball would deserve to be buffed into the moon because of how much harder he is to play than any other hero in the game by a large amount. Mechanically he is hard as fuck to play, double boops and the like are really hard to execute, even for veteran players. If he was as good as he was hard to play, the game would be unplayable. Moira/Junkrat fall off because they're bad in the current meta not because they're low skill. They have weaker kits than the counterparts in their roles, it's not because "low skill heroes" have to suck. Hell, reaper was meta for such a long time back in the day and he's even easier than rat. What you have to realize is a characters strength has no relation to how hard or easy they are. It's not bad for less mechanically focused heroes to be meta in top500, it's just easier to express skill with heroes with stronger kits. The meta is based off of perceived strength not perceived difficulty. A good operator can take advantage of these strengths. People want rein to be viable in all tiers because he's a simple, popular hero thats easy to play around and is very straightforward to fight against. It has nothing to do with him being weak/strong, they enjoy the gameplay involved. Personally I dont care for rein that much but I do think balancing around perceived difficulty to operate can A) lead to arguments because everyone disagrees about perceived strength, leading to us being balanced by blizzard's PERCEPTION of a meta they dont quite understand. B) Leads to gameplay that isnt as fun and engaging as it could be, because of what I mentioned about rein before. IMO rein being "good" is usually a sign the meta isnt obnoxious, but thats a whole other topic for another day

No I think the point is. You get rid of a DPS. DPS is going to be lacking because the second DPS is going to have a harder time picking up the slack. @@Totothegoat01 nah, no shot. There are few ults that get that kind of value for so little input. Literally just point it at what ever you want and it will do something. It can't be deflected, shields don't stop it, it damages, it heals, and it's range makes it forgiving. It's only meaningfully countered by like, 3 characters. Meanwhile blade requires arguably the most input for value. It requires timing, it requires you to manage at least one other ability while using it to get value, it's damage is meh, you're automatically THE target, and you have to get close to everyone. That's not to mention the fact that Genji is one of the worst characters overall right now specifically because of what was said in this discussion. Too many characters provide value just by existing, and Moira is one of them.

He openly admitted that his arguments were in bad faith. He said something along the lines of “Everyone else in the community just wants the heroes they play to be busted, why shouldn’t I?” He wants to see tanks busted again and supports running for their lives. Conceptually Ana’s new sleep does make sense. The amount of tranquilizer needed for a person vs a horse is different. Orsisa is bigger than a horse. Of course heros like Torb should sleep for even longer lol but i think we could ignore that.

I honestly think Skiesti's idea of lowering the HP is the right call. Make her 175 but give her the S2 movement. Even in the metal ranks Mercy had been waaay outliving the rest of her team. If that's still not enough, slow her GA speed by 10%, raise the cooldown to 1.7s (but a real 1.7s, not the S4 weirdness of "the 1.5s cooldown doesn't start until the 1.5s tech cooldown cooldown finishes"), and call it a day. Just baby steps, not what they're doing now which is making huge, bizarre changes that are gutting the skill expression and fun of the character.

As I watched more and more over the months of this podcast, I've noticed that too. Everytime a positive change happens to a support character Flats and Sam always pile on the negativity with the change. And as the patch moved forward, it goes to happen that it's not really that huge of a deal. I love both Flats and Sam, but man everytime a positive change happens to a support they always are against it. And as a support main, it's kinda getting old now to me to be honest. My stance on the support changes is that the Ana change was stupid, and for the Brig change is let's wait and see what happens first. The stun that brig does now is more of an interrupt (literally 0.1 sec and not enough to burst someone down), and is only active on Rally.

Brig gets 2 stuns at most with this change. The thing is the ult also went from 30% to 15% speed boost. I doubt that 2 stuns would ever be applicable in-game. Especially with her new shield, since it is bigger, it also can be destroyed faster and we know brig is nothing without her shield. The way us brig mains used this current rally was to force as much space as we could within the 10 seconds and 30% speed boost helped a ton. Im guessing the devs didnt like that? Since most support ults are defensive and rally was more offensive, its some kind of problem lmao. The only thing im looking forward to with this new rally is to stun a nano blade genji lol but thats about it. I just hope base brig doesnt get nerfed to compensate for an arguably better rally, and my hopes arent up bc they already nerfed pack range.

JFC Samito it's only her ult. She still plays the same for most of the game and everybody agreed her old ult was low impact. I guess he was perfectly fine with that though. I wouldn't say she's unkillable until I see how quickly she regenerates her armor during that 10 seconds (I guarantee you I'll find a way to get killed during it lol). "THIS IS NOT WHY PEOPLE PLAY SHOOTER GAMES!" he keeps repeating, like COD has tanks and support/healers. Then bro goes on to insult like 95% of the audience here saying below masters he guarantees people weren't playing her "right" and that's the real problem. I don't play a lot of Brigitte myself but I'm sure the people who play her are people (playing a "shooter game") and they deserve to feel like their ult can be impactful just as much as the Genji blade or the Orissa Terra Surge. We scream here about 2 possible short stuns countering ults within a 10 second window (with an ult) while Doomfist is free to knock you out of channeled ults, with an aoe impact, every 4 seconds and Hanzo can still miss who he's shooting at and one shot you on accident. Let the Brig mains have their fun for now I say (until they kill me one too many times and I start to rage and join your side calling for nerfs lol). This kind of overblown response is the kind of thing that drove a mob to harass the voice actress last time around. Take it down a notch. Don't get your fanbase riled up. Chill tf out. To clarify, Flats and Samito's discussion at 8:09 about Brig's win rate is not entirely accurate. While it is true that Brig has a high win rate, this is primarily due to her low play rate. A low play rate means that there are fewer data points to draw conclusions from, which can result in inaccurate data. Brig's low play rate means that the players who do use her are often highly skilled or at least average with her. It doesn't matter how much CC you use, tanks get less interruption and now Ana is even punished against tanks for reducing the sleep timer. It's like you have no clue how to play support, are you playing in bronze/silver or something? The only 3 movement abilities that can survive a tank pushing a single support is Moira fade, Mercy GA, and Kiriko swift step. That's it. Other attacks that pushes tanks like boops, whipshot, or zen kick doesn't push a tank far enough for them to survive because tanks have more resistance to abilities that displaces them. That's why it's mandatory for the other support to help their fellow support teammate so they can survive. IF a tank is smart enough, which happens at higher ELO Diamond and above, they'll wait for enemy support CD's to be used before pushing to instakill 1 support if their other support is nowhere to be found. Also you forgot, Brig 0.1 sec stun is only active on Rally. You talk as if Rally is activated 100% of the time.

Samito IS a support. I know he is most popular for his dps as an entertainer, but as a competitor, he *is* a support. It's regularly his highest ranked role (he peaked in top 10 support I believe) and he consistently played support as a contender level professional. Freedo has always been a flex player, but I believe for all of OW2 at least, support is his best performing role.
