I had a reaction to this product, and it irritated my scalp, and thinned out my edges. I stopped using it, and my hair grew back. All edges matter. Please like, share, and subscribe. If you have any questions, please let me know and I will respond as soon as possible.

The following story is convoluted, but it IS about hair acceptance. I realized that I was never going to be "that girl" when a guy laughed at me simply because of how I styled my hair. Let me define "that girl". Amongst Black men "that girl" is deemed desirable because she's at least average height, is light brown to fair skinned, and has hair that hits her shoulders or beyond (naturally smooth waves or 1/2 inch-wide ringlets preferably). I attended an HBCU in the 90s. When I was a college sophomore or junior taking a leisurely walk cross campus due to boredom, a pivotal interaction occurred. Here's the story. As I came down the driveway from one of the girl's dorms I saw him. Tall, strong build, green eyes and wavy dark hair. He was one of the guys you notice right away. I knew of him and he of me. We were not acquaintances though. We struck up a short conversation that felt like flirting until he began teasing me about my hair. I was wearing a relaxer and decided to not just do the bang and ponytail that I normally rocked. I decided to place a ringlet at each temple. I had seen others do it so I figured why not me. He told me it wasn't a good choice (basically he said my hair wasn't curly like his so don't imitate the curl). At this point I felt not only less than, but ugly. His comments were added on top of the pile that I had already gotten from family and "friends". I had always wanted to change my hair... what I mean was I thought that there was a way to forever make my naps waves and ringlets. I'm from the world of science so I should have known better, but it is hope that always makes us want what is not feasible. A few years after the comment I decided to wear a very short natural. It was the first time I received a compliment about looking beautiful. It was a transitional look as I didn't know how to manage it other than edging it up to not see "beady b's". Fast forward to 2012. I went permanently natural. I realized that what grew out of my scalp was not an error. It was growing out of the scalps of millions of others who, in their own way, made beautiful contributions to this world. Trying to make it look like a "smoother" texture was doing it a disservice. Sure a comb only wins when my hair is wet, but I win knowing I'm better for not hating who and what I am.

I do think you’re right about the gels and edge controls. I’m in the midst of repairing my thinned out edges because of slicking my edges to the gods when I was loose natural 😅🤦🏾‍♀️ Thanks for sharing!

I have real African 4z hair. Nothing hold absolutely NOTHING… held my edges.. so holders looked like grease. Now that I’m locked and I’m not a product junkie, my edges are flourishing since I locked them in the past 6 weeks.. now they are coming baby I’m taking care of them am a diy-er so I’m not letting anyone touch my babies…

Hi Long Live... OMG that is totally my story! I have spent literally thousands of $ on products and hair (wigs, weaves, extensions) and I could not believe not one product out there worked for me. I discovered Val at Livin Divine a few months ago and my jaws dropped when I noticed her striking beautiful appearance and hair! I turned 55 in June 2021. Started researching locs and I am proud to say October 2021 i joined the loc community. Finally I am FREE. Free from hating my 4Z hair! Free from waisting all of my money on marketing lies. Now I graciously accept what God gave me. I just had to say thank you for sharing this comment. 😭😍

I love your locs and how you explained the edges. I have been Sisterlocked since 2009 and I take very good care of my locs. Lately been noticing at 67, they are getting thinner, and also my edges. I do not use gels at all and take medication and I am wondering if my edges are thinning from all my medication? Any advice? I just found your channel on Thursday of this week and I am loving it.

Thank you so much. The best advice I can give you is to ensure that your retightenings are not too tight, which can cause some thinning. Also, with the best of care, some medications will cause hair thinning. Make sure you are consistenly taking your multivitamins daily.

Oh Lord! Thinning edges is such a problem among us. I personally try hard not to use edge control very often. I have baby braid locs. Still tempted once in a while because the hair along my front edges is 4c all the way and so fragile, although the rest of my head is a mixture of 4b and 4a. Also trying hard not to pull my hair back too tight or retighten too close. Great topic!!!
