At this age(50) I'm focusing on my diet and like you, finding a way to stay consistent when life happens. I did well when I had structure so I'm going back to my Mediterranean diet, cut back on sugar and planned out my meals/macros.

You certainly cannot out train a bad diet. You may get to navigate it for a while, but the slow down on the training arrives and slowly declines, as the bad diet snatches you. Been there, go there, may be there again in the future. My 52nd bday is few days out and I'm thrilled to be back into the routine of just being active again. I'm a pescatarian who's mostly plant-based. I hike 2-3 times a week. Three days a week I do HIIT cardio/circuit (in the gym). This includes one day of full upper body and another day of lower body. I also have a yoga set. I intersperse the hula hoop in the circuit on one of my gym days. My hikes are 75-80 minutes. My 'gym' time is 1 hour. But the diet is decent and by that I do enjoy my junk carbs. I do intermittent fasting 16/8. I am on average a OMAD, except when I snack. I take in a green smoothie most days of the week. When I say OMAD that is one meal. I do not eat breakfast nor dinner. I only eat lunch and mostly take in that smoothie before the window closes. It's getting colder outside, but that doesn't prevent my hikes. When it gets warmer come spring, I'll simply shift my hikes earlier in the morning when there's greater daylight.

I was on a plateau and began Intermittent fasting 16/8 and the weight started to drop again. Also focusing on exercising 40 minutes or so most days of the week and drinking my water. Best wishes for this upcoming month and look forward to seeing your results in February.

Hi Val, I know how you feel. I was doing so well from October to now and then Christmas came. My husband loves to bake and I just stopped with the weight loss. I'm going to start back on January 4th with a 4:3 fast. I did that at the beginning of December and I did really well with that. I know that I'm going to have to cut my carbs down as low as I can. We can do this!!

You are the Real Deal, Val. Thank you for your honesty and your presentation. For me, it's helpful to see someone who is open with their experiences and feelings. We don't want to feel enslaved by dieting even though we know we have to take control of of bad habits. Talking about your feelings is So helpful. You do it in a way that is not shaming your viewer. You don't shame yourself either. You are just expressing facts and intentions. It's a sensible, adult conversation. Thank you. Happy New Year to you Ron and your family.

I have decided to hire a trainer. Plus I’m literally eating everything from my garden and having shrimp as protein.

Cutting out all the sugary foods and salt you will be amazed how the weight will fall off. This means breads, rice, potatoes etc... incorporate 90% green leafy vegetables that way you don't go hungry and good fats this is very very hard to do in the beginning however over a very short time it becomes natural. Lime in your water is very good for the body. I do fast one day out the week because I know fasting helps to heal the body, I don't fast to loose weight. I wish I could fast longer, maybe I could I just never really tried. I think in this new year I will try a 2day fast every week. I did say try.

U look good. I thought u were going to look bigger. I am going to start walking 30 minutes everyday, stop eating after 6 pm, try & cut sodas, chips, junk out of my diet, which r major problems for me. Right now starting on Jan 1, that's my plan. What do u think 🤔

Can you do a *JANUARY CHALLENGE* , and LIST how many CRUNCHES. LUNGES, etc.. we should do EACH DAY? Even if you can't post daily... just tell us the reps of each type to do daily THEN when you do post, we can virtually 'check in' on our PROGRESS. -WE NEED *YOU* AS OUR *ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER*
