Growing Up With Strict Parents...
Today we talk about strict parents, having strict parents is truly a struggle, my parents weren't super strict but they were a little bit, and sometimes that can be a good thing.

I hate strict parents. That sort of authoritarian parenting isn’t love, it generally fosters resentment and rebellion. The only silver lining is if the kids grow up to never trust authority, and in this day and age it’s more important than ever not to trust or listen to authority.

For real. I always thought that saying was so stupid. I remember as a kid doing some chore and asking my dad why we do certain things in a way that was out of curiosity, and he told me not to question it (not that *my* parents were strict but they have their weird decisions). It’s like it makes you not want to do it because what’s the point?

I am disabled due to an accident that happened at 2, so when I was younger, my parents went much easier on me than my siblings, until I was 10, when they just decided that without any amount of warning, I had to do the exact same chores as them, with zero prep or learning how to do. I eventually learned how to do it, but it wasn’t easy as my disability made it just harder. I’m glad that they decided to get me on the same level as my siblings, but I wish they did it more incrementally instead. And actually taught me how to do it.

I grew up with pretty chill parents (somewhat spoiled, but they broke me of that). The entirety of growing up I would always question other kids parents and their flawed logic. Just like some of the examples in your video, some rules do not make any sense, even as a child I could see that. Honestly I think some parents just get off on having that power and control.

My parents had a different approach to strictness where they basically ran my whole schedule and somehow normalised it in my head that it’s normal to have extensive parental control over my life. Like Birdie, “little bitch” doesn’t even begin to describe my attitude towards the whole thing. At 25 I am doing okay in life and I definitely achieved some things, but some if them were for all the wrong reasons (mostly to appeal and appease), and some of them in direct rebellion. I recently went through what I would call “mind wipe”, where I had to reevaluate and reinvent my system of values to get out of the burnout, depresaion and obesity hole I found myself in, largely because I continued on the familiar path of appealing and appeasing rather than seeking out my own happiness. Why am I writing this? Strict parenting, applied wrong, can really wreck a kid and put them on a self-destructive path. It can also instill resentment and anti-social habits. I now have a good relationship with both of my parents because I let go of the past and they let go of any illusions of control over my life, but I imagine not everyone is this lucky. Amazing video, and to anyone reading this, I hope you are well :)

I got into my first job almost 2 months ago as a cashier at food lion. The majority of the time it is "Hi how are you today" "Good" and sometimes people will ask how I am. I do try and spark convo's by asking "How has your day been?" but even then that usually just gets a "Good" out of people.

4:40 When I was growing up, if I started arguing with my mother and/or talking rudely to her too much my Dad would yell at me to stop. If I persisted he would yell a 2nd time, and if I persisted after that and I was a little kid he would spank me. If I was older instead of spanking, he would smack me on the head with the back of his hand. He called them limpees. When I was in 2nd or 3rd grade I learned very quickly that if I don't want my dad to smack me on the head with the back of his hand, then I need to stop arguing, stop resisting, and obey everything my parents tell me to do down to a square T as soon as he starts yelling.

The thing that's really stupid is that it teaches the kid to just go along and not question anything, to the point where they can barely defend themselves in an argument, like seriously wtf is wrong with some people.

BURDIE PLZ READ. FYI: (I'M 12 IN 7TH GRADE) So my story is that my parents don't let me play videogames, I always feel bad when my friends ask what console I have, and usually conversations go like this with my friends: *friends talking about video games, "Hey, do you play on PS5?" Me:"tf is that?" "Xbox?" Me: no "PC?" "No" "switch?" "No" "then what do you play on?" "Play what?" "Videogames" "I don't play videogames" "ask your parents for a PC or a console""bro it's not that easy I'm not allowed to", all my neighbors are senior citizens, I never had a sleepover. Me and my dad both have $50 Motorola pures which work really good and my mom has an iPhone 6s. The popular girls are always like "what phone do you have" me:"Motorola""wtf is that ask your parents for an iPhone 15" so then since I'm in tech, I search it up and it's $1500 on sale for a Chinese piece of metal. Our family has no uncles, aunts, grandparents, cousins available. Sad part it their alive but don't care about us and we can barely get food on the table let alone a $1500 iPhone 15. My dad couldn't afford a birthday gift for me and he gets paid 200k a year. But that's the dark side of living in California. Speaking of which, I'm not allowed to get below an A on anything school related. (My mom's Russian and my dad is gen x american) also, I am a star at baseball, probably because me and my dad built a batting cage and bought a pitching machine and we have no days off. In my family "relax" and "chill" don't exist. On weekends we usually do yardwork, work on cars, practice baseball and anything that needs to get done. I usually dress in goofy clothes to school because that's all I can afford. I get bullied by popular girls in my elective because I'm poor but I have to just let it slide. Speaking of which, my mom yelled at me because I got a $3 drink at jack in the box. I would have a lot better KZbin channel, but I don't have enough storage on my phone to have videos. So yeah, that's it, just wanted to say it. You can make a video or mention this in a video if you want. Sorry it's long that 3am motivation kicked in.

I’ll never forget how in elementary school I asked my friend for their number so we can continue talking after school but then they said “oh I don’t have a phone” and I thought that everyone had one so I was like “oh that’s weird” I’d just say the first thing that comes to my mind 😭
