I think you should have done a 3rd round where you tried starting behind him again but instead of trying to stay behind him you use that opportunity to safely eject. That seems like the only winning strategy.

They same happened to the Jordanian pilot during the fight against ISIS where the F16 pilot ejected and got captured and later on killed. This happened to the Su27 pilots who ejected after being downed by a AIM 120 missile fired from a TurAF F16 after allegedly violated Turkish Airspace, the ejected pilots got killed by soldiers on the ground again.

Yeah, most Russian aircraft ( Su-30 / Su-35, Su-57) and the French Rafale and Typhoon. The Raptor is maneuverable but it's real strength is stealth and missile advantage. If you're in visual range, you're just another 4th gen fighter waiting to get a heatseeker rammed up your ass. BVR and the Raptor is nearly invincible.

Fun... I was flying the F-16N on active duty and fought an A-4 Superfox from VFC-13. He asked to start 1/2 mile abeam at 200 kias.....which really gave him as good a chance as possible. It took about 30 seconds before I was gunning him. The F-22 would do that to the F-16N!

I think the a4 is still w better looking plane. I love the look of the older planes. F14 and 15 ,16 etc. I don’t think the new stealthy planed look anything near as good. I know that makes no difference at all in life and death situation but I’d hate to be blown up in an ugly plane lol. I detest those new f35s the raf have bought from the USA. lol. Keep the tornadoes their more fun to watch when they come in low over skeggy beach and out to sea. Try the F/A-18 vs A-4 in a gunfight. The RNZAF A-4Ks used to frequently own the RAAF F/A-18As in the dogfighting spectrum.

Yeah. The RNZAF A-4K was the first aircraft in the world to get a “Mig-29 Kill” flying DACT against the Malaysians. The RAAF used to have a minimum altitude limit of 250ft. The RNZAF pilots who typically flew overwater at 50ft used to refer to the Aussies 200ft above as being “way up there, in the stratosphere”

In this you said, "I have a pretty good turn radius," but you forced a two circle (nose-to-tail) fight instead of a one circle (nose-to-nose) fight. If you're going into it with a radius game plan, go one-circle and try to cut across the circle, then reverse on him. I don't think it'll work but it was something that stood out to me.

Given the cost difference of the two jets it would be interesting to see a cost vs cost fight of these two. So some loose googling indicates the f22 is 150-300m each and the f4 is 2-3m each.. Sure the F22 can take 1 F4 down, but what about 80 of them all against it? LOL

I’ll tell you something, as a former active duty Marine Corps fighter pilot that flew F4’s in Vietnam, I have flown A4’s and they are fantastic dog fighters. To fight an F22 you’ll need close in guns! My gut feeling is a good Naval Aviator with over 1,000 hours in an A4 would have a better than 50-50 chance against an F22. SEMPER-FI!

To make this a better fight, this should be the Mongoose version of the A-4. The Mongoose was flown by Top Gun Instructors. It was stripped of weapons and most other gear, and its thrust to weight ratio was slightly greater than unity.

Intriguing, considering that Ex-RNZAF A-4Ks flown by Draken intl frequently participate in DACT with F-22s & F-35s. Admittedly the A-4Ks have integral jammers & APG-66(nz) radar.
