I guarantee that most people who think they have chronic fatigue, actually have depersonalization / dissociation. When they do body control, body sensation techniques, to reconnect the thoughts with the feelings and bodily movements, it will start to feel like you've been awoken from the dead. You'll realize that it was just all in your head, or at least mostly. Because I'm sure if you are dissociated for a long time, you were probably laying in your bed for a long time too, so you have that problem to deal with as well. What happened is that your thoughts became totally disconnected from your bodily movement. You're feelings might have become disconnected from your thoughts as well, if you were more severely dissociated. What you're doing is reconnecting your thoughts with your bodily movement and the feelings. I was trapped in my bed for about 8 months with dissociation depersonalization. A couple or a few times I got up and tried to walk around or you can run around. As I was walking I wanted to run but my body wouldn't do it. I could imagine myself run but when I wanted to sprint off, my body lagged behind. I just kept waiting for a day when I would feel like I had energy and strength to hop out of bed and start moving and doing things.But it never happened. I had to figure out that I was dissociated DP. Dissociation like cutting the fuel line to the engine. I bet this coronavirus is really going to cut people's fuel lines badly. It's going to take them forever to realize that they're actually dissociated and not full of chronic fatigue. But getting back in control of your body, getting that strong sense of the exterior within your own body. That's reattaching all the gears and starting the engine. The reason why you felt like you could barely move was because you essentially disconnected your brain from your body.

@@one9seventy535 well, yeah, that's definitely a great thing. Or something that keeps your mind and body activated, that's why a daily job is healthy if you aren't doing anything else to stay busy. BUT I'm talking about severe depersonalization in which you can't even think enough to get off the ground, per se. You also have to do grounding meditation techniques. Also, the creators of our bodies made it so, that you can't be very evil and also be fully engaged. So you have to take care of your moral philosophies or get right with the Jesus. The New Testament is much more based on real morals, so I would go with that one, if you're choosing religions. Then exercise. Or read books, not comments and articles. Stay busy. Or at least, just keep thinking.

Some meditations can feel very distant and dream-like which can be helpful for some emotions but when having dissociative episodes can just reaffirm the disconnect between me and reality. Instead your voice and the way you spoke was very grounding. It felt more like a friend was walking me through a tough time and I couldn’t be more appreciative.

Thank you so, so much. I've been living in another country and every time I look at a photo or video of my face, or in the mirror, I feel like I'm looking at another person with these big, empty eyes. I feel as if I don't feel. I think the anxiety of everything just made me turn off. Or maybe I've awoken from a long, long sleep of anxiety and a lifetime of people pleasing where I couldn't really explore who I was. I can barely remember a single detail of my life and who I actually am, and your kind words made me realise that my body was just operating on autopilot so it wouldn't get hurt. Thank you for helping me wake up and reconnect. Thank you.

Hi Swamy! Why in derealization people have existential questions? I am a believer of God, but with derealization I questioned God and everything. The way humans look seemed to me strange and that thought scared me. I don't have the symptom anymore but I have some existential absurd thoughts. What can I do my friend? Thank so much for sharing this. Pd: English is not my native language.

Tatiana Sandoval Portella same here! My existential thoughts are really scary and it’s so easy to dwell on them... Scared and anxious mind easily starts to think about these questions because the mind is uncertain. I guess also that it’s minds way to keep the concentration away from the life, when it wants to protect us.

Hello Tatiana, It's a mystery why we have these existential and philosophical thoughts. But rest assured that you are not alone in this. Also, these are not harmful. A lot of times we can think that these thoughts mean there is something wrong with us or we think that we may be losing our minds. None of these are true. Let them come and go. I consider them as an invitation to become more curious about the world and life. This way of thinking reduces the fear around them. You can also choose to see them as nothing but excess mental energy producing all kinds of thoughts. Nothing more than that. Change your relationship to these thoughts and change the way you see them. That will reduce the fear.
@tatianasp785

@@RealSwamyG Thank you so much! I think that these questions appear because the sensations are so new and strange that we ask ourselves what are they, where they come from and those questions trigger bigger existential questions. I am anthropologist and all my life I have been very curious! I think that the only thing that we have to do is wait with patience, doing excercise, eating real food and don't worry too much about those thougths. Now I am fine again. Thank you again Swamy. I read your website, it was very very helpful!

I've had derealization constantly for going on 3 months now. I've tried everything, my medications stopped working abruptly in december. I've been in a psych ward, it didn't help, seen 5 different psychs since december and they're no help. I'm so scared and would rather be dead, but I have a 5 year old son to raise. I can't help him if I'm not mentally here.

I’ve had it for 6 months, but this month it got worse, I switched to a new medication afterwards and idk how to feel, scared and afraid of the future, and idk if I should be on medication, I overcame my anxiety and depression so why need it again? Well I guess it’s cause the paroxetine started to make me feel bad instead of good, so doctor thinks a new med will help but it won’t, cause there’s no med for this crap and I hate it. It’s been constant and really high since July4. I started praying to god about it and meditating yesterday, this is very scary and I honestly don’t know if it’ll go away…

It’s so scary. Mine came from a bad shrooms trip. But it does go away even if it feels like it can’t in the moment. It just takes time and effort. Make sure you’re constantly relaxing yourself and telling yourself it’s just a state of mind. And psychotherapy does help a lot.
