And this scene is why JJ Abrams ST, Discovery, & Picard are terrible. This one scene is what core Star Trek fans love. It's not flashy lights & action scenes but great dialogue and soundtrack. This was the golden era of Trek, damn I miss this.

The way Guinan describes the Nexus in this scene is eerily similar to the way recovering addicts talk about their first high on drugs like heroin or crack. Whoopi Goldberg has dealt with addiction in the past and was clearly channeling some of that experience in her performance here.

Guinan's description of the Nexus is exactly how it felt for me during a dream I had once many years ago. A beautiful beach of white sand that shone under a vast blanket of twinkling stars. I could hear the most beautiful music I could never imagine and I honestly could have stayed there forever. Waking up felt very much like being ripped away from joy and perfection. The only thing that has ever come remotely close to such ideal perfection is when I was in love. Losing both those wonderful gifts is unspeakable

Ever since I was a kid, I've thought about this concept of the Nexus... Sometimes in mindfulness meditation, I feel like I'm in a place described here; wrapped up in joy, time has no meaning, the environment seems to resonate with every cell in your body... in your soul. Than when I wiggle my fingers and open my eyes, I'm back home, longing to be in the Nexus again. I've often thought about death... what if death is that doorway to the Nexus? What if when we die, we each find our own version of the Nexus and get to stay there for all eternity? Something to think about.
@DarkSektori

I actually agree with you, on that note. Perhaps its not such a fantasy. Everything is energy and that’s all there is to it. Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.” --Albert Einstein The Tibetan Book of the Dead suggests that your afterlife is determined by your own beliefs. "There is a passage in the Bhagavad Gita in which Krishna says: “Those who remember me at the time of death will come to me. Do not doubt this. Whatever occupies the mind at the time of death determines the destination of the dying; always they will tend toward that state of being." Think of this way, -if you believe in God then you go to heaven. -if you believe in the Nordic Gods then Valhalla awaits you, -the Greek Gods then you go to Elysian Fields. -if you believe in nothing then you get nothing. What something more outrageous, if you want to be a jedi and fight Darth Vader, (why not?) "may the force be witn you" If they can make it possible on a tv screen why can't your consciousness make it possible in reality? "when nothing is sure, everything is possible --Margaret Drabble "All things are possible until they are proven impossible and even the impossible may only be so, as of now." --Pearl S. Buck "Its better to believe then to disbelieve, in so doing you bring everything into the realm of possibility." --Albert Einstein If this universe is infinite (which it is) and there's multiple dimensions (which there are) if parallel universes exist (quite possible) then yes a place like this could exist somewhere out there. Biocentrism (the Theory of Everything) suggests death isn't even real that you have what's called a natural afterlife, and that your afterlife would be comparable to an endless lucid dream. Just because Science says things like this are impossible dosen't mean they are. -Science at one said that the sound barrier could never be broken, they were wrong -Science said heavier then air flight was impossible they were wrong -Spaceflight -Nuclear energy -PCs and the internet -Warm Superconductors -Black Holes -Creating force fields -Invisibility (hiding from time itself) Teleportation (Quantum Entanglement) -Bioengineering -Nanotechnology -Being able to tie light into knots -Objects that evolve themselves -Being able to stop light dead in its tracks -Making antimatter in a lab -Telepathy -Nothing can go faster than light -Objects being able to do 2 things at the same time -cellphones -electric light bulbs -automobiles -organ transplants All of these were said to be impossible at one time until they were proven to be possible.

Think about this, if humanity was just a random accident or coincidence then why are there 6 billion of us currently? Because that's alot of random accidents happening in one place (this rock we live on) don't you think? If Science rejects that this universe is of intelligent design (no creator or creators) how did Science itself into existence then? And if Science is random accidental occurrence then why the hell are we even using it to explain everything to begin with, what would be the point? There's a reason for all this, believing in an Oblivion is a default answer if there ever was one, how does non-existentse exist? If our Consciousness dissappears upon death and Conciousness is un-observable then how does something that's un-observable disappear? But Science is convinced that Dark Energy and Dark Matter exists even its un-observable (warning hypocrisy alert) Science attacks religion and spirituality due to the lack of scientific evidence. Faith is the belief in something regardless if there's no scientific evidence. Oblivion will never be proven to exist because of the lack of evidence how is this any different then saying a God created everything? The only thing Nothingness can create is more Nothingness. Sorry I'm rambling, its just I find this kind of stuff fascinating and how the film tapps into the subject of creating your own afterlife/eternity. You mentioned that you've been thinking about this concept well why do you think we have the power of imagination to begin with? This applies to dreaming as well, and science has yet to explain the purpose of why we dream and what mechanisms cause them to occur. Oblivion even if it did exist, is not eternal, its simply a temporary state of unconsciousness as you travel from one state of consciousness to another, like waking up after surgery when the Anesthesia wears off. Having no memory of anything before your birth can be explained, since memories are based on specific Quantum arrangements and when you die everything becomes scattered or disorganized and because there's no human brain to sort out and file away memories and knowledge that you possess, everything just gets scrambled, think of it as a sort of interdimensional form of Amnesia. These memories aren't lost forever it's just going to be a lengthy slow process, but thats no big deal at that point because time becomes completely irrelevant.

@@DarkSektori I really like your thinking. I also get caught in similar thoughts of consciousness and reality. I believe my soul is eternal just as God is eternal. Can I prove this? No, but I believe there can be a good strong logical argument for it. The other day while I was at a baseball game, my thought process slowly turned to the moment in time that I found myself in. I began to be amazed by all the events that have taken place to lead up to me sitting in that seat and observing a baseball game in the 21st century. How many billions or maybe even trillions of people have lived on this Earth and this is the first time in all of history that my consciousness was able to find a body of its own and look out behind my eyes as an observer. The more I thought about this mystery, the deeper I fell into serious contemplation and amazement over it. I cannot accept that we are all just accidents and our number just came up in a Monte Carlo game. There's too much organization to the universe to suggest we're all accidents. Yes there's chaos, but there's a certain imbalance as far as the natural laws go that allow us to be who we are. If everything was in true homeostasis which nature tends to lean towards, then we wouldn't be here. There would be an equal amount of elements and particles and chemicals in every part of the universe until there is no imbalance. The true goal of physical and natural laws is to become completely balanced. But life is anything but balanced. No, we are not her by accident.

@@TheBeardedSandman There's not one single God that created everything in my opinion if anything There's many more then that, especially given the infinite size of the universe. But what I stated before about your beliefs determining your afterlife then so be it. So if you believe in one God? then that's what you'll get. There's no right or wrong religion or spiritual beliefs. I believe that there are many entities involved in this universe's creation. And that's what my afterlife will be, not sure what exactly my destiny will be, but eventually ill find one that ill be content with, becoming a God, while that might seem awesome it's also going to be hard work taking on the responsibility for being your own creator. Its not a requirement but also remember in your afterlife you can become god, you are the creator and you possess the power to create your own universe if you wanted to. I also believe that there's multiple dimensions (10) and ill describe them. We already know the first 3 (length, width and height) Time is the 4th dimension The Probability of other Universes existing is the 5th dimension All possible Universes branch out from the same starting point. For example if our universe came from the big bang then all other universes were created under those same conditions.This is the 6th dimension. All possible spectrums of Universes with different start conditions is the 7th dimension. Meaning there's a universe where Gravity repells instead of attracts, a Universe where fire is cold instead of hot, a Universe where Magic is real, a Universe where light speed is faster and a Universe where its slower. Basically every Universe will have different sets of limitations, the Laws of Physics could be completely different in one Universe and a Universe with no rules or restrictions whatsoever. A plane where all possible Universes have different start conditions is the 8th dimension Direct movement from one multiverse to another non-adjacent multiverse with different start conditions is the 9th dimension. Infinite Possibilities is the 10th dimension This is your eternity This is your Nexus "so to speak," obviously not the Nexus in the film, but it shares the same concept, meaning its whatever you wish it to be. Only with this its not a mere illusion its your reality that you create. Though if you wanted it to be the Nexus from the movie then so be it.

How could Guinan throw down on Q? I will explain it. Guinan is split between two universes, the micro energy ribbon universe and the prime universe, however she is in superposition with both aware of her self, her memories and thoughts in both universes, Guinan wasn't only split by a transporter that tried to beam her away from the energy ribbon she's is qauntum entangled like two particals that are in super position where communication between them is instant no matter how far apart they are, within the energy ribbon universe, anything you imagine will manafest, Guinan explains, this to Picard, you can go back in time or move forward into the future and explore a future where you had children, what Guinan was showing Picard, is the unimaginable power of the energy ribbons ability to manafest reality, connected to her counterpart and both Guinan's sharing the same consciousness over A vast distance due to being in super position like a telepathic link, both Guinans have access to the manafesting powers of the energy ribbon due to occupying the same space and consciousness accross two universes via being in super position, this means Guinan on the Enterprise has the manafest powers of the energy ribbon and could have definitely thrown down on Q like a Boss, it also explains how she retained her memory of Tasha's death, because Her energy ribbon counterpart exists protected from changes in time within the prime universe because the energy ribbon is it's own micro universe with it's own time continuety.

@@MPeaches1958 logically that would be a basis of polar opposites and pacifism. You could think of the Q as being her mortal enemy. The Borg, although seemingly malevolent, are not. They are just one more species. Toward the Q, she will become violent as they could be seen as mortal enemies whereas to all other non omnipotent beings, she's a pacifist.
@scotthannan8669
@scotthannan8669 4 жыл бұрын
It’s far more likely that this is an ability inherent in all of her species, and it only works with Q because maybe Q ultimately are using mental powers to shape reality. After all, the Traveler said that Wesley had the ability to do many things that he didn’t realize, with the assumption being that Wesley was just more mentally capable than most humans. There are many species more intelligent than humans, but humans generally seem to have a medium temperament in the Star Trek universe. Not too violent, not too peaceful, just right in the middle. And it is potentially visibility to see both sides that would give a hyper intelligent human some kind of advantage over a more strident intellect of another race. Guinan often seems to be one of the more thoughtful characters in the show and potentially this is a kind of discernment that gives the Q continuum some difficulty since they cannot manipulate the reality of people who can see past the here and now.

This movie was deffinitely underrated. I love the part where Riker said "FIRE" and blew Lursa and B'Etor out of the sky. Unknown to Riker his Klingon friend (Lieutenant Klag) was killed in the process. Also, Malcolm McDowell is Alexander Siddig's uncle in real life. Alexander Siddig's real birth name is: (Siddig El Tahir El Fadil El Siddig Abdurrahman Mohammed Ahmed Abdel Karim El Mahdi). I have never heard a name that long in my life!

Was it Lt.Klag or just the actor Brian Thompson reprising a role as a Klingon? He def. looks the part!! That's a name, who does he think he is a 40K Custodian!?!? :D If that was my name I'd have to move to Wales, to the town called ""Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch''; just to F with the postal service!!! >XD

Um.. so Guinan is in the start of the movie being resuced by the Enterprise-B. Then she's in the middle to explain it. And then... uh... we never see her again. Nor future movies?? Was she one of the "our casualites were light" that Picard said? I mean, they don't even mention her. She plays a major role about the Nexus! I was at least hoping for a "You made it back, Picard." - "Yes, in part thanks to you. And also in part from a new friend I met along the way. Sadly lost but never forgotten." The ONLY comfort I take, is that her "echo" of her remains in the Nexus and Kirk's echo too? Maybe? I dunno. Frustrating. Just my thoughts.

I think it's intriguing how both picard and kirk get pulled away from the Nexus. Picard gets pulled away because of his sense of duty of the lives at stake. Kirk gets pulled away because there isn't any risk he can't exist without the risk of failure he needs it to be real to feel real.

Seriously. As soon as he jumps that crevice and feels no fear, he instantly realizes how bored and unhappy he will be in the Nexus. James Kirk simply can't live a life without any risk or danger in it. It's what gets him out of bed in the morning.

The movie makes an interesting point though - if you live in a reality in which there is no time, you always get everything you want, and there's never any sense of risk or danger, you may (like Picard and Kirk) feel like nothing you do actually matters or has any meaning at all. Which could be depressing in itself.

She would have done anything, anything to go back. She believes that's Soran's intent and yet doesn't seem even slightly interested in maybe joining him I'm curious as to whether if Guinan knew of Soran's plan and knew that it work and she could go back, whether or not she would join him? Yes a planet and its people would be destroyed, but then you'd be in the Nexus and it wouldn't bother/concern you!

This Nexus though is an interesting concept. Anything you've wanted to experience you can. Your dreams, your imagination it can be as real as you want it to be, imagine writing your own story, or reliving the best happiest moments of your life, being reunited with lost loved ones. Its the closest thing to paradise possible. But there's no God to determine this, Its your eternity, your afterlife, your "everything". I can't think of anyone with a sound mind that would reject the opportunity to experience this endless sea of possibilities. To be honest and perhaps people will laugh when I say this. Who says that it's impossible for a place like this to exist in another dimension perhaps, or a higher realm of consciousness like this. To be able to choose your own eternity. Screw the 3 wishes crap, the only limits that would exist would be that of your own imagination, the only power that would be relevant is the power that’s within you. You're the creator of your own universe your own reality, not some invisible douchebag who's ass you must kiss to find eternal peace and happiness, unless that's what you want, but its not a requirement, requirements don't exist. Even if someone was a bad person in their life they could now redeem themselves without begging for mercy or pleading for forgiveness, unless that's what they want. Because if the universe is infinite and or parallel universes exist, then its completely possible, if the universe has multiple dimensions which is highly possible then the possibilities are endless. The Tibetan Book of the Dead suggests that your afterlife is determined by your own beliefs. You no longer have to worry about choosing the wrong religion or spiritual beliefs, there's no longer right or wrong answers its "all or none of the above". There's no stupid divine plan that forces you to walk on egg shells your whole life. If you made mistakes in life or wished you could things differently then here's your rewind button, your 2nd chance. String Theory suggests at least 10 dimensions exist with the 10th dimension being infinite possibilities. If it can be proven mathematically then anything can exist quite literally.
