Roasted radishes are a wonderful low carb substitution for potatoes. The texture is very similar and their peppery taste mellows significantly when roasted. Best of all, the carb count is a fraction of potatoes at only 4g net carbs per half pound.
In this video, I season the radishes with "gunpowder", an Indian spice blend, and serve them with raita, an Indian cream sauce. The result is a spicy, tangy, creamy, and delicious side dish that you can use when you have a craving for potatoes.

Daikon Radishes would be amazing for this. One of them give you a TON of slices and easy to wrangle with a mandolin before boiling. I use the a lot for scalloped faux-tato recipes.

Crazy, they even look like little red potatoes. ❤ Probably my most missed food... I've just been air frying my radishes, then popping them into my dutch oven with a pot roast (with a Carrot cut into coins, & a couple of Pepperoncini). Hits the comfort food spot.

Radishes are so under-utilised and so under-rated! We grow loads but no one really likes them raw here. We roast loads and pickle the rest, they have a lovely unique flavour I add to seaweed wraps and hot-sour soup

I love this idea! I have also stir-fried radishes in my skillet with cauliflower rice for added color. Now for a Southern Style recipe... Corned Beef Hash with diced radishes instead of potatoes! This is very tasty, just don't add salt. The meat has enough. It makes a great substitute for hash browns as well... Add onions and garlic, then sautéed.

I made this recipe and the sauce and I wasn't too impressed with it. I didn't really get a good crisp. It was a fair amount of work for a small amount of food. But in all fairness I have to say that these flavors are not a favorite flavor profile of mine generally....so that is naturally going to affect how much I enjoyed the flavors, It just looked so good when you made it I was inspired to make it.

Please do a turnip potato salad... it does taste just like potatoes. Dice and cook turnips well done and drain. Cut up boiled eggs, onions, celery and add celery seed. Make a sweet dressing with mayo, splash of vinegar, sweetener of choice... I use Stevia and some heavy whipping cream... add dressing to all of above! You will think you are eating carb loaded potatoes! I've made it twice recently... you won't regret it! Radishes retain too much water for me to get the mouth feel of potatoes.... but turnips satisfied my mouth feel with my faux potato salad recipe.. hope you try it! 🙂

Looks really interesting. I may try 1) using daikon...one radish goes a long way, and easy to cut to uniform thickness, 2) there's gotta be a quick instant pot alternative to boiling, and 3) air frying seems like a time saver as well. I'm wondering if the smashing thing is essential to making the texture less like radish? Oh, and on the potato topic, my fave for mashed potatoes is using the "Mashed Potatoes" variety of acorn squash, for which seed is now widely available. So worth growing. My tips: don't let the squash get too ripe, and don't cure the squash for storage. Either of these allows the squash to get sweeter, which makes them no longer taste like potatoes. After picking, get to cooking (or freezing) within a few days, and for texture don't go crazy with an immersion blender or similar...this makes the texture too fine and results in a non-potato-like mouthfeel. Sometimes I just use a fork to "whip" it into my mashed "potatoes". Carb count? Who knows? But it's gotta be a lot better than potatoes, especially if you don't allow the squash to develop sugars.
