@growleym504 Жыл бұрын
Even faster, if you have an 1858, is preloading a couple of spare cylinders. With practice you can do a tactical reload in about 5 seconds. Just remember that the Uberti and Pietta cylinders are not cross compatible. Whichever maker, use that maker's cylinders. Also, I usually don't use paper cartridges but when I do, I like to poke a flash hole in the end. On rare occasion the cap will not burn through the paper. If you poke a hole, a bit of powder naturally spills out while loading, and ignition is pretty certain.

without a patch or filling with lube, is just dipping the bullet/balls enough to reliably keep chain fires from occurring?

I found that using the stick as a guide when cutting the paper that by cutting it into thirds you get a near prefect fit and only have to trim the top. Additionally, my flask has a long neck which allows it to automatically measure 25 units of powder, thus letting me skip the step of having to use the measure which is built in. Otherwise this kit works as advertised and has almost no learning curve to it, allowing me to knock out 24 rounds easily and with only two mess ups, both happening when I was wrapping the paper around the rod at the start. Score yourself a plastic .45 caliber bullet case to store the finished cartridges in - you can get a really nice one at Academy sports that holds 50 rounds for just $3 with a lid that snaps on tightly and doesn't allow them to rattle around and potentially get damaged.

@BogeyTheBear3 жыл бұрын
Paper should scrub out as easily as the fouling. What you might have to look out for is a ring of unburnt paper left behind in the chamber. I've heard of that sort of debris being found inside the chamber, but I guess that depends on the paper you use or particular gun models. Care should be taken during reloading to make sure no paper in the cylinder is still smouldering hot enough to ignite the new cartridge/powder charge. Visually inspect chambers, blow them out, or wait long enough until any sparks have burned away.
