Hi Mathew, love your cooking techniques. I just tried your recipe today for plait bread and the only thing I didn't have was crisco, so I used 2 tablespoons of "Kelapo Ghee". Hi again Chef Mathew! I wanted to give an update to my first comment. I only had rapid rise yeast, so I mixed all the other ingredients, then added half a pack of the DRY rapid rise yeast (1 teaspoon) to the mix and this time I used 1 tablespoon of ghee instead of 2, and warm water to form dough. Then after kneeding just the same as before, I made my plait and let it sit for about an hour and baked for the same 25 mins at 350*. It came out perfect and no different than the first way. I read that you do not have to proof rapid rise yeast (only active dry) nor let rise two times which saved a little time for if you're in a rush. Thank you again!

Hi Matthew! Lovely reciepe! Was wondering salted or unsalted butter? Sometimes it's confusing bc there's so much butter out there. Thanks in advance 👍

Nice video! 👍🏿 If I wanted to make 2 loaves of bread, how would I multiply this recipe? Should mix everything together and divide the dough before or after rising? Or should I make the two loaves separately? Thank you
@matthewsguyanesecooking4601
@matthewsguyanesecooking4601 6 жыл бұрын
You can mix and double everything in the same bowl. And once it's done rising, you can split the dough into 2 loaves.

I have updated my recipe. I no longer use baking powder. Some people add because it adds a different texture to the bread too.

My mom & I were looking for a recipe similar to my grandma and this is exactly it! We used RAPID DRY yeast which skipped the step of letting it set etc...and just added it all together but this came out perfect. So good and soft. Perfect guyanese plait bread!

For those, like me, who didn’t know what plait bread is, it just means braided. Challah is the traditional example. I though it had something to do with the dough, but alas, it’s just braid. Nearly any dough can be plaited, or braided. Wish our host would provide a little better culinary definition or history than just the internet definition of plait bread for those of us ignoramuses in his audience.

It is definitely like challah bread! In the Guyanese community its called “plait bread” or “Guyana bread”.
