Wow - 12 years later and Khorkina's floor still is amazing, that is really a performance and not just a simple floor routine with tumbling in it (like most of today's gymnastics). I think she was the only girl at that time who could pull off that music and choreo without looking over the top

Khorkina was supposed to take the all around here. I remember being 16 at the time and I knew she was supposed to win the all around. The vault fiasco fucked that up. She worked very hard. And to know that the FIG didn't compensate for anything. And stop the competition as they should. It's such a sham. She tried for 2004 but I am sure for malice against the FIG but benevolence for the sport and herself. Queen! Slay!

I really dislike her bad sportsmanship, but seriously what would modern gymnastics be without Khorkina?? She was always amusing (see her reactions to the other Russians in the 2000 vault EF..) and was so creative. She created so many groundbreaking new moves and had endless grace and elegance.

In 2004 Khorkina was very underscored on vault and floor so I don't blame her for feeling that way...9.462 for a stuck vault with a 9.90 start value. Please.

It wasn't stuck. And it was also the highest scoring vault in the entire competition.

i agree... she was great, but a lot of the good things she did for the sport are shadowed by her attitude.

@AndreeaRaducan4Eva If Sveta had been trained by Bela, she had been injured on the second day, he overtrained his gymnasts (Comaneci 76, Retton 83, Durham 84, Zmeskal and Okino 92, Moceanu and Strug 96, all of them werent at their 100% or injured

Does anyone know what the deduction was for Elise Ray performing the same vault again? I assume there was a deduction for repeating the vault, as well as doing a different vault than the number said. Plus the fall, of course. Given her average, she scored a 6.462 I believe on her second vault. The fall only accounts for .5--I assume the other deductions were mandatory ones as well, but that is a seriously low score.

The vault is scored by three different things: The preflight, the block and the landing. Preflight is simple enough, it must be completed and you must make contact with the horse for it to be considered an attempt. The block is the actual contact with the apparatus and the twist and flips and then the landing. So based on her two vaults, she didn't get a good block, and as a result had poor form in the air and didn't stick the landing. In fact with that first one, she took multiple steps and still sat down. Which those all added up. For the second vault, same problems, but she was also supposed to do a different vault. Instead she did the same vault as the first, and was severely penalized.

Svetlana Khorkina is ridiculously overscored. Come on, she is gracious and that's it. Besides, she was the first to root for Raducan's medal to be taken away.Not fair play at all, she doesn't know the meaning of fair play, far from it. Mean, mean person.

I don't know what she said about Raducan losing her medal in such an unjust way, but although of course the vault fiasco is travesty, she also fell off bars. I understand she was emotionally overtaken but a fall is a fall. And Andrea did not fall, she was more consistent and thus she won the AA title.

@@soledadferrer1325 She also fell in Team Finals when there were no vault problems. She's putting a lot of blame on the vault. Yeah it messed with her, I'm sure. But what happened in the finals then?
