Q: Does gyro aim have Aim-Assist?
A: Ideally, no. Aim-Assist can feel like a magnet against your inputs while using gyro. Since gyro is a mouse, most games don’t even allow for aim assist, but if you are emulating an analog stick instead of a mouse, aim-assist can be activated, if you so choose.

Have you also tried flick stick on pc? it is diffult at first but when you get good at it, it is better then gyro + analog sticks. The flickstick setup uses mouse pixel per rotation. The new gyro update even uses the same pixel value from flick stick instead of the % based one in the previous steam gyro mouse mode. But the new gyro implementation on steam is still in beta. The new update uses more filters to completly pauze the gyro when no movement of the controller is detected by steam.

@@caleasthetic Flick stick is good for multiplayer games, but sometimes you want the slow panning of analog sticks in a single player setting. It helps you take in the environment.

I'm primarily a mouse player for aiming-based games, but in some games like God of War having gyro is awesome. Combat's awkward with mnk, but it demands aiming the axe and bow which is very awkward with a stick too.

This is the BEST explanation of the Gyro Orientation mode and what it actually changes. Showing how you are holding it IRL really helps and was what was really lacking from previous explanations/illustrations I saw. Awesome video! I've been using gyro since MWII's native implementation on PS5 in 2022, though my first real exposure to the concept was Killzone 2 on PS3 (snipers only). I got used to it very quickly in both of those games, and have been recommending people try it ever since MWII and using it whenever possible. As of late, I've been mostly using reWASD to force gyro on most of my PC games, using my Scuf Reflex (dualsense). Gyro is also great for adapting Mouse and Keyboard only games like Ready Or Not and Escape From Tarkov to controller! So while I'm no stranger to the concept and use, I appreciate your thorough overview and detailed insight into the advanced configurations. I hope it encourages many more people to try it, and more developers to implement it correctly. 🍻

Love this channel. I wish more people knew that Gyro + TrackPads works very well on Dualsense too. Touch triggers gyro which allows for Gyro Racheting, and the Square button is accessible with your right thumb on the Touchpad (which is two inputs under one thumb!). I use this in replacement of the right analog stick in CS2 and it works amazingly.

Love this video, would love to see more deep dives into the tools for all of this. For example, I can't find a tutorial relating to the "Gyro to Joystick" beta that Steam Input has right now, and I would love to be able to understand what exactly is going on there for games that don't handle switching between controller and kb/m inputs well, like Dragon's Dogma or Palworld. KZbin doesn't have a lot of good and up to date videos about how gyro works. It also doesn't have a lot of good info about the controllers themselves, such as how the Sony controllers tend to have a higher polling rate than the Switch controllers, resulting in smoother and cleaner gyro aiming. People like myself who suffer a wrist injury resulting in the inability to comfortably use a mouse for aiming but want to be able to play at the same tier would really appreciate having more info. Also, there are ways to share steam input profiles, you should totally post links to them in the description!

I'm glad you like it! I haven't made a video about Gyro to Joystick because I've never been able to make it feel right. Gyro to Joystick seems to have many limitations that make it a miserable experience. But maybe one day I will figure it out. You can count on this channel to always give you up to date info about how gyro works, and controller reviews that actually cover important things for gyro players. I used to leave a link to my configs on all of my game specific videos, but those links seem to break every so often, so instead I teach people how to import my configs while showing off the name of the configuration.

Gyro controllers are the perfect marriage of analog for accurate movement, and gyro for accurate aiming. Mouse and keyboard locks you to binary digital inputs, Xbox and pre-8th-gen controllers are awful for 3D aiming and take a long time to get used to

I remember playing Doom 2016 on the Switch and trying out gyro controls. I actually really liked it. It wasn't perfect but i liked it much more then the typical analoge stick only setup.

A month back my Series X broke and I switched to PS4 to play Fortnite. While that version chugs, the gyro pretty much made it bearable to play on it. Now that my SX is fixed, I TRULY miss the gyro aiming. I think considering players using an Xbox controller primarily for PC, we may need to rally people to push Microsoft to add native gyro support on the Xbox controller. Gyro has been a must for me since using it on Breath of the Wild on the Wii U (Yes, Wii U).

Akshually, gyros have been widely available since 2006 with the PS3 controller and 2008 with Wiimotion Plus, it's just that the Wii's casual image tainted them in the eyes of many "hardcore gamers"

Trackpad and gyroscope sensor are the most un used features in the dualsence and dualshock controllers. I think by using tap and double tap gestures on the track pad the gyro pause and aim repositioning can be implemented

Touchpad is probably the most unused feature due to placement. Cannot really hold the controller normally and have access to the touchpad at all times. Good enough for navigation but not good for quick actions

@@Ryochan7 Yes you're right using trackpad to precisely aim is not really feasible due to positioning. But a touch gesture(basically putting your thumb on it) on the trackpad can be used to stop the gyro effect, which will be really useful for gyro ratcheting

What pro controllers can you suggest with gyro? I've kind of been spoiled by pro controllers with a ton of extra inputs, mouse click triggers or trigger stops as well as mouseclick face buttons. Unfortunately none of the three controllers I have used on my PC have gyro. Any solid controllers you can suggest to me?

I usually don't recommend any kind of third party controllers, because the ones that I tested weren't good enough. So the only pro controller that I can safely recommend is the DualSense Edge. It's crazy expensive tho, but it has the best gyro in the market.

Steam doesn't have accel curves yet. You can use acceleration but there are only 3 pre-made curves on the gyro settings.

I do love Gyro, and it's different versions, but I wish games that we're dominant with controller aim assist we're playable in balanced terms for Gyro and mouse users, a game with controller aim assist just makes it so overpowered it ends up being stronger and easier to use with less effort, as a mouse player I avoid so many games because of this, my shooter games have dwindled down to like 3 or 4 games and most of them are more than a decade old That's my biggest problem with Gyro BF2042? Aim assist is easier Halo? Aim Assist is the way to go in regard to the effort you have to put in COD: Genuinely Aim Bot levels of aim assist, your just crutching yourself using anything else doing Gyro in games we're your up against controller players just means you have to put in more effort for the same amount of precision, same goes for mouse, it's why I don't play most modern shooters any more All I want is Input Based Matchmaking, and game studios HATE IT.

Is there any way we can know how good a gyro sensor is for a controller? Any resource? Do you compare them mostly by just Hz? I have a DualShock 4 and a Steam Controller. I like the Steam's layout more, but I've been playing the last months on the DS4 to see how it goes. It felt like the Steam's gyro was worse, but I'm unable to tell, and there's too many subjective opinions out there. Maybe it's time you made a controller guide! haha

Haha, it's true. But the answer is more straightforward than it seems. To my knowledge, there are basically 2 things that makes a good gyro controller: 1. Polling rate 2. The implementation done by the manufacturer. I haven't tested any third party controller that didn't leave this part to be desired, so I avoided mentioning these concepts on this video because any first party controller with gyro will work well enough. The only real difference being the polling rates. If I remember correctly, steam controller has the lowest polling rate, Switch controllers and Dualshock4 have 250hz and the DualSense has 500hz.

Also no flick stick on Steam's haha, I think the layout for the Steam Deck might be the best, hope some day we'll see the Steam Controller 2 :(

I tried using both Yaw + Roll and Local Space in steam's configurator, and I really can't find a difference no matter what positions I tried. What's actually different about Local Space?

They are all local space. What happened is that Steam used to have only local space, so "yaw", "roll" and "yaw+roll" are just presets for local space. Now, with the new updates, there is the new "Local Space" option that gives you freedom to choose how much yaw and roll will impact your movement. The examples on the video are just that, examples of what can be done with local space, since most games don't give you the same freedom that Steam does.

Microsoft needs to make gyro part of x-input already. I hate having to choose between a switch controller (no analog triggers, COME ON NINTENDO) and xbox (no gyro). PS5 controllers work, but there just don't seem to be any 3rd party PlayStation controllers and I'm not impressed with the PS5 controller itself. I think a quality controller made with the Playstation protocol would be perfect for PC. Not sure why a company like 8-bit-do doesn't do that.

I have the Gulikit controller and, honestly, it's pretty nice. The gyro doesn't feel top notch, but it does work well with Steam Input when configured as the pro controller. The Steam Deck has it better though.

Unfortunately, that's pretty much it. You need to change all the bindings to keyboard and mouse inputs, or (if the game allows you) force one UI or the other.

Mixed inputs can be a problem depending on the game. Pretty much have to choose between emulating either MnK or virtual controller in that case.

NEED HELP: I'm trying to play Witcher 3 using gyro. In Steam, I chose gyro 'as Mouse' option. While the gyro works fine in-game, but the keybindings shown on-screen keep switching from controller to keyboard key bindings. For example, it displays on screen - 'Jump - Space' initially, but when I touch any buttons on the controller, it shows the corresponding button for the controller, and then it keeps switching back to keyboard keybindings on-screen.

This is a common problem with games with mixed inputs. There is no solution, some games allow you to lock one UI over the other, either by activating this on the settings of the game or changing game files. You can: Ignore it, bind every button on the controller to keyboard and mouse, or use gyro as Joystick (it isn't all that bad, it just doesn't feel as good) This is what we have to deal with without native gyro 🤡.

Only using third party accessories, the problem is that sometimes these accessories are considered cheating. The best course of action is to beg for the devs to add this feature into the game. The mobile version has it and it's absolutely incredible.

Great video! Just complementing the list of supported hardware; the PS3 controllers actually also have gyro. It was called sixaxis and was kind of a big deal for sony at the time, but the implementation from most games was so dogshit and lazily done that it just didn't take off. I remember GTA IV for example had it turned on by default, so coupled with the game's already challenging physics controls, hopping on a helicopter for the first time was extremely disorientating, to the point of being even a traumatic experience. This is just an example of how gimmicky it was, and so every game from big publishers at the time would come with it switched on, so it'd be the first thing people'd turn off, leading developers to think people didn't like gyro controls. They did, you just implemented it wrong. Proof of that was the Nintendo Wii. About 10 years later, I'm happy to see it's finally being implemented the right way. If done right at the 7th gen, it'd already be an industry standard for aiming, but oh well, better late than never.

Gyro controllers don't work on mobile devices. Gyro use is exclusive to the device itself, so you can activate gyro on ipad but that won't use the controller's gyro, it will use the ipad's gyro.

Great video, gyro + stick has been very intuitive and effective for me but it's nice to learn about other inventive techniques. I pray Rockstar recognizes the demand for gyro before GTA VI launch because RDR 2 stick aim was horrendous and the game will be console exclusive for a while. Funny how Rockstar used sixaxis for steering boats, bikes, and other finicky unintuitive non-sense since the PS3 but never considered it for aiming even though their gameplay is 90% shooting lmao.

I'm indei developer using unity to be honest I want to experiment with gyro But I haven't find any good tourial for how to add gyro for controller most gyros tourial are for mobile and not controller like ps4 controller's. As for emulit mouse it's teknly option but need to add native gyros support because if don't it not possible 😅 to play 4 players on the same computer and have gyro in all 4 players The game I'm working is multiplayer fps game and I have plan to add the option play local multiplayer and lan online at the same time That means whan I getting there and make the game playble it will taknly able to up to 8 players with 2 computer's I know that game made with keyboard and mouse in mind but the only way to play with 4 players on the same device is at least 3 off Player's to use controllers. So what exactly you recommend in my case ?

@Diabeticgymraticate Warframe on Switch suffers from low unstable frame rates, pixelated low resolution. That's probably why you are feeling motion sick, since it's a very fast game. Gyro only makes these problems more evident. I suggest waiting until you can play on a more powerful platform.

I play COD mobile and I play it using my whole body to move and aim almost like I'm aiming in VR, and I dont know if I'm alone in this but I prefer that feeling and am thinking about getting a steam deck to play games like that. But knowing that tilting and not panning is how gyro works scares me from getting it. I just want to know if I'm alone in this feeling.

Steam input has lots of ways to set it up. I think you’ll be ok! I doubt cod mobile uses panning? I could be misunderstanding. Gyro senses rotation. Accelerometer uses changes in position but is much noisier.

I use the laser pointer setting, and I could be using the wrong word. But I essentially want to be aiming like I would aim IRL. So that it knows its position in both moving it around me like the circumfrence of a circle besides just tilting the whole thing. And essentially aiming only by angles. Not yet. There isn't much reason to use ds4win because Steam is better in every way. Even if the game you're trying to play isn't on steam, you can just add the game as a "non-steam game" or use a program called Glossi. But in any case, if you are having trouble, just ask for help on the Gyro Gaming subreddit, there will be many people to help you! ;D

Hello, I remember seeing a link while doing research about this topic regarding disabling\hiding original controller input from apps but now I can't find it I am positive it wasn't HidHide, trying to play dishonored 2 with steam input gyro ratcheting and it keeps defaulting to the crappy ingame implementation help? pls?

The only program that I know of that hides the controller to specific programs is HidHide. The problem that you may be dealing with is actually the lack of mixed inputs. Mixed inputs allow for gamepad and mouse inputs at the same time, games that lack this feature lock to only one input method at a time. The best workaround is to completely emulate the keyboard and mouse using Steam, you can also use "gyro as joystick" (which I don't recommend).

There is a know issue with over clocking? I’m halfway to a fix but can’t promise when it’ll be out. Ran into trouble when my fix didn’t agree with with some third party controllers.

Try recalibrating your controller on steam settings, and make sure to close any other programs that could also be using your controller.

MW3 has native gyro. To use native gyro you just need to disable Steam input, use the controller with a USB connection and activate gyro on the game settings. Other than that, there isn't much more to it besides settings to best fit your preference. Hopefully with this video you can better understand what each setting does on MW3 ;D

Actually, this only works with playstation controllers, but as I mentioned in the video, you can emulate a ps4 controller with a program called DS4WIN. It's still much easier than trying to make your own configuration. I didn't go that much in-depth about it on this video because it's a very PC specific problem. É nois!

so i first really started enjoying gyro when i got an Occulus. the pointer activity is very intuitive, your brain kinda just realises its using basically a laser pointer and it takes only small wrist movements to control it. the accuracy level is very high though i would say still maybe not as high as a mouse but its really close. the speed you can accurately switch aim jump between targets its very very good. i tried using a two hand controller for it and i didnt like it as much because the adjustment of the left stick with your left hand starts to add imperfections and jitter to the aim, the same happens on any game where you have to "Mash buttons" on the right side. Ultimately the single handed double controllers (standard VR controllers at this point) offer a lot more ease of use in my opinion. and the added benefit of having two separate gyro controllers (one in each hand) also adds capability you simply cant get any other way. in fact superior to a mouse because you can control two weapons separately simultaneously. double pistols is actually functional gameplay instead of just a gimmick. i also really appreciate that i can lower my arms to my sides instead of having to constantly keep my sholders together in order to keep both hands on a single controller. with split controller you can sit and relax so much more comfortably
