Thanks for the link, Mr Seif. We practiced the HL takedown today and all involved felt that it worked great for the function previously mentioned. All were surprised at the ease of application as well as the level of control afforded by the HL. I feel that use of the HL for the control of cuffed persons pretty much eliminates any need for a takedown in all but the rarest of cases. Always fun to learn new things! One thing I want to mention for those using the HL to control persons who are cuffed: Be careful not to trap the handcuff chain on your forearm. This allows the cuffed person to use both arms to push the chain against the radial nerve in your forearm. Ouch! Lesson learned. Thanks again for sharing your expertise and for doing so in a manner which facilitates easy understanding as well.

Amazing feedback! I will hopefully get some time to work on controlling an already cuffed subject and how to regain any loss of control. Thank you again for using my videos,it makes me feel so awesome and useful that the transmission of the message is clear enough to reach through the screen.

By why 1 hand? You should use both. Also to really control them you cannot leave your arm on their elbow joint lock that for very long. It's super easy to stiff arm and straighten your elbow out of that hold.

Great demo! For some reason the young BJJ crowd think they invented these techniques in the last 20 years, AND they all have to be done in newaza/ on the ground! Ask anybody who has worked, all this stuff is old as the hills, and gets applied sucessfuly *while standing* all the time. You *do not* necessarily have to take chokes or locks to the deck in an uncontrolled situation.

@BelligerantTruth my thoughts on putting the hand on the shoulder rather than the elbow means the shoulder is not isolated,nor are the major muscles of the arm and of the chest stopped. By placing the hand in the cleft of the elbow rather than back of the shoulder the tendon tricep is cut off from engaging the tricep muscle.which means the opponent will have difficulty engaging the muscles of his arm and chest.

Mr. Serif, there is almost nothing available for control of violently-resistant, handcuffed-behind-the-back persons. Would love to see an instructional video for this topic which would give a person an alternative to the "spin him around and then face-plant him" move which seems to come instinctively as a response to violent resistance from handcuffed persons by the untrained. I find the application of this technique works great while the person's upright and in cuffs, but have not practiced it yet as a means of a controlled takedown. Any thoughts?

@Samir Seif I have a few questions. One is the hammerlock doable if you are trying to defend a strike? Next, I remember this technique however can you go for the wrist and then the elbow to get his arm back or is this not very effective? I would appreciate some tips for using this properly when to use it because I love this technique.

@SamirSeif

Actually this is a great question and comes up often. I have a video and I believe my example subject is over 6’4 and 300lbs. I show the modifications, because as you rightly note you will have no leverage and it will turn out real bad. I have a modification that fixes this. If I can track it down I’ll post the link for you.

There’s always a certain degree of injury possibilities to the shoulder and it’s structure.For the most part when applied correctly they may be sore for a couple days if it had to be applied for several minutes and their was a constant struggle, otherwise I have not had any issues with that injury in particular.

@SamirSeif
@SamirSeif 4 жыл бұрын
BelligerentTruth the lever hand at the shoulder does not cut off the subjects access to their muscles. By creating a wedge and fulcrum at the elbow you can more readily increase your leverage and lesson their ability to counter. To prevent turning and their far free hand one must compress their locked arm to ones own chest and stomach while controlling their shoulder with the free hand.

I think the method you exhibit when engaging this lock is flawed. I've been doing security for more years than I can count, and the hammer-lock is my favourite restraint. You and I both share the same views with regards to the final stage of the technique, that being apply pressure to the elbow, however when engaging I prefer to use my right hand to drag the elbow toward me whilst at the same time my left hand pushes their wrist backward, I then slide my left arm upward toward the already positioned elbow so as to not engage in an arm wrestle like the one you explain in this video. Either way, it's the end result that counts, and we both see eye-to-eye on that.
@vinvass2674
@vinvass2674 7 жыл бұрын
You have been doing security for more years than you can count - obviously you can't count very high. Look at all the comments by knowledgable people regarding this intelligent expert instructor and his great technique, and his explanation. Then in comes a moron who opens with the statement that "you think" the method is flawed. As I said, you have obviously not spent many years in security as you have no real insight or understanding of the method, nor have you probably ever really used it in a real situation. And you can't even count as high as that low number due to you having really low intelligence, which what you write also shows about you. Sounds like most of your man on man contact comes from acting out gay porn. What an idiot. Keyboard warrior nobody.

Joint locks are becoming more and more subject to excessive force complaints. In practice, an excessive force civil complaint will avail when plaintiff can demonstrate negligence or actual injury and there is no objective evidence to support the defense. Witness testimony isn't necessarily the best defense. Always back yourself up with objective evidence that can't lie.
