Im gonna be honest I will never miss power charge, it was a completely redundant mechanic when there is basically no situation that you wouldn't want the power charge attacks over the regular ones. I mostly prefered the stance system of rise where there was a legitimate reason for each of them but this is good too.

31 years old here, played mh since the very first title, awaiting every single release and even desperately awaited the english patch for portable 3rd by team maverick one (real og heroes) and I can say that the wait for wilds is single handedly more torturous than all the others put together.... why? It genuinly feels like to me this is THE monster hunter that has been waiting to be created since its concept inception.

agreed! Even things like the guiding lands in Iceborne and anomaly in Sunbreak. The locales in Wilds are a bigger/better Guiding Lands and the anomaly mechanic is hinted through the wounds mechanic and skills being on weapons. Feels like a lot of the moving parts in Wilds are a culmination of what Capcom and the MH team have been wanting to do for a long time.

100% agreed! I remember playing MH Tri on the wii, and seeing that amazing intro vid? You see the Rathalos carrying it's prey over the expansive landscape, over the herds of herbivores across the grasslands, and a group of hunters point it out in awe? - MH Wilds feels like something approaching that scale I've always dreamed of! Super hyped for February! 😭🙏

I've a similar sentiment and background, though I started with Freedom unite on PSP. It really looks like they gave the hammer the make over it needed. I'm not all hype when it comes to wilds, but i'm cautiously hopeful. Hopefully the MH team didn't bite off more ambition than they could actually chew.

I'm excited for the new hammer, finally it'll live up to its rep of being an aggressive bruiser weapon. Was so funny seeing people go "unga bunga bonk caveman weapon" but the actual gameplay was using its amazing move speed to weave in and out of the monster's reach and sniping it with charged attacks. Only time you didn't do that was when you were a speedrunner who could read the monster's AI for prediction golf swings, and what do ya know they're bringing that back LET'S GOOOOOO

Wouldn't you say hammer isn't getting as much love as the other weapons? To me, it feels like the stun galore isn't that much of a hammer thing to me, it's become more widely available through other means and it kind of puts the hammer more in the 'I play it because I like it' area when choosing weapons.

from what we’ve seen so far there’s for sure some weapons getting more changes than others. All the GL stuff is insane, same for HH, bow, and LS. Then there’s GS that doesn’t seem to be getting much lol. Hammer getting keeping sway, a new charge, and new combo loops makes me pretty happy overall! I’d say most people play hammer because they like it and for the gameplay it offers. Plus, the master rank expansion will probably offer more.

it's definitely risky to constantly be near the monster's head but for the most part you can just do charge attacks and win. trust me it's worth it, Wilds hammer is incredibly fun

All these new hammer additions look awesome. It's going to be hard going back to "strength" style because I pretty much played exclusively courage style in Sunbreak, but the gameplay here definitely looks way more fluid and mobile than it did in World. Keeping sway and that little side step are going to be great for maneuvering and the potential for different combos on the fly depending on the situation or monster behavior is very nice.

I want to agree with powercharge being gone is super sad (which it kinda is), but i mainly loved it for the level 3 charge. Super satisfying to pull off. I think Hammer in Wilds is going to be THE SAUCE. Even if it doesn't reprise it's niche as the stun king, its still going to be stupidly fun with the new strings. Also can someone please tell me if im wrong, but it seems like the big bang combo in Wilds has the same amount of hits as World. One of my biggest gripes with Hammer in Rise/Sunbreak was the missing hit in the combo.

Yeah good eye, Big Bang is back to the amount of hits it had in World. Big Bang was mainly only used in Strength mode and even then it was competing with Impact Crater. It’s nice that in Wilds it’s back to being important again

@@struckfluency Absolutely! I keep thinking that maybe Hammer could get a charge level for just the Impact Crater. Like the Sword Mode from SA, by hitting the monster you increase this charge and when it's full you can use Impact Crater, and the charge resets. Should be "hard" to fill to grant just a handfull of Impact Crater uses per hunt, as to don't overshadow the rest of the kit. But I don't know, might be straying too far from general Hammer mechanics. Hammer had an attack very similatr to the Impact Crater in it's Frontier Extreme Style iteration, most likely a precursor to it.

Rip power charge and charged brutal big bang but something I noticed is that the level one charge attack and level 2 charge attack are the power charged versions of those attacks but the tier 3 attack is the non power charged version for some reason if you play hammer you know what I mean

To me Sunbreak Hammer is almost perfect and my initial hope for Hammer in Wilds was that they would mostly just copy SB and add the impact and feel of Iceborne Hammer to it. Suprisingly tho they changed alot more than I ever expected, but so far I am a fan of pretty much all the changes. One major change I am happy about is the removal of power charge or charge modes in general. I mean I love World Hammer, but powercharge was objectively much worse than the modes from Rise/Sumbreak. Tho both shared the issue of kinda making the base moveset of Hammer obsolete as there really was no reason to not use powercharge or blue mode. Besides that I never expected keeping sway to return, but I am so happy it does. It was arguebly one of the best additions to Hammer and luckily the devs agreed with that. Lastly Golfswing sidrstep might help with the issue of it missing all the time, because of monsters pushing you away while on the ground. The only concern I really have is the decresed size of hitboxes. Hammers hitboxes in World were a bit ridiciculous I guess, but neccisiary as otherwise monsters couldn't be hit in the head reliably considering how massive some of them were. Espacially powercharge uppercut needs a massive vertical hitvox so hope atleast that stays. That said the smaller hitboxes in Rise/SB didn't seem to effect gameplay much, tho monsters generally seemed alot smaller to me. Have to wait and see how I feel about that in Wilds. Lastly one thing I kinda wish returned for Hammer alone is the clutch claw or rather the grappling hook follow ups. I know people hate that thing, but no one can deny that Hammer had by far the best implementation of it and imo clutch claw sniping (clutch claw after the uppercut) was a great additions as you could cover a suprising amount of distance. Tho keeping sway kinda does the same so I get why it won't return. Anyways I can't wait to try out Hammer in Wilds for myself.

Thats sad we wont get power charge. Having those two options for moves was good cause un powered attacks were faster than powered attacks. The upswing attack was quicker and shifted you further and than the powered one

Honestly, if Hammer keeps with its more Rise/Sunbreak type gameplay I might fall out of love with it. Hammer is definitely my favorite weapon, my prefered weapon in 3tri, 4U, and world. And being a 3rd in mhxx. The feeling of power from releasing you're charges seems deminished due to each invidual charge being more quickly chained into each other. It feels more like a flurry of just mediocore strength rather than a haymaker to face. Hope Wilds proves me wrong and I enjoy caving in the skulls of all the new monster. If not, always got GS and CB to keep me company

Yeah the wait is roughhhh. I can’t wait to get the ps5 pro though I’m sure it will ease a little bit of the wait, what will be you guy’s distraction games till MHW release? I’m going to play Wukong, Astro bot, and crisis core since I haven’t played those yet and I’m a big fan of Zack! Gonna skip rebirth(I saw my brother play most of the game). Maybe play helldivers here and there. But I think those games mixed in with some anime/horror movies should do the trick!

As a hammer man, I don’t think all the changes are that crazy personally? I feel like we will still be under shafted as usual. While everything else does Boco damage. Kind of disappointed I really wanted a 15th weapon as well, but we did not get that.

So we’re going to just PRETEND that Power Charge wasn’t THEEE SHIT?!?! Seriously guys, I understand that society just teaches us to be null and agree with most things that are “trending” or new. But FUCK NO! Not having having to slot in Flinch Free, to nowww having to do that means less deco space, and if you choose to be defiant you’ll for sure pay dearly in DPS once Long Sword hits the field, (and god knows what else now). The POWER from holding a charge and then releasing at just the right time, and not being susceptible to trip damage was INVALUABLE to say the least. Not to mention, taking away flinch shotting, tenderizing, hell, just clutch claw in general. All these things closed the distance so we’re not chasing behind a monster that is running at 30 mph in 50 different directions in 1 minute. Idk, I think they had a formula that could have at least spanned another game. This guy clearly doesn’t care because he’s not a true bonker, he literally admits to being the enemy at 5:48. Range is stolen from us, moves are stolen from us, what’s next? Damage too? And yet he’s happy for the “upgrades”… Chameleons among us bonkers, stay vigilant… (P.S. spinning bludgeon was NOT useless, most people just didn’t understand how to utilize it correctly) 😎

I moved from Sunbreak to World, I mainly played strength hammer in Sunbreak. After I switched to World, it took me a little bit to get use to power charge. However, after I get it, it feels like a thing that a hammer must have. Especially the power charge big bang move, probably one of the most used skill for all hammer players. I would definitely miss the power charge, I really hope what ever they added for hammer can make up for it. So far from what I saw they are doing to hammer,I am not really that impressed. It feels like they are taking away more than they give for hammer, well look at some of the other weapons, I am not gonna mention which one, but they are getting more and more buff each new game that come out. 😂😂😂😂

I wasn't there for the wait for world or rise but I was for the wait for sunbreak and yeah wilds is def 1000 times harder than the wait for SB was, maybe because I still had worldborne and base rise still fresh for me 133 days left... 4 months and 13 days that will feel like forever unless we get a demo sooner than expected

Actually that’s a good point and something I had in my initial script. From what I’ve seen it looks like sliding as we know it in World isn’t really in Wilds? It’s hard to say but I haven’t seen any clips of anyone really doing a sliding attack from a slope

7:30 exactly what made Rise one of the worst entry for me. Same problem existed for other less popular weapons like my beloved lance. Wirebug move spamming is so freaking boring. So glad Sunbreak fixed it

@@RedHornSSS yeah Lance is another good example of it with spiral thrust. Sunbreak still has playstyles that heavily rely on wirebugs (counter weapons) but at least those are situational and skill dependent. Sunbreak really saved Rise in a lot of ways imo, incredible expansion
