3:30 AMD and everyone else had already explained that PCIe 4.0 support means higher power consumption and heat and is thus redundant in laptops. Not sure why it's 'important' when PCIe 3.0 SSDs still work for 99.9% of users.

I have a question. First, thank you for a great review. As for the lid, I'm very disappointed. I really do not see any reason for the existence of these deep holes in the lid unless there is an animematrix. I cannot understand why this lid cannot be smooth and without holes. In the past, I saw a video of an Asus employee presenting a G14 without AnimeMatrix and this lid had no holes and the lid was smooth. So I'm confused. Anyway, I want the new MSI Gs66 to have this processor and availability for 3200 Hz memory. Unfortunately it will not happen! Can you provide information about the lid of the g14? since these holes are unsightly and impractical, and I don't like AnimeMatrix, it limits me to get this notebook. I'd like the lid smooth.

@@RAYSGT I'll just say that Intel is basically turning into the old AMD with all the price cuts that keep coming from them. I will also say that if you have a Intel rig like 9900k or 8700k there is still not really a need to upgrade yet both chips are more than fine for gaming . I just hope that now that quad cores are beginning to be retired we can finally see games take better advantage of parallel processing. I also hope that I Intel does get their shit together soon to compete with AMD on price and performance again

Well, yes and no, at the end of the day you should purchase something that is worth it's price and not get hung up on brand names and loyalty. AMD's current offerings offer a great price for performance and that's why they're killing it. My current AMD hardware include a Ryzen 5 paired with a Nitro+ 5700 XT and I'm extremely happy with those choices, they meet my need and the price paid was reasonable to me :)

How about we push for international laws that say that unless you can up the performance by at least 25% compared to previous generations, then you aren't allowed to release a new generation, and if you don't release a new generation in more than 3 years, you get taxed more? That seems like it would improve everything AND drop the whole competition bullshit :)

Your Friend amd had a fraction of the R&D that intel and nvidia did. And they have to compete on gpu and cpu fronts, intel poached all the best designers for years. They need to. This is Intel's last true bastion when it comes to the consumer and business markets. If 1st line PC manufacturers like Dell and HP accept and push AMD CPUs over Intel, it will pretty much be the end of Intel as the big name in both Desktop and Laptop sectors, leaving only Server markets. However Intel has a lot of money and is well known for paying these manufacturers to ship millions of their CPUs preferentially. The main issue though is that AMD doesn't the capacity to produce "millions" of CPUs like Intel. And that tends to be a major bottleneck when it comes to these big companies choosing AMD.

You're probably going to have to wait for a Surface Book 3. Microsoft spent a lot of time and money designing custom displays just for the Surface Book. I always wondered why MS didn't use the same display on the Surface Laptops, turns out they couldn't have been price competitive if they did. Maybe look at an MSI Prestige or Acer Creator notebook - or dare I say it, MacBook Pro 16. If you want a display on the same level as the SB, you're going to have to pay a lot and it's not going to have a high refresh rate.

So I bought this laptop 2 weeks ago from BestBuy in Chicago, and I'll go ahead and input my experience, so far, with this, trying to reflect what these reviews say (you may see my comment on other videos, like Jarrod'sTech). I bought the 1080p 120Hz version with RTX 2060 Max-Q for $1,449.99. Everything this review is saying is 100% true: the magnesium chassis feels amazing, it's not heavy but heavy enough to feel strong and sleek. It's lightweight enough to take to school in a backpack. Typing on the keyboard feels fantastic. The trackpad feels the same as my MacBook Pro 13" (2015). The keyboard lighting on my keyboard is well-lit throughout the entire keyboard. Reviews mentioned how it's spotty and not thoroughly distributed, but mine are. They're not as intensely bright, but that's ok with me. I've played World of Warcraft (both classic and retail) and both run smooth as heck. Temps < 75C. FPS > 120. I've played BF1 on Ultra settings and runs smooth as butter. Temps ~ 79C. FPS ~ 100-110. I'll soon try Cyberpunk 2077. Since I can type out all the amazing things about the laptop, it's easier to point out what I dislike (assume everything I didn't mention to be 10/10 in my opinion). Cons: - The fingerprint scanner on the power button doesn't always work, and I think it's because of my oily fingers. My fingers have to be completely 100% try for it to work 100% of the time. - There are only 2 USBs on the right side, which is not a huge deal but I wish a third was included on the left hand side. - When the screen is down, there is no battery charging indicator visible. The battery charging light indicator is on the top of the keyboard, so you'd have to open the screen up to view that light indicator. That's it. @@HammieSiochi I bought mine a week ago from Best Buy as it was on sale. I am coming from a Lenovo X1E Gen 1 and I’m loving the ASUS so far. It runs cooler than my X1E but the gpu fans can ramp a bit under load. The portability and feel of the device is amazing and I’m impressed by the sound quality. The main negatives, IMO, are the dim screen and no TB3 as that means no EGPU. My main uses are Unity dev and other software dev. I actually don’t game so I cannot speak there. Overall, I recommend the device.

I had a 2012 ASUS ROG laptop from 2013 until 2017 and it was one of the best laptops I have used; the only issue was that it was so large, heavy, and clunky. I'm super excited for this laptop because of how thin and light it is with even more power than the HP Omen I got to replace my ROG. And I love the white lid combined with the silver and grey on the rest of it.

Great review! I agree the placement of the Type A USB ports is not great for external mouse users, but a 90 degree USB extension should take care of that issue. The lack of webcam doesn't seem like a dealbreaker, especially since most laptops come with crappy 720p cameras. A decent 1080p webcam is less than $50.

I'm looking for something to upgrade from my ancient Haswell laptop and I've been waiting for the new Zen mobile CPU's. I've gotta' say, even with the limitations due to thermals it's pretty tempting at the price. I really wish it had an SD slot, as I'd be using it for content creation on the go. But I get it... not a lot of room. Certainly on my shortlist right now. I'll have to decide if a larger model will be worth it. The added 10-key would be nice in a larger model as well.

I bought the MSI Prestige 15 five months ago and was very happy with the performance. But this thing, damn. It's making me salivate. Granted they do target slightly different audiences, and there are compromises the G14 makes that P15 doesn't (e.g. RAM, screen, webcam, TB3), but the huge performance delta is so difficult for any other aspects of the overall package to make up for. I will certainly be looking forward to future studio-oriented laptops equipped with Ryzen. Intel's going to have a very difficult decade ahead of them.

What a great chip. Excited for those who will get it. But it does come with a hefty price tag. Once this releases I recommend looking at the 9880H laptops. As they will be "last gen" at the point you can start buying these, and will probably get a discount once intel counters with its 10th gen mobile 8 core offerings. Mine gets 4200 in cinebench r20 with some simple tweaking, and I've been rocking it for about half a year now.

Wait what! I thought the soldered ram was 16 gb. I was really hoping to add a second 16gb stick. Isn’t 24 gb weird? Could you add a 32gb stick for 40 total? I thought having mis-matched ram was super inefficient.
@LeBlafy
@LeBlafy 4 жыл бұрын
Actually no, having the same frequency is more important. If you put a 16gb stick with the 8gb on board memory (24 total), you will still have dual channel : 16gb will be on dual channel, and 8gb on single, a hybrid mode. But that's alright, your system will prioritize the fastest and the difference with a dual channel is insignificant. If you add a 32gb, you will have 32gb as dual and 8gb as single. So 40gb is ok too.

@METhOdhowtoKilLnoObS I agree, I love what AMD is doing, but make no mistake, none of these companies are altruistic. @stargazer162
@stargazer162 4 жыл бұрын
@@melmagallon6233 They will, eventually, but for now I'd rather have AMD dominate every sector. Don't forget how massive Intel is, the only reason AMD managed to catch up is because on top of having developed an amazing architecture, Intel has been stuck refreshing Skylake for way too many years, but if Intel wereat 10nm with a new architecture, Ryzen 1000 would have really struggled, and even Zen2 would struggle if it were competing against 7nm Intel CPUs. If Intel catches up too soon and blows AMD out of the water, AMD will struggle to remain competitive, I'd rather Intel strike back once AMD has managed to secure a more stable position as a serious competitor, like having a 50% market share or higher on desktop, and a high market share on other sectors like servers and notebooks as well, at least 40% but ideally 50%. Right now AMD is destroying Intel in terms of offerings, but in economical terms, they're far from even catching up, let alone surpassing them.
