I have a question. First, thank you for a great review. As for the lid, I'm very disappointed. I really do not see any reason for the existence of these deep holes in the lid unless there is an animematrix. I cannot understand why this lid cannot be smooth and without holes. In the past, I saw a video of an Asus employee presenting a G14 without AnimeMatrix and this lid had no holes and the lid was smooth. So I'm confused. Anyway, I want the new MSI Gs66 to have this processor and availability for 3200 Hz memory. Unfortunately it will not happen! Can you provide information about the lid of the g14? since these holes are unsightly and impractical, and I don't like AnimeMatrix, it limits me to get this notebook. I'd like the lid smooth.

Well, yes and no, at the end of the day you should purchase something that is worth it's price and not get hung up on brand names and loyalty. AMD's current offerings offer a great price for performance and that's why they're killing it. @fredsas124 жыл бұрын
They need to. This is Intel's last true bastion when it comes to the consumer and business markets. If 1st line PC manufacturers like Dell and HP accept and push AMD CPUs over Intel, it will pretty much be the end of Intel as the big name in both Desktop and Laptop sectors, leaving only Server markets. However Intel has a lot of money and is well known for paying these manufacturers to ship millions of their CPUs preferentially. The main issue though is that AMD doesn't the capacity to produce "millions" of CPUs like Intel. And that tends to be a major bottleneck when it comes to these big companies choosing AMD.

So I bought this laptop 2 weeks ago from BestBuy in Chicago, and I'll go ahead and input my experience, so far, with this, trying to reflect what these reviews say (you may see my comment on other videos, like Jarrod'sTech). I bought the 1080p 120Hz version with RTX 2060 Max-Q for $1,449.99. Everything this review is saying is 100% true: the magnesium chassis feels amazing, it's not heavy but heavy enough to feel strong and sleek. It's lightweight enough to take to school in a backpack. Typing on the keyboard feels fantastic. The trackpad feels the same as my MacBook Pro 13" (2015). The keyboard lighting on my keyboard is well-lit throughout the entire keyboard. Reviews mentioned how it's spotty and not thoroughly distributed, but mine are. They're not as intensely bright, but that's ok with me. I've played World of Warcraft (both classic and retail) and both run smooth as heck. Temps < 75C. FPS > 120. I've played BF1 on Ultra settings and runs smooth as butter. Temps ~ 79C. FPS ~ 100-110. I'll soon try Cyberpunk 2077. Since I can type out all the amazing things about the laptop, it's easier to point out what I dislike (assume everything I didn't mention to be 10/10 in my opinion). Cons: - The fingerprint scanner on the power button doesn't always work, and I think it's because of my oily fingers. My fingers have to be completely 100% try for it to work 100% of the time. - There are only 2 USBs on the right side, which is not a huge deal but I wish a third was included on the left hand side. - When the screen is down, there is no battery charging indicator visible. The battery charging light indicator is on the top of the keyboard, so you'd have to open the screen up to view that light indicator. That's it. Such minute cons make this laptop such a fantastic machine. Everything inside is so powerful, it's insane. If anyone has a specific question, feel free to message me!

I'm looking for something to upgrade from my ancient Haswell laptop and I've been waiting for the new Zen mobile CPU's. I've gotta' say, even with the limitations due to thermals it's pretty tempting at the price. I really wish it had an SD slot, as I'd be using it for content creation on the go. But I get it... not a lot of room. Certainly on my shortlist right now. I'll have to decide if a larger model will be worth it. The added 10-key would be nice in a larger model as well.

Just bought a used 8th-gen Intel-based system because battery life and price were solid, but wow. Looks like I can basically have it all with the latest AMD mobile chips. I'm super tempted to switch to this G14, especially when I can get all that portability and battery life PLUS an strong gaming system in one. Way to go, AMD. Thanks for making the market competitive again.

Yeah dude also I'm waiting for this laptop to hit Malaysian market. I'll probably buy the 15'' version. I might assume the price according to the latest currency exchange, RM6000+ for this version. If it's less than RM7000 I might buy it cuz my max budget for a gaming laptop is RM6000.
@scheimong4 жыл бұрын
I bought the MSI Prestige 15 five months ago and was very happy with the performance. But this thing, damn. It's making me salivate. Granted they do target slightly different audiences, and there are compromises the G14 makes that P15 doesn't (e.g. RAM, screen, webcam, TB3), but the huge performance delta is so difficult for any other aspects of the overall package to make up for. I will certainly be looking forward to future studio-oriented laptops equipped with Ryzen. Intel's going to have a very difficult decade ahead of them.

What a great chip. Excited for those who will get it. But it does come with a hefty price tag. Once this releases I recommend looking at the 9880H laptops. As they will be "last gen" at the point you can start buying these, and will probably get a discount once intel counters with its 10th gen mobile 8 core offerings. Mine gets 4200 in cinebench r20 with some simple tweaking, and I've been rocking it for about half a year now.

Wait what! I thought the soldered ram was 16 gb. I was really hoping to add a second 16gb stick. Isn’t 24 gb weird? Could you add a 32gb stick for 40 total? I thought having mis-matched ram was super inefficient.
@LeBlafy4 жыл бұрын
Actually no, having the same frequency is more important. If you put a 16gb stick with the 8gb on board memory (24 total), you will still have dual channel : 16gb will be on dual channel, and 8gb on single, a hybrid mode. But that's alright, your system will prioritize the fastest and the difference with a dual channel is insignificant. If you add a 32gb, you will have 32gb as dual and 8gb as single. So 40gb is ok too.
@mike_abramyan4 жыл бұрын
@@LeBlafy thank you, that's what I thought but wasn't sure. Might have to look into buying a 32gb stick as I wanna use this computer for after effects and premiere.

Intel is going down Amd all praise amd? What an era?
@melmagallon62334 жыл бұрын
@METhOdhowtoKilLnoObS I agree, I love what AMD is doing, but make no mistake, none of these companies are altruistic. If Intel keeps stumbling, expect the same price gouging from team red sooner than we can expect. Ironically, if you love AMD's price/performance ratio... you better start rooting for Intel to get it's act together.
@NewmanOnGaming4 жыл бұрын
Mel Magallon that’s if Intel learns to get past 14nm. They need better density to excel beyond where they stand.
@stargazer1624 жыл бұрын
@@melmagallon6233 They will, eventually, but for now I'd rather have AMD dominate every sector. Don't forget how massive Intel is, the only reason AMD managed to catch up is because on top of having developed an amazing architecture, Intel has been stuck refreshing Skylake for way too many years, but if Intel wereat 10nm with a new architecture, Ryzen 1000 would have really struggled, and even Zen2 would struggle if it were competing against 7nm Intel CPUs. If Intel catches up too soon and blows AMD out of the water, AMD will struggle to remain competitive, I'd rather Intel strike back once AMD has managed to secure a more stable position as a serious competitor, like having a 50% market share or higher on desktop, and a high market share on other sectors like servers and notebooks as well, at least 40% but ideally 50%. Right now AMD is destroying Intel in terms of offerings, but in economical terms, they're far from even catching up, let alone surpassing them.

Thanks for this review. I found quiet strange that all youtubers complains about fan noise !!! When reading your numbers (39.9dBA, 46.5dBA and 49.7dBA) and compare to by example this Eluktronics RP-15 review. I didn't hear any remarks/comments about fans noise for this laptop ( I recall 44.9dBA, 48.4DBA and 53.1dBA). If I remember correctly each 3dBA increase mean noise level double. IT is the tuning (too much treeble ?)

Some things it doesn't have that I insist on: 1. all the RAM has to be replaceable, not this one soldered and one replaceable. I keep laptops long enough that the DIMMs die at least once or twice. 2. needs a user replaceable battery (no I don't mean doing major work on the laptop, removing 20 screws and voiding the warantee kind of battery replacement)
