This scene hits hard on first viewing, but it hits way harder on rewatch and especially if you know the background from the books. -Draco disarming Dumbledore, taking the Elder Wand. -Dumbledore telling Draco that he completely understands that he's between a rock and a hard place. -Draco, who even under the threat of death, cannot bring himself to kill Dumbledore, a person he probably still looks up to as a mentor. -Draco finally realizing where his aggressive actions have led him. It was all fun and games until Voldemort orders him to murder Dumbledore in cold blood. Harry lost his innocence at the end of Goblet of Fire, but this is where Draco lost his. -The true meanig of Dumbledore's "please." He's not asking Snape for mercy, but instead he's asking Snape to kill him to save Draco because Dumbledore knows that Draco can still be redeemed. -While they have different reactions externally, internally Harry, Draco, and Snape are all sad and grieving Dumbledore's death. Overall, and excellent scene.

I think its also to save Draco's life. Dumbledore surely would have known that whoever Voldemort thinks killed him will have to die. He can't be that ignorant of the wand he carries around. Same with Snape, he for sure would have known that if Voldemort really believed he killed Dumbledore, Voldemort would kill him. In a way that makes Snape's actions even more heroic IMO.

In the books, there was a whole war going inside Hogwarts at this time. DA was fighting in the main hall iirc, and it was pure chaos. Snape and company carved their way out and Harry was trying to follow along. They removed it from the movie for convenience I think, or else this scene would have gone for another 10 minutes.

Bellatrix is honestly so unhinged and hilarious in these scenes - gleefully hissing at Draco to kill Dumbledore, squealing with delight as she casts the Dark Mark sky high and desecrates Hogwarts, skipping through the forest like a child and burning Hagrid’s hut as she jumps around. She’s clearly the only one enjoying the moment - excellent performance by Helena Bonham Carter.

You can tell from Snape's voice that he didn't want to kill Dumbledore but he knew that he had to in order to fully gain Voldemort's trust and to also save Draco's soul!!!! Dumbledore asked Snape to kill him to spare him the pain of a humiliating death from the curse of Marvolo Gaunt's Ring.

Even the moment he pointed a wand at harry. His face looked so anxious of what might happen next if they were to follow their plan. Looked like severus was about to knock harry out in order for harry not to potentially ruin the plan, but he decided not to in order for harry to witness the event for him to understand why severus did all that later on

Even though Draco was a bully, he couldn’t bring himself to kill Dumbledore and he didn’t want to based on his behavior in this movie. He didn’t want to even though he said he was chosen but said that if he didn’t kill Dumbledore, Voldemort would kill him. Dumbledore arranged for Snape to kill him instead to solidify Voldemort’s trust in Snape, spare Draco and protect Harry.

When I was younger. I knew it was dumbledore’s plan for Snape to kill him. But it really felt like a hail Mary plan and only because times were so desperate. This scene really feels like Dumbledore was cornered and powerless. When after looking into the books. I realize that if Dumbledore wanted. He could have probably taken everyone on in that room with little to no struggle. He was a genius and master wizard. But knew it was gonna take sacrifice to win the war against Voldemort. What seemed like a huge loss, was really win. Snape and Dumbledore carried the whole war in the background.

Honestly should have done what happened in the book. Draco was there alone for a LONG time and only a handful of death eaters came in afterwards. Harry could have taken care of Draco and he and Albus could have beaten all the death eaters. Dumbledor stays alive, they have prisoners including Bellatrix who is a high ranking Death Eater.

Gambon didn't do a good job in the Goblet of Fire because he always sounded and acted angry, although I think some of that was the director's fault. I think he actually did a much better job in this movie in particular. It sounds to me like you were a fan of Richard Harris but the problem was that even if he didn't pass away and continued acting, it's unlikely (because of his age) that he would have been able to perform some of the physical acting Gambon was able to do.
