I think if Sirius had raised him Harry would have been even more of an inverse to Draco. Harry would have grown up knowing about the prejudices the Black family had and why Sirius was opposed to it. I also think Snape would have been even harder on Harry as well.

Harry might have ended up with a personality more similar to James or Sirius since he would have been raised by Sirius and Sirius saw a lot of James in Harry and would have wanted to cultivate that (through encouragement) Harry might have ended up a bit more reckless going by how Sirius advice him in the books him being a constant source of advice for over a decade would have an influence on him.

I think that Sirius was like this because we entered Azkaban at 21 and never really had the time to mature. If he raised Harry he would have been a more mature version of himself. So while I am sure that Harry would be more confident if raised by him I feel that Sirius would have been less of a "older brother" as he is in canon and more a real father figure (that loves you and might like mischief but also might get angry and ground you).

Maybe, but I think if Sirius was capable of maturity like this shows then it would have set a different tone for the rest of his life. It would have shown that he emotionally sobered from the grief and loss, and most people that I have seen do that (in real life) rarely go back to their former selves.

@@futureivygirl Yes he would face that risk but the dementors wouldn't be circulating around Hogwarts looking for Black since he wasn't a criminal in this timeline and remember that Harry and his cousin wouldn't be attacked either since he wasn't living with them at all in this timeline... nor probably even knew of them or maybe Sirius hinted about them but Harry wouldn't be there. My theory is that Harry wouldn't know the spell in time before it's too late in this timeline... and if he learned it, it would be years later compared to the correct timeline.

Harry's life could go off in a lot of different ways with Sirius raising him - from him becoming worst mix of Draco and James/Sirius to a happy childhood with no bad impact on his personality whatsoever. I suppose it might be something in between;) But a lot of people comment that Sirius recklessness wouldn't make him a good parent but that's what I disagree with - lots of parents and adults only realizes how stupid and terrible their behavior was when they were children/teens when they see the same features in their children or other younger relatives. If Sirius was to become Harry's legal parent - and only parent - he definitely WOULD become more responsible and wouldn't want him to act as he did when he was a kid.

Dumbledore is such a smart wizard and I think he had it all planned out. The reason why Harry stayed with the durslys is because of the blood. Lily sacrificed her life to save Harrys meaning that she gave the protection of love but that protection only lasted when those same blood as her were around. Even if Sirius wasn’t sent to askaban and was able to raise harry I think dumbledore would explain too Sirius why he could look after harry

Here is the thing though. Lily's protection is through LOVE not BLOOD. those are two different aspects of magic. I am not saying the Dumbledore didn't place powerfull protections over Private Drive because he did. However I do think Dumbledore lied to Harry about the types of protections or what tied them. There was no love between Harry and the Dursleys. Petunia only took Harry in because of Dumbledore. And as a side note, after year four during which Voldemort gained Harry's blood and actually neutralized Lily's protection... (damn it is tied to his blood) the protections over Private Drive should have been useless if it were simply based on Lily's protection.

I never got the protection thing from the Dursley's. Yes, Harry cannot be harmed while he is at their home. But they could be easily harmed. What would stop the DE to kill Petunia and the others and then attack Harry? It always felt too risky to leave the Dursleys as the guardians. Yes, they had Figg to keep an eye on them but still...

@@anvime739 And to make it worse, in theory after his re-birth, Voldemort could just walk up to number 4 enter the house and kill everyone. Why? well he had Harry's blood and as he showed, he could touch Harry without being harmed. And with Voldemort's rebirth, Rowling missed a great oppertunity with Harry's blood. You see I always found it strange that the Phoenix tears (willingly givven) and the venom of a thousand year old basilisk never were mentioned again. Those two elements mixed with Harry's blood could and should have messed with Riddle's re-birth. And don't get me started on how Ron was able to open the Chamber of Secrets. Ron heard Harry speak Pasletongue in his sleep and automatticly presumed it to be the words for entering the Chamber. Also Pasletongue is a magical language that not even Dumbledore could speak. He could understand some of it sure, but he could not speak it. I always see Parsletongue in the same light as Metamorphmagi as in it is tied to a bloodline and you must have the inate magic to use the ability.

@@edwinvanooijen7749 the phoenix tears completely neutralized the basilisk venom and then eventually it got purged from Harry’s system like any other foreign entity in the body, magic or otherwise. And Ron was able to speak the specific word in parselmouth because he had heard Harry say it, not only in his sleep, but also when they were first going to the chamber and when he commanded the locket to open. That kind of sticks with you, especially when you’re the one who destroyed the locket. Voldemort didn’t use parselmouth that often, so most didn’t even know he was one, and Harry didn’t use it very often himself, he didn’t even know he had that ability until his second year.

With Harry growing up in the Dursley household, he became tougher and more resilient to being bullied. Bullies like Draco didn't bother him as much as if he had not to fend off Dudley and his friends. He learned how to push back. Also he did not scare as easily as he would have if had been pampered by the wizarding world for his part in getting rid of Voldemort. In short, I think that he survived because he wasn't.

Sirius would 100% rope Remus in to help him raising Harry as I think Sirius is self aware enough to know Remus is a lot more level headed and responsible and role model appropriate than himself. Sirius would most likely use this as a way to make up for mistrusting Remus in the first place, plus he’d probably definitely need Remus in his life a lot to compensate for the pain of seeing James and lily in Harry all day everyday. Remus and Harry would be the two people closest to Sirius and the same would be for Remus. Therefore it would make sense for them both to raise him … plus wolfstar so 😌

I don’t really see it this way, Sirius being buddy-buddy with Remus after his escape is very much fanon. He wasn’t very trusting of Dumbledore and he didn’t exactly shower Remus with compliments and affection in either GoF or OfP. His sole focus was Harry.

Sirius makes it a point to state that he thinks remus was the only one out of his friends who wasn’t an idiot. Upon first meeting, the first thing they do despite everything is grin at eachother and embrace. Obviously his main focus was Harry but the last two remaining people on earth he loves would be Remus and Harry so it makes sense for him to want both of them around. Plus Remus is the last reminder of his life before Azkaban since Harry was only a baby

While Sirius would have been a loving father figure for Harry and would have been better for the boy's mental health, I do think that Sirius might not have been the best candidate to raise a child. For one, Harry wouldn't have been as humble as he was in the actual series, he might have been raised to more arrogant and maybe a bit more cruel. Because, we can't forget that Sirius, even almost two decades, still saw no issue in setting up Snape for a meet-and-greet with a werewolf... Sirius was a good man but he had a serious dark side and wasn't the greatest role model, all things considered. In order to raise Harry right, Sirius should have gotten some help and I'm not sure if he would be all that open for that.

I've read a few fanfics like this I quite enjoy them as well as what if Peter didn't escape and Sirius was proven innocent in prisoner of Azkaban. I really liked Sirius as a character and his moments with Harry, just wished we'd gotten more. Shame too that in the order of the Phoenix movie they cut out a lot of the Harry and Sirius interactions.

Well, in the third book, Hagrid actually says that when he was going to get Harry to give to Dumbledore so they could leave him with the Dursleys, that Sirius actually asked him to give Harry to Sirius. Yeah. Dumbledore would had to have known that Pettigrew was the secret-keeper from the start. Then I imagine Sirius would be an unreliable and irresponsible father figure. Which would add some adversity to Harry's life which could potentially mess him up even more as he may feel neglected by someone who can go from unconditionally loving him to seemingly not caring much day-to-day. Whereas with the Dursley's he didn't have to deal with mixed messages as they simply didn't like him from the start and were consistent in making that very clear.

That's not how Sacrificial Protection works, what you're talking about is the Bond of Blood ward that Dumbledore put around Privet Drive. Harry still would have had the protection from Lily, because it was literally in his blood, but the Dursleys wouldn't have any protection against hostile magicals.

There's just too many questions for the life path. Probably best to make a mini-series for each book, describing and theorizing how everything might've played out differently. For example: Would Harry still have discovered the Mirror of Erised? He most likely would've spent Christmas with Sirius in London. And with much more Ego in that upbringing than the Muggle life; would he have been able to obtain the Philosopher's Stone without the want to use it?

I imagine in this kind of story, it would have been Hermione rather than Harry who would have become the main protagonist or at least things would have been primarily shown through her POV, at least from the early chapters of the first book. What made Harry's story work so well to establish its world building was the fact that Harry started off as a fish out of water. He was someone who had no knowledge of the wizarding world or magic, yet alone the fact that he is a wizard. If the story starts with him as Sirius's ward, living comfortably in a magical house and fully aware of his linage and of wizarding history and culture. Then there would little in terms of feeling the wonder and surprise of this magical world when Harry is already living it, whereas Hermione being muggle born would make for a better audience surrogate in this story.

I think the secret keeper has to do some sort of acceptance, so it is unlikely that Harry would have been able to do so.

I would have LOVED to see this theory be what actually happened in the story line, Sirius was one of my fav characters and I always wanted to see Harry grow up in an environment he truly deserved, he deserved to be loved and treated like a human. I agree mostly, however, the only reason harry was able to kill voldemort was because he lived with the dursleys as he had to call home a place where people with lily/harry's blood lived. So harry probably wouldve had to go to the dursleys often like 2 weeks a year or somethin.

Here is a very dark side to this what if, Harry might have been able to pull off the Crusiatus Curse on Bellatrix. Or it could have even be changed in the Killing Curse, since Harry's relationship with Sirius in this what if is different. Snape would have been even worse to Harry than regularly since he would only see Sirius and James in Harry and nothing of Lily. I do however think that Sirius would also mature a LOT while raising Harry, since he is eccentially a single father.

I think that Harry would run away at age eight, trying to find shelter, until he stumbles upon Grimmauld Place and settles in a guest room, but he finds Sirius’s bedroom after that and sees the letter Sirius wrote to Lily. The next morning, when he’s well-rested and has eaten, he continues his journey until he finds and orphanage, and decides to put himself in their care. At ten, Sirius adopts Harry, and Harry is still humble, Hagrid takes him to Gringotts and he finds his mother’s diary. He starts reading it and packs it for Hogwarts. When he’s there, he’s more confident, charismatic and still humble. Growing up with Sirius made him confident about magic, so he’s good at Charms and he goes to the library for books on DADA, because he felt Quirrell was a coward. He becomes above his year in the subject. In second year, he becomes more adept at the subject, finding a Boggart once while exploring, but he didn’t know what to do, luckily Snape repels it, giving Harry a look of absolute loathing. Harry continuously shows he is the best in his year at DADA, and in third year, it would mainly be about trying to stop Pettigrew from his schemes rather than finding Sirius. After finding out the secret Sirius kept since he adopted Harry, Harry tries to find it and he does: Peter Pettigrew betrayed his parents. Angered, he tries to find every lead he can, finding nothing until he gets a certain clue… a rat with one finger missing. He figures out it’s Ron’s rat, and asks McGonagall to untransfigure it and it surely becomes Pettigrew. In the summer, Harry gets a trial for Sirius, with another of their friends, Remus Lupin, who became their Professor for half the year in year two. Remus and Harry clear Sirius and he can go out free now. He lets Harry have a few friends over, Ron, Hermione, Neville and Ginny. Over the fourth year, he grows closer to Ginny, after their exploding snap game, Ginny sees him as more of a savior than a hero. Then they become close, hinting a future romance between them. At one point, Ginny asks Harry to the ball, and he politely declines, still having eyes for only Cho. In fifth year, Harry starts to notice Ginny definitely in a pleasant way, she’s happy and charismatic. In sixth year, his closeness to Ginny makes some attraction come into the picture and he feels surges of jealousy when he sees Ginny kissing Dean or anything like that. I would make them have their first kiss when Ginny hides the book, not sure how Ron would feel about them starting a relationship, then the Quidditch kiss happens and that;s when they realize, as the hiding book kiss was more oblivious. The last book, Harry, Ron and Hermione go in their expedition for horcruxes, finding out about Regulus and feeling bad for him, that he was forced to be part of the idealistic family and not be himself. In this universe, Sirius dies as well, but he stays with the Weasleys. After Sirius dies, he’s more determined than ever to find and destroy Voldemort. At the end of the series, he would still be a nice guy, but a little more confident, with three kids with Ginny. James Sirius, Albus Regulus, and Lily Heidi (Hedwig) Potter. Hedwig is now Harry’s patronus and he names Albus accordingly. Snape specifically told him not to tell anyone about the secret, but Harry was acting a little too OOC at the end. Giving Albus the middle name Regulus would be a symbol that he respects Snape and his desires,

I do think that in this changed history that I still believe that he would of been still sent to live with his aunt petunia and uncle Vernon because of the protection spell that was placed on Harry but I do believe that serious black would be more involved in Harry’s life

I imagine Sirius would probably hang around to watch over Harry like Obi Wan did when Luke was growing up on Tattoine with his uncle and aunt. He might have even bought a house near the Dursley residence and even become next door neighbors just to keep an eye on Harry and make sure he's ok.

Very interesting, but the problem I see with this theory is that Harry would not have retained his protection from Voldemort (due to his aunt being related to his mother), so it would have been a major problem in defeating Voldemort. Because of this, I do not believe Dumbledore would have chosen to place him in Sirius's care.

It would however probably force the Durshleys to actually take care of Harry since there is NO doubt in my mind that Sirius would have gone to Harry constantly. They wouldn't get away with the abuse because he would without a doubt threaten them with different curses if they as much as thought about hurting Harry. It wouldn't have been a loving home but he would have had a father figure that would be watching over him constantly, a big connection to his linerage, been taught magic way earlier etc etc.

I would also love to know how it would impact his friendship with Ron and Hermione since he bonded with them for example because he was so humble and also disliked Malfoy because he reminded him so much of Dudley. He would still dislike Snape but for different reasons and maybe he would be more of a bully who knows?

Malfoy had connections with Black family and both were death eaters. So naturally Sirius would hate both and so will Harry. Ron and Hermione's friendship won't get affected much. And yes Harry would try out every chance to belittle Snape.

I thought about this a long time ago and gave it as much logic as possible considering things from the POV of Sirius, Remus, Dumbledore, and possibly Aunt Petunia would have been involved even if she did not actually raise Harry herself. I think Dumbledore would have made Sirius realize that Harry was in extreme danger and would be a prime target of the death eaters. And probably Sirius and Harry might have been pushed out into the muggle world to blend in with the muggles as much as possible. Maybe even growing up not far from his Aunt Petunia so that he would visit with her a lot, and even be watched by her during the day while Sirius was at work. I was imagining Sirius running his own garage fixing muggle motorcycles, and Remus working along with him (naturally, Sirius would look after him and give him work and therefore a steady paycheck) And also this business would do really well and Sirius would have an excellent reputation. But I also picture Sirius getting married, so that Harry would have a Godmother, and younger siblings. And that sort of wrecks the entire premise of the real story as written by JKR. Her point was that Harry was the person he came to be because of his unselfish nature. All he wanted in life was the parents and the love that he had lost. As a baby he would be too young to remember that loss at all, would have grown up with Sirius' affection, and I'm sure Sirius would be very careful to choose a very loving woman to help raise Harry. So, then Harry never has reason to miss having parents and love and affection and kindness. All the strengths that gave him the ability to defeat Voldemort came from the grief he suffered due to having no parents to love him.

The theory only works IF: - Sirius is able to convince someone important that he is in fact inocent of murder. As you already known the book doesnt actually said Sirius run away from "magical entities" (i forgot how police magicians works and the actual words to describe them), so is correct to asume that he fail to present himself as inocent.

There is one bad thing about growing up with Sirius and it would have changed all his life which is that Harry would never learn how to produce a patronus at that young age so not every one will join the D.A and many problems will happen🙂

Harry three main childhood friends most likely would have been Ron, Ginny and Neville. I see him going over to Weasley's more then the Longbottom's. Harry and Draco mostly like still have there rivalry due to Weasley being a second family. As for his animal form phoenix, lion or stag. I don't see Harry pranking people like twins or his father and godfather or being him a brat like Draco. Harry would learn the real reason his parents just not prophecy until he was older. Harry would still hate reason on why he is famous. Both Sirius and Lupin would help with that.

I think that Sirius would've floated the idea of a magical procedure or course of potions to give Harry full function and clarity in his sight, if such an option exists. Perhaps involving a trip to somewhere else in the world where such magical quality of life procedures are more common. If for no other reason than the glasses might be a liability in tough situations, and it'd be nice not to worry about losing them while flying. But, if Harry opted to keep the glasses, he'd at least be wearing more fashionable ones, probably would have spare pairs, and perhaps get them enchanted to be more durable/ self repairing. Beyond that, some travel, a nice vacation here and there, maybe somewhere warm and sunny during a cold, rainy winter... Say, Portugal, for example. Or the South of France, or even further afield, like Jamaica or Hawaii?

In book 7 towards the end, Snape said had Snape been called sooner Dumbledore could have survived longer,I think that would make a huge difference but idk if Dumbledore would need all that extra time, he'd still want to die sooner for the sake of the plan.

I am surprised you didn't mention his relationships with the staff at Hogwarts. Snape would have hated him even more, just to name one. Others would have possibly been very different as well. If Mcgonagall had visited him growing up, she would have been a much stronger mother figure, while his friendship with Hagrid could have been different because they would have met under much different circumstances.

i feel like if sirius did raise harry he would of known about the marauders map a lot sooner than fred and george did after they found it in their first year and through figuring it out passing it onto harry, also harry would have been able to go to hogsmede on weekends as sirius would have signed the form at the start of his third year instead of the end of year 3 meaning harry may or may not have been given the map by fred and george for the purpose of going to hogsmede

I might sound bad here but it would be bad, there was a theory why Dumbledore never bailed Sirius and let him take care of Harry. Because Petunia has Lily's blood and Lily's blood contains the Love Protection Charm, Harry is more protected, and because the protection gets charged every Dursley summer, when he is with Sirius, the protection would break earlier and would leave Harry unprotected
