Victoria is a saint it is scary the professionals who claim to be dog trainers with no certifications and no training. The dominance theory is largely outdated. This poor dog has been abused for years it is amazing how forgiving family pets can be. The main aspect when helping people is to look at the bigger picture than letting emotion getting in the way. It is upsetting seeing this form of training prior to Victoria.

The saddest thing is that they had tried to do the right thing. It's a TV show, honestly they could just be showing the more "favorable" scenes when the dog is behaving, but on their walk they legit switched collars to a martingale, which I 100% support since it'll prevent the dog from escaping its collar and getting loose, I personally wouldn't have used a choke chain either, I would first start on a martingale using positive reinforcement than slowly add in a prong, or if the dog was ok with it put it on in the beginning. The training method you use really depends on the dog. Each dog is different and can learn in different ways, but I'm a balanced trainer and fully support the PROPER, and I mean PROPER use of tools on dogs.

I'd feel this way if it wasn't for the fact that they really didn't know any better. They got the idea of negative enforcement from ANOTHER dog trainer. It isn't something they just came up with in spite or malice, they just wanted their dog to behave. They took the advice someone claiming to be a professional gave them and, eventually, when they saw it still wasn't helping, went to see a REAL professional. At most, they should receive a fine in my eyes. But to be charged and given jail time isn't fair all things considered; the two got properly educated and STICK to the training instead of continuing on what they were doing before. They didn't know better at the time, and the person who SHOULD know better lead them astray

as soon as the choke collar came off her attitude changed completely, that isn't asserting dominance that's terrifying a dog inducing its fight or flight reaction. no dog trainer in their right mind should recommend choke training. not only is it risky for health reasons but it induces a huge amount of fear into the dog.
@rainbowdragon42484 жыл бұрын
if used correctly it can be really effective training. prongs, e collars, and slip collar are used in balanced training (so is treats and clicker training) so don't assume that the slip collar is bad because these ppl misused it! it's always the owners, if not the current owners it's the one that came before them. And it's so sad that so many people adopt pets without doing the proper research on how to either train them or just take care of them. I have my current dog as an example, his old owners used to beat him a lot, especially kicking (to the point where when he came to me, we would've to be careful when walking around him, and he was really reactive, u had to be careful even when petting him. I'm really proud of how far I've came with him, cause now I can even pick him up and he wont be bothered and he will even rest his head on my legs, when a few years back he wouldn't even get near.

@oliviaohara31324 жыл бұрын
A good solution to that is a prong collar, which constricts but since it has small pegs on it it can’t choke. I use one on my own small puppy (she weighs 11lbs) and she has never been injured by it, and as long as you know the proper technique on using it, it’s harmless and a vital tool in helping to train your animal to maximize safety.

Martingales are great too!
@taylorm50174 жыл бұрын
lol nope I’m okay with prong when used correctly and on adult dogs but using it on a small puppy just seems wrong. You could use a gentle leader or a harness that hooks into the front of the chest. This type of harness makes the dog to turn back towards you when it pulls and the gentle lead allows you give more direction to the dog, it’s also hits the pressure points on the head and face where it should be comfortable and it works great when adjusted correctly onto the dog.

I absolutely love Victoria’s methods in training, each dog is unique & she tells the owners how it is but she doesn’t judge them she just corrects them. Before we got our first puppy, a Boxer puppy we did lots of research & had a professional trainer come to our house, we didn’t want to set our puppy up to fail. We didn’t know what we were doing we had never owned a big dog the professional trainer was amazing she trained us so then we could train our puppy our Boxer is now 8 years old & our training has never stoped we now have added a staffy & another Boxer to the mix & we have used the same training methods that we do with our very first puppy, so now we have a 8 year old Boxer a 5 year old Staffy & a 3 year old Boxer & they are all thriving. People really need to realise a dogs training never stops, training from the day you get your dog sets it up for life not doing the right thing by our dogs is just unfair to the dog we should alway set our dogs up to thrive.

These people should NOT have a dog. They had six years to think “maybe I should try something else” but they didn’t. Do t give them a chance save that dog! Then teach the owners.

I think taking the choke collar off helped her calm down because she is not having to deal with pain and yelling and she is learning the life of a normal dog btw have a great day stay safe and bye bye 👋👍🏻❤️

I can't believe they actually still used those things even after their dog had passed out from it, even I know that means to stop using them.
@uicornpuppyloverpotatoe49624 жыл бұрын
I agree they had that dog for 6 years. Method didn't work. They CONTINUED to use it. There dog littaraly passed out from that thing. Keep in mind there just bringing a lot of problems to themself on a silver plater. And in the process of that dog passing out it still didn't effect its behavior. So how HOW. Could they still think it was a good idea to use it.

Ugh grrr makes me so mad!! Not okay!!! If your going to get a dog people study if your new to dogs!! Think if your doing something with your dog like this would you do it on one of your close family members, as your dog should be very close to you.

These aren't bad people. As soon as Victoria came and taught them the right way to train a dog, they changed immediately and you can see they didn't just go back to their old harmful ways when she left. Training her without Victoria could have gone very badly if they weren't willing to do what's best for the dog. They did go to a trainer before, so it's not as if they didn't care about her. They just didn't get a good trainer and didn't know better. They probably didn't know at the beginning that the dog could pass out from the choke chain. And when that started to happen they must have already been at their wits end and didn't know what else they could do because they were taught that she is a violent dog and the only way to "correct" that was with the choke chain. They aren't the bad people, the previous trainer was the bad person. If your training methods have more negative actions than positive, you shouldn't be training dogs.

This is so frustrating! Inexperienced owners have a low chance of knowing what is wrong and what is right and there are still so many “old-school” dog trainers running around. Especially in the US. But even in my own country I have already heard horror stories and I was sure that we had a good handle the problem. Guess I was wrong :( dog-training needs to be more regulated asap
