Not sure if you are citizens yet but we need to vote out our federal government. They are deficit spending and flooding the country with debt financed $$. That is fuel for inflation. The gov. to pay is also competing with us for loans and that drives up interests rates. New Canadians need to participate in the democracy. That is critical. Review and see which party supports your values.

Just an observation. You are living beyond your means. Trips, furniture, renovations, Peleton bike, expensive clothes, eating out.. etc etc. It’s no wonder you are concerned about money. People who earn much more than both of you, don’t do as much. It’s not that we don’t want too, but everything in progression. You can have it all, but not all at the same time. I’m sure if you adjust your spending for 6-12 months, things will be different. You both are still young and starting life, don’t end up in massive debt when you really don’t have too. Just my two cents 😊

Such a relatable video! My fiancé and I in October moved to USA, we both lived in Etobicoke! Being in our 30s and wanting to start a family it was becoming so unattainable to buy a house and save money in GTA! Also for whatever reason we found that our employers were not paying enough according to the inflation going on it was staying pretty stagnent! We are now in New York State and living way more comfortably and we are also saving money! Sometimes a big change is needed to get what you want out of life!

Pretty sure you're not in NYC. You'd run back here and never complain again once you see the cost of living over there. Interest rate issue is a global problem. When you applied for mortgage you showed your income from the full-time job you once had but weren’t planning to pursue that in the future, which means your affordability wasn’t as high as you had during your application. Then you went on to make a series of financial decisions like upgrading kitchen which actually was functional but wasn’t aesthetically pleasing for you, a new car whereas a used one could have done the job, new furniture like a bed whereas your old ikea bed could have been used for a little longer, Peleton bike during spring where you could have just chosen to go for a run, etc. The focus of this comment is not to point out the faults but to try and make you understand that the problem was self created in a way. Undoing so much of damage is complicated and entirely depends on the contracts you have for each of the debt you chose to get yourself into. Inflation is coming under control in most of the countries so the interest rates might have just reached its peak. You could consider to wait it off as the cost involved in moving is a lot higher than paying interest on this property.

Hey! On a friendly note, you might be an amazing person but I seriously think you gotta get more exposure to people who have real money troubles, like real living from paycheque to paycheque situation. There is Ikea and there is CB2, you buy a $600 pendant lamp from CB2 and a person living from PC to PC would probably get half of all their furniture at that price( from Ikea or secondhand or maybe free porch pickup even), they also want to buy that lamp from the expensive store but they simply can't. I am no one to judge you but this really gives me the vibe of "Ananya Pandey's struggle". If you wanna buy all the expensive stuff that's cool, that's your lifestyle but then you cannot complain about savings. If I have limited income and my lifestyle is such that I will only stay in Fairmont(just an example) and then if I complain to my friends that I am not saving anything, they would probably laugh at me. See I love you, this is not coming from a place of hate but I just think you gotta widen your exposure, that will keep you grounded. Rest, I live in Calgary, this is an amazing city, there are enough events all around the year, you can go to the mountains anytime and winter is not as bad as people think it is, I have lived in Ontario for a year and now in Calgary and I honestly find winters much better here cz it is sunny all the time, chinooks help a lot and I can ski as much as I want.
@Peekapoo

I appreciate your comment, but just want to clarify that right now, in the current situation where interest rates are at all time high, it's difficult to save. And the value for money is very low living in the GTA. So we were weighing our options, if we could still live the same life but have very low monthly for housing, we might be able to save more. Calgary is tempting if you compare it to GTA. And not all the things in my house are from expensive stores. I try to balance it out, and those are long term furniture pieces which we bought from our housing budget. And I'm not COMPLAINING about savings. Complaining is one thing. Sharing is one thing. Just wanted to share with you all my family and ask how Calgary as an option is? We could get BETTER VALUE FOR MONEY there. We only do things that we can afford, and not living beyond our means. But at the same time, everyone has their own way of living and have different priorities. But the crux is wanting to have low housing expenses so that we could be more stress free. And have a better value for our money spent. Hope that clarifies ❤ not everything is about cutting down expenses, there is one thing called better value for money which we long for. And thanks a lot for sharing about Calgary, its helpful 😊

Winter was so mild in Calgary compared to three winters I have experienced in Montreal with the exception of one week in Dec and one in Feb. In Jan there was no snow with grass visible and I was wearing half sweater outside as it was warm due to chinook. Also +5 of Toronto will be same as -5 to -10 of Calgary due to dry weather ( less moisture). Calgary is under rated if you ask me. We moved from Montreal last year to Calgary and it was the best decision ( if you have a job here). Job opportunities are less but people are also less and IT scene has grown over the past 2-3 years with big names like Accenture and some fintech companies as well. Don't just go by what you hear online as most people are still talking about Calgary of 2017/2018 or earlier. I just spoke to a friend who is moving from Ontario and he scored a job in IT (City of Calgary govt job) job in 2 weeks, so I don't believe when people say there are no IT jobs, there are but you need to see if they are in your field of interest and if you have enough experience to meet the posted jobs criteria.

Hey Pooja, I'm actually from the Caribbean (the tropics) and I migrated last year with my husband. We did research and realise ontario was too expensive so we came to Calgary. I was just as skeptical as you in terms of weather and things to do., but boy was I wrong! Calgary is beautiful and clean and way cheaper! There are tons to do! The weather gets pretty intense sometimes but it doesn't last long and the chinooks help alot! Also, Calgary is the sunniest city in Canada so you would love that! We are surrounded by mountains and nature! Banff is not far away as well. Trust me, you won't regret it. I think a lot of Canadians are in this situation. I know it's a hard time too, but if you can tough it out during these hard times, trust me, when things recover in a couple of years your property will appreciate more, it will be way better overall. Alberta is really hard choice we also thought about investing in there but because they rely so much on the fuel/gas industry. When these industries diminish in the next 10-20 years, you're going to have to make hard calls at that time.

If they move to Calgary or anywhere else, they will need to sell their home, buy another home, hire movers for a cross country move, all of this costs a lot of money. They would be spending at least ten thousand dollars. But if they decide to rent out their spare room or just manage their expenses then they will be okay because this is only temporary, the interest rates will go back down. I lived in Calgary, it’s a beautiful place to live. The snow is extreme but it comes with the sun. Also, you get chinooks which are warm sunny days that randomly pop up in the winter. Calgary has a better standard of living, people have better houses, cars, and eat out more. There are good restaurants.

I dont know about moving somewhere else but pls be aware of the thing that all the profit you make by selling your stuff here will easily be vanished in no time. As they say, "paisa paani ki tarah hota hai, kab khatam ho jaaye pata bhi nahi chalega". So i think, its better you stay at same place and think of multiple business opportunities/part time job or anything else to add to your income.. Also, if you could manage or cut down your daily little expenses, that will make a huge difference at the end of the day. Lastly, dont stress but plan wisely and stay happy❤

Hi Pooja, me and my wife were also discussing the same last week and we were also in oakville downtown lakeshore yesterday thinking the same. We ran some analytics and finally decided to move to east end of toronto considering the living cost, jobs and opportunities here in GTA. Believe me, there are still good properties to buy under 800k. To us, oakville is definitely our final destination but only once we have huge pockets. :)

Hey Pooja, I know a lot of people are worried about this whole inflation and interest rates thing that's going on everywhere. But don't base your long-term decisions on this. It's not gonna stay crazy high forever. Right now, it looks like interest rates in Canada are gonna hit their peak in about six months or so. And there might just be one more rate hike of around 0.25% before they start coming down. In about two-two and a half years, they should settle back down to around 3.5% or so. And your mortgage payments will become easier to handle by then. ( I work in investments so that you know I am not pulling this from thin air 🙂). Thought you'd feel better knowing all this.

Do you think the mortgage rate will come back to normal by 2025?
@user-ys1fy8fu3m
@user-ys1fy8fu3m Жыл бұрын
@@ankitaahuja111 Investment markets are currently pricing in rates to peak at about 4.75% for Canada. Which is a central bank rate. Off course, your mortgage rate will be about 15% to 2.0% higher than this because your bank has to make money; the central bank rate is expected to fall to 3.5% in two years' time, and by the end of 2026, it is expected to fall just under 3.0%. Once central bank rates fall, if you are on a variable rate, it should fall (maybe with a bit of delay) as well. Your bank could be still greedy and might not pass on the full savings, but yes, they should fall. Having said that, it is very difficult to see them falling back to, say 2019-2020 levels.

just have patience,2023 is bad for all of us. The best way right now is to sell out this house and come back to condo for sometime(in case if ur pocket is so tight). I believe you wont be in loss. N next time when you buy new house- my advise is to have rentable income thru your basement. I bought a condo in 550k at the same time when you bought your townhouse. I did make equity of 100k and now moving out to a rentable house.. Everything should come step by step and we all learn from our mistakes. Buying house in Canada is just like changing cloths. Jyada dil se lagaane ki zarurat nahi hai❤

My sincere suggestion: Sell your beautiful GTA home & buy a similar beautiful home in Calgary to cut your mortgage payments into half. Calgary is sooo beautiful, close to Banff, Jasper National park, closer to Vancouver and so much more affordable and quite exciting too. And as far as cold is concerned, I think people just hype it.

Moving is definitely not a easy task and it requires thorough understanding of all pros & cons and then coming to a right decision. Me and my family moved from New Zealand to Canada 15 years ago. But next month we are moving back to our home country ( NZ) after a through conclusion and discussion. Canada inflation has gone over the limit & we can’t ignore the weather. Hey, I moved from living in Toronto's core downtown for years to Calgary. And for me, it was the best decision ever. 1. Winters - Yes, people think winters are crazy in Calgary.. but honestly, it's not. Calgary is dry, so the winters are a lot more bearable(Comparison: -15 in Toronto is comparable to -25 in Calgary). 2. Love the sun: It's super sunny. 300 days of the sun makes winters enjoyable and fun (super sunny winners, not gloomy). And don't forget the chinooks; for every 1 week of -20, there would be 3 to 4 for +5. 3. Things to do in Calgary - There are very few downtown things to do in Calgary (Especially if you compare to Toronto) But tons and tons of outdoorsy things to do (If you don't like outdoor stuff, that's a different story). 4. Friendlier people - People are more helpful and friendlier here than in Toronto. Strangers would stop, take time and chat with you. Your neighbors know you and look out for you. 5. Cost of living - Lower tax (5% vs. 13%), Cheaper housing, and Food prices at restaurants might be the same, but the portion is huge (But this is subjective). 6. Jobs - Yes, moving with a job is advisable. There are definitely fewer opportunities as compared to Toronto. But it depends on which sector. and things are improving. BTW, oil and gas also have IT openings. 7. Pace of life - It's peaceful; some people like it, others hate it. But it depends on what you value more. Note: If you are thinking about Calgary only because it's cheap, you might eventually regret your decision. Think about what you enjoy and value more. All the best

Moving to Calgary May not solve all of your problems. Or in other words might solve one problem and arise two new problems. You should considering selling your current place and buy a place in oshwa or Hamilton with basement. Rent the basement to cover some part of mortgage.

I hear you! Depending on the followers in Canada, maybe do a small token paid Q & A signing session in person? As for inflation, yes its really hurting, but it helps to cut down on additional costs, as for moving to Calgary, I think there is some misconception on their winters, its less dark there, the sun always shines through many cold winter days, lots of winter based fun things...like watching northern lights, polar bear watching, living in a Yurt etc (although thats even further north). Someone I know is moving away from Canada, cheaper to move to somewhere in Caribbean since they work remotely anyway and you can still do your videos from there...rent out ur place for that time? Maybe even get a housemate if u have an extra bedroom, will help cover costs.

Selling the house might be a tedious and enervating affair. Before making a final decision to move out, you can consider getting a second job or finding any other way to create an additional stream of income in the short run. Also, you could try and make some lifestyle changes and curb your spending at least for a short while - a year or 2 until the recession passes. It is true that you will not get to live life the way you want, but nevertheless, it would be a sacrifice that you should make for a short while so that it leads to a better future. Now, from what I've seen from your vlogs, I would say that there has been amazing progress in terms of experiences, and lifestyle. Nonetheless, these are dire circumstances, the recession may pass soon but what's to say there won't be another hit to the economy because of all the geopolitical tensions around the world. Hence, I would ask you to also be dynamic and learn about day trading, investing, and wealth building in general. Best of luck to both of you!

So even though your expenses might go down a bit most probably your income will take a hit too. I have over 10 years of overseas experience in Oil and Gas but yet have struggle to find a job. Also, its noticeable and can be clearly seen your partner’s not happy several times in the video. Just love each other and be real that would help you connect with your audience better. It is not too crowded and Calgary is surrounded by beautiful mountains and lakes, where we spend our time during weekends in summer. And it’s a myth that weather conditions here are harsh. It is no at all windy like Toronto. Since Calgary is surrounded by mountains, we receive warm winds here in winter due to which the temperature goes to positive degrees in winters!! We also recently bought a house on the hills in Calgary. It is worth it!! The house buying process was very smooth. Let us know if you need more information. Thanks.

The first thing is being on a variable rate specially this time it is just crazy unless you ahve not overshooted with your mortgage payments in terms how bug they are compared to your income. As of now you can get a fixed rate for about 4.8% which I think it is good. You can try to refinance your mortgage with another bank like CIBC and get it fixed for 5 years. Also it is good to make some once off payments during the year to reduce the interest overpayment etc. Alberta is nice, in terms of jobs it is also good. We are in New Brunswick at the moment and a lot of people are moving to this province. You might consider this as well. This is why when you take your mortgage you have to also take into consideration things that might happen in the future including broken economy etc. A lot of people are maxing out on their mortgages and they can barely afforded once things will go bad :(
