Your love of seeds is inspiring. We know as old men that our time is limited. But this is in our soul. ❤

I worked in a garden centre years ago for a while. They were dumping bags of flower seeds & i asked if i could take a bag home. I put the bag in my shed & forget about it. 5 years later i found the bag & i planted some seeds, they all came up!!. & over the next ten years i planted more they also all grew, i was amazed!!

I used to be an avid seed collector. I'd grab seeds from anything I came across, with boxes of seeds in little baggies. I was always amazed when some of the older seeds would still germinate, even after 5-10 years.

Very nice video! To propagate from cuttings and seeds is so nice and easy and a real enrichment for our hobby. And also: it costs about nothing and is really very well possible to do for everyone. And maybe, maybe it also teaches us a bit of patience: you can't do without it when creating, nursing and taking care for bonsaï, I think... I salute you, mr Chan!

Just love seed collecting in autumn. Is hard to beat the squirrels to them sometimes 😅. Is one of nature's miracles that amazing trees can grow from such a tiny thing; like Alder n birch seeds

I love germinating seeds. This year was the first that I collected Japanese Maples. They're stratifying in my garden now, and hopefully, I have a bunch of seedlings in the spring. I just don't understand Peter's comments about Wisteria, though. I just can't get it to germinate.

Nice, they remind me of really small chestnut seeds. I have about 20 or so American Chestnuts seeds in my refrigerator. Im hoping to continue my grandfather's Virginia chestnut tree here in Tennessee.

I have been trying to grow Japanese maple and lace leaf maples for years but I get seedlings and they die in a few days. This year I'm trying again with a few pine seeds as well. I'm going to be using a little green house thing where you put the seed pods in I will add the clear top after they start to sprout up. Hopefully I get new seed lings

You showed some oak sprouts growing in between... You know birds hide the seeds in the ground for winter reserve. Oaks can be used for bonsai, many like an old oak bonsai. There beautiful and native to North-West Europe. Why dont you try a few yourself and cultivate them as bonsai. I would love to see the results. Many thanks for the so learningfull videos and the insights of the Herons nursery.

@@peterchan3100 Yeah, horse chestnut is nice too. You might do a video on these 2 tree species. I got some quercus-robur also called the summer oak. You might have some tips you can show. I really would appreciate it.

Will you sell beech seeds and ship to USA?
@peterchan3100Ай бұрын
You are not allowed to bring seeds into USA
@jamesa7506Ай бұрын
As disappointing as this may be, it is done for very good reasons, some of which are: the introduction of pests and non-native, invasive plants that can cause great harm to native horticulture and environments.

I am sure they do. The flowers look similar but fruit turn out different.

Awsome.. Any luck with the tree theives 😢? I have a moon maple thay produces a ton of seeds.. but due to the fact its a hybrid im not sure they are fertile.

The Police are not interested from what I gather - they hold no hope of finding the thieves or the trees.
@h.b.1421Ай бұрын
just try it, they may surprise you 😀. Usually, even if it is a hybrid, they should germinate. They may have different leaves or fruits than the parents, but grow they will. That is the nature of seeds.

Air layering or cloning the "parent" tree is the best way to get an exact copy but who knows what grand tree you'll get if the seeds do germinate.
