I'm so glad that I'm not the only person who has watched this movie and thought that it was absolutely amazing and that it hit the mark on the bullseye. I'm reading a lot of negative reviews and they're clearly from people who aren't in the narrow demographic who this is targeted to but in fact you aren't quite in that narrow demographic either because you're not 40 you're 25 and you still seem to have full appreciation for what this movie is. I was I'm 39. Jonah Hill produced this he's 41. This is targeted toward a narrow demographic that I think Jonah Hill and I both fit into as lovers of late 90s music and also proud computer nerds of that era and this was just so easy for me to relate to and appreciate. What I would give to wake up tomorrow in 1999 instead of in 2024. I mean I wouldn't have more of your reviews to look forward to for a really long time for like a quarter of a century but you know what I just discovered you 19 minutes ago and I'd get over that because I really liked a lot of things about 1999 and my experiences around the Y2K era as I transformed from a boy into a man of sorts

the music: Tubthumping (by Chumbawamba), Praise You (Fatboy Slim), My Own Worst Enemy (Lit), What's My Age Again (Blink 182), Every Morning (Sugar Ray), Tearin' Up My Heart (N Sync), No Scrubs (TLC), Freak on a Leash (Korn), the Thong Song (Sisqo), Closing Time (Semisonic) & of course, that Limp Bizkit guy (Fred Durst). the video shop (immediately, I'm thinking of those "Clerks" movies by filmmaker, Kevin Smith). Scream is a classic horror homage film series, like Scary Movie (with the Wayans family: Marlon and Shawn).

Cool review, thanks.. I definitely planned on checking this one out.. and yeah we've all made a bong out of a Gatorade or water bottle ha.. I'm bout to go on a 1999/Y2K rant, but it's just from my vantage point.. 1999 was honestly a crazy ass year, you could tell the decade was coming into the end and we were heading into the future.. it's one of my favorite years for pop culture, the good and bad shaped what was to come.. Eminem debuted to the masses.. Columbine happened and the media coverage was nuts, they were blaming Marilyn Manson and movies like Pulp Fiction.. you had Woodstock '99 which was bittersweet because of the dark aspects, it was Rock N Roll's last hurrah imo.. Hip-hop, Nu-metal, and bubblegum pop were all in high demand.. lots a classic films were released.. and the Y2K hysteria was very real, they really hyped it up lol, but you just didn't know with the computers.. I know there's a computer bug where something similar can happen in 2038.. and I know I always find a way to bring Ricci into the conversation lol, but I'd be remissed if I didn't state that she was literally at her mainstream pinnacle during the height of the Y2K craziness in Nov & Dec, she was the reining indie queen and the "anti it girl", everywhere with Sleepy Hollow, hosting SNL, cover of Rolling Stone magazine, she truly was the moment as we entered 2000, so she and Y2K go hand in hand.. And yeah comedies are great.. I always say humor is subjective because it's true.. 2020s feels like the first decade to not embrace comedies.. my guess is that studios are afraid to offend.. they were still pumping out wild comedies in the 2010s.. there's been a few this decade, but a clear decline.. but humor, like horror, is timeless, so hopefully they find some sort of balance, sounds like they might have with this one.. and Tubthumping is arguably the defining song of the 90s imo.. and Thong Song was huge, shit got wild when that song played lmao.. if nothing else I bet this film has a great soundtrack!

Nice review! Part of the ship part of the crew!! I was hearing a lot of people say this wasn’t good or it went downhill in the second half but I liked it overall! I’m glad you did too. The main kid reminded me a lot of myself when I was that age lol. Also cool seeing cameos from Mason from 5cream and the boyfriend from Halloween 2018 as the hippie dudes in the Kollective haha I loved the party scene! Even though the thong song the chubby kid sings didn’t get really big until the year 2000 but it was still fun. I especially liked how all the different cliques at the party were basically music genres of the time personified. Like trance, ska, hip-hop, and nu-metal! (My favorite lol) Fred Durst and his band limp bizkit were the peak of that genre but Korn is the real pioneers of it. White guys with dreads! Hahaha It’s crazy seeing how the internet was in its infancy at the time. All the hacking reminded me of Jurassic park lol and the main bad guy in the computer looked like the lawnmower man! But I thought it was crazy how, when they explained the machines being like a hive mind, I wondered why they didn’t reference the matrix. I mean it was literally one of the biggest movies of 1999 and basically told a similar story of the machines enslaving humanity. And on that note, the whole microchipping peoples brains doesn’t seem to science fiction anymore thanks to musk and intellilink ugh it’s so gross seeing tech take over like that. That’s why i really liked the ending with Fred durst singing to the crowd. Music, art, and anything creative is what liberates us from the dull monotonous machines and helps us to connect to our fellow hoomans! So glad I play guitar, it keeps me inspired. Overall, i had a great time with this movie. It reminded me of how innocent a time it was before 9/11 and all that’s come from that. I truly believe we’re still living in that shadow to this day and nothing has gotten any better, just worse. But hey, at least this movie is a good time and knows it’s self aware, and not like that 2012 movie. Remember when we all thought the world was gonna end cuz the Mayan calendar ran outta days?! Hahaha Also I remember the George Lopez show had an episode of them singing tub thumping! Classic! Weird thing about them, every band member is an anarchist! And damn, even I know who kid laroi is lol. Thank you my dark mistress for the review!

I have not seen this movie yet, but wait I’m going to see a screen unseen tonight at the AMC. My Y2K story. I worked Building Automation in a for several buildings in downtown SLC Utah. So let say we had a few computers running everything and I had to stay through Midnight for the time and date to roll over. Crazy time, no one was sure the software would roll over the time and date. The building could have shutdown and everything would go dark., bummer, didn’t happen. I didn’t even get overtime. 🤨 Ever time I see a review of Nosferatu I change the channel. So looking forward to it. 👍😁 47% critic review, what do they know. So I’ll cut it before the spoilers because it may be my Screen Unseen movie tonight. Gee, looks like you’re feeling better. You were so lively in this review.

And I can't lie, I was on a weird side of the internet, I had a mix of things kids had growing up in the 2000s even though I really grew up in the 2010s, which was still fun. Except the clothing choices. But I also had no clue who Fred Durst was until I actually looked him up. I do want to watch this, I'm probably gonna wait until it's on streaming though 😅

soooo i saw this is a nearly empty theater with my gf. late showing on friday. it still ripped. was i laughing the loudest? yes. agreed w the superbad vibes, but not in a bad way. loved it. danny was on the money. on the subject of in character jokes, idk if you’ve seen the big lebowski but it is one of my all time favs, its a stroooong example of characters that have distinct voices, like walter is so walter. no one else would say what he says. its great. also 90s!! i threw it on the ground lmaoo my dad’s not a phone, duhhh kyle mooney had a distinct voice on snl, tim heidecker was the main characters dad and he has a similar nostalgic and absurd comedy vibe. apples, bananas, cans, gatorade bottles. stoners would do well in the apocalypse lmao. big agree, this movie isn’t trying to be smart of clever or subversive, its trying to be fun and good which it is!! movies should be good and fun lmao. esp comedies. also i feel like making it a comedy-horror makes it easier to greenlight since low budget horrors have been poppin moreso than low budget comedies. the editing and soundtrack… (spoilers) farkas’ death with the limp bizkit needle drop was too good. funny and emotional enough to feel believeable. loved it. (spoilers) i think the relatively early deaths of danny, farkas, and chris served the story a lot because it allowed the remaining characters to bond and find out who they are without a more dominant personality kind of leading or encouraging them. its like instant maturity/an arc for the character. yeah i was in denial that danny was going to die so early. but it served the story!! lmao the kollective was so great, esp as a floridian. its a universal experience hahaha omg fred durst is a 90s icon. limp bizkit!!! that red hat moment was so iconic hahah the fact that him and wes boreland (limp bizkit guitarist) lived was so hilarious imo lol. so agreed with the tropes, it was so 90s it could pull off the hacking through the backdoor/the hq for the bad guy is their high school vibe hahah and like the plot doesn’t matter. the bits do. loved the practical fx and the little robots. great props and fx. wild that there hasn’t been a movie on the subject that rips like this.
