I honestly had no answer other than. "I don't think that is going to work honey." So she claimed I was being too controlling for not letting her play what she wanted. I run a game with my wife as a player, and its great. One of the other players was elected team leader, and my wife's character likes to wander off on her own. So now if they don't know where she is, the entire party begins yelling, "eyes on Harmony". The saying is so common, its become something we use even irl when our 18 month daughter starts being a bit quite while we're playing.
@raw04312 жыл бұрын
Generally if player characters make a habit of wandering off alone, they dont come back. The party may find an area that looks like it had a scuffle, but they do not find that character until a couple sessions later, bound , gagged, beaten and hopefully humbled. If that doesnt work, the character is never found.

Yes, I have experienced a spouse ruining a campaign, but not because she was an active participant in the group. She would just constantly interrupt what we were doing because she 'needed to talk to her husband' who was also the DM. All of her super important questions were things that could have waited until we were done with each session. When we tried to game at another location, she'd blow up his phone the entire time he was out, and if he didn't answer his cell she'd call the home line. She was so jealous of him spending time with anyone but her she couldn't allow him to focus on anything or anyone else. She was a total nutcase. Game fell apart in a few weeks of that nonsense, and a few years later they were divorced.

Apparently she got scared while walking and started having nightmares of people attacking him. She started to throttle him in his sleep, though nothing serious. Then she wanted to keep a knife by the bed, in case someone broke in. He put his foot down about that, no knives! He was certainly one of the more entertaining professors I had. This wasn't a young junior professor either. He was the chair and probably 50 y/o.

If you'll allow me an overused phrase, he's a cuck. Her character, who let's be real here is a self-insert, was going around screwing and blowing all kinds of NPCs, who were very obviously NOT the DM's self-insert. She got off on cucking him, and he was such a simp he wouldn't refuse. Honestly, killing the civilians to stop the summoning I can actually see a paladin doing for the greater good. Depending on the deity (and I don't know much about 5e really) this may be allowed in such a circumstance. However, attempting to murder civilians to leave no witnesses should have caused her to fall, no debate, discussion, or lawyering.

I got my wife into D&D a year ago (to my very pleasant surprise). We played a session of D&D Duet. She loved it, but said it would probably be more fun with other people. So, I invited my teenage son and my best friend into the game to form the party. Several months later, I invited another friend in to help me with a complicated NPC. She rolled up her own character and stuck around. I have told them in so many words, "You guys are a gaming group because my wife wanted one. Feel free to feel used." Apparently I'm running a good game because they seem to enjoy being used in this way. I listen to my players and employ their feedback. The wife loves playing hostess. The friends love being guests. If the game is just for the wife, why involve the other players? Just make it a solo campaign and stop involving other people with this weird ass nonsense. My spouse and I both DM, but thankfully we're both scared of the stereotype of the DM's SO getting special treatment, so we mutually do our best to avoid that. We even play characters in each other's games where it would be a huge stretch for any sort of sex or romance to occur (he's playing a barbarian that's too focused on revenge to care, while my bard is ace and just wants to survive the damn mega-dungeon) My spouse plays no favorites. Granted, my character has been kidnapped by monsters an absurd amount of times, but that is more or less cuz 1) Dungeon of the Mad Mage has a lot of monsters with grabby abilities 2) my bard's rolls are VERY unlucky to avoid getting grappled or paralyzed, and 3) my spouse runs the dungeon like its own ecosystem, and the monster's strategy in a fight is usually "grab an adventurer to eat, then book it out of there." We did have a funny/awesome moment where my bard got nabbed by a hungry carrion crawler and it tried to run away, but our necromancer was able to stop him by attempting to grapple the creature, rolled with disadvantage due to the sizing rules, then got not one but TWO nat 20's. So my spouse described it as a moment of hysterical strength and the necromancer was able to stall its movement while the party caught up to kill it. Good times, good times.

Barbarian spot a child decides he wants to be a father and kidnapps the kid in broad daylight. They flee the village being chased by a raging mob of villagers. And eventually manage to lose them in the woods, the kid is terrified and still hasn't got a clue why they kidnapped him. The party makes up camp tie the kid now named billy to a tree and have a good night sleep. Next day they manage to calm down billy and persuade him to become part of their group training him to be a master thief. Fast forward they are in the cathacombs of an old church where the same old man they helped in the start is trying to ressurect a lich. They send in billy to scope out the dungeon on his own. Billy now sneaking trough a skeleton infested dungeon gets spotted and screams for help. The party runs out of the church fleeing the village leaving billy behind. Everyone takes their pick and I'm left with a small gold colored gem than NO ONE ELSE WANTED. so everyone's loot had magical properties so I asked the party's wizard to identify my item like she did for the whole group and hand it to her when I do the DM describes how it glows and transforms into a tiny dragon that is now bonded to the wizard....... Who is his girlfriend. (dragon is just a cool little pet character no actual combat value just a cool little thing). Jump 3 months later to a session that takes place on my birthday. Dm sets up a scene where on my night watch I encounter a mysterious stranger who happens to be a genie who's going to "grant me a small wish for some little item like a bag of holding or a +1 to one of my weapons" while explaining he tells me it can't be anything game breaking or some insane request which I thought was not only fair but a cool little birthday present. So I'm thinking about what to pick and all of a sudden the wizard says she "sensed the magic of the genie" and woke up from a dead sleep to see what was going on and some how MY small birthday wish became her EXTREMELY GAME BREAKING WISH WHERE HER POCKET DRAGON BECAME A GIANT GOLD DRAGON WHO CALLED HER MOM! -_-

I would've just kept saying "Lawful Good" over and over any time she did... basically any of that. Also, not really a story of favoritism, almost the opposite actually. Back in 3.5 (I think, it was a LONG time ago) I was playing in a group with a friend who was playing a satyr. A satyr could play their pipes and to cast fear, sleep or charm person on every creature within 60 feet... only the DM house ruled that it affecting other players would be too much trouble for fast and fun play, therefore it only affected enemies. This would have been great except the DM was using a premade campaign and didn't adjust any of the enemies to compensate for this house rule. A few sessions later when awarding exp, the DM said something along the lines of "It feels cheap that you're using your pipes to put everything to sleep, so I'm only giving you half exp. You need to be more creative in how you play!" My friend was NOT a happy camper that night.

Well no its just now the mage or ranged player is in the air attacking from their leaving the encounter for those on the ground to attack. its the same mindset for the op problem. It doesnt ruin the encounter to have enemies fall asleep (idk 3.5 rules) but it ruins the fun for the dm. Its like instakilling the BBEG in a single turn. Removing the mcguffin from the game. Or similar things. Im not saying the DM of op post was correct but I will defend telling a player "dude please be more creative than just spamming the same ability that ruins my encounter. A dm I had (it was a westmarch server) created a BBEG half elf (or true elf) for the adv on wis saves. Than after we defeat the enemies I got the least amount of rewards (I got gold while everyone else got a magic item or was instantly favored by a npc who was a high lvl druid) and his reason was because "you summoned a demon and it went berserk and did nothing else" ignoring me getting the mom (plot was save her kid from a forest invested by faerie dragons which made her queen of the forest and a high lvl druid) from the bbeg made to counter my abilities of debuffs or the demon I summoned tanking majority of the damage and distracting the enemies. and refused the fact he built the encounter against me and gave me lesser rewords "cause wizards need gold" I was only given 150gp vs their rewards of a magic item that allow a druid to wildshape into a faerie dragon and the other player instantly best friend/elder sister status to if i recall a lvl 15-18 druid "queen of the forest" and 15 gp. On the server if the druid sold the magic item she would of got 5d10*10+25gp so 75-525 gold. The other player used the npc for plot related stuff. There was more bs I could go into but wont at this time This kind of bs is more what I get upset about than a dm asking for more creativity (still did it in the wrong way) than spamming a cheese ability.

I would've tried to kill the wife's character after being dropped in the chasm, kinda hard to dodge arrows and spells coming straight down at you. As far as why? She's obviously evil and I know I'd be praised by the order she belongs to for purging evil from their ranks
@melodywhispersong95412 жыл бұрын
She would have become an oathbreaker at that point
@firstswordcorvus73682 жыл бұрын
I'm aware, but it's said in the story that her husband is playing favorites and even though he's the DM he allows whatever his wife wants. I know she should've been made an oathbreaker, she has her husband white knighting for her hard or is it simping? Think it's the same thing, but not entirely sure. I bet they're always wondering why most of the party keeps leaving them long before the campaign reaches the end. Anyway rambling aside, I didn't mention it cause I thought it was obvious enough just listening to the story. And I hope in the future those 2 play by themselves and not drag other people to endure her main character syndrome, or better yet I hope she's called out for it and people tell that DM, her husband, that that's why nobody else is having fun at their table and leaving
@FrosTehBurr2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like the husband’s a simp. No player should be allowed to do any of the stuff she did.

Not the DM but the owner of the home where we played. I was DMing. His wife was an asassin that he helped create. She could basically do everything. My answer was to give her what she wanted. I treated her like a Mafia princess. Doors were always opened for her etc. She always made her kills. No one knew that I added extra monsters to every fight just for her to kill. It worked out.

I think this is more along the line of "my wife demands I make the game for her otherwise im sleeping in the garage" than favoritism. Like it is but its very clear he did try to make the game enjoyable for everyone else... just a happy wife is a happy life... she is very controlling and probably forcing her way into every game and than demands stuff and he caves in to avoid being destroyed after the game ends
@hollowblaze23202 жыл бұрын
I would tag her and said..."Bye Felicia."

Man, the art just keeps getting better and better, it feels like. Cringe story though, for sure. Feel like the DM should have made that explicit from the get-go. That the campaign was catered to his wife, I mean.
@johnevans57822 жыл бұрын
In over 35 years of playing and some truly stupefying and crazy stuff. (Inluding one DM allowing his Girlfriend to play an actual fairy dragon as a PC) I have NEVER heard of anyone quite as crazy as this guy's wife. Even crazier is the idea that the DM actually thought other people would play in a a game he was running that allowed her to do anything and everything she wanted, and that he would bend reality to let her kill any other player who dares to disagree with her, This is a couple who seriously need to set up a solo campaign and leave other people alone.

if your gonna play a game centered on one person just play one on one, why make everyone else suffer.
@cullenlatham23662 жыл бұрын
Well, credit to the DM for 1) showing no obvious favoritism during the session itself, and 2) being completely honest about intentions. The story would have been so much worse if the DM said "no" to the dispel, or just generally gave advantages to the wife at the expense of other players. Yes, the steed in itself was BS, as was the obvious avoidance of fatal actions such as falling in the pit, but both could be chalked up to the DM's style. death adverse games exist, and that does not make them bad just because death is not an option.
@milesmatheson11422 жыл бұрын
DM is, very obviously, a simp. They should just D&D alone, if that's what they want- leave other, serious, roleplayers out of it.

if you're DMing for one persons fun then why have anyone else play
@Lucais19892 жыл бұрын
Yeah. Pretty sure the wife of DM reason I was removed from the last d&d group was part of nearly two years ago. Hooked up with a Witcher group early this year but because covid only had two sessions so far

Woman certainly made people uncomfortable, but if those details at the end were told to ever player joining all of this could've been avoided. Lady should know if something thats so lascivious happens it could make others uncomfortable, players and DMs should make sure everyone is on the same page y'all. The DM is embarrassing and for sure could have handled the situation better, but OP should not be trying to kill someone and not expect or understand retaliation. Letting your character's emotions bleed into real-life is a lot easier than one might think. If shit goes down IG we all know it extends to people's real emotions, everyone has seen it. it happens all the time, we get invested in the stories we tell. You can communicate to players and see if they would want to be involved in PCvsPC drama before jumpin in full force. If you don't like the way someone else plays talks to them about it, please. Try to find a middle ground. If that can't be reached then its okay to look elsewhere for more agreeable (to you) tablemates. but again, the DM and their spouse certainly at fault as well. Be good to each other, y'all. please

Nope. I would have told the dM if that is his only reason. For dming he should do solo campaigns for just his wife and him.

Yeah, no. Magic Realming? Main Character Syndrom? No thanks. If I were this player, I would start my own game, invite everyone from the group, including GM and his wife. If she started trying any of the stuff she did in GM's game, I would shut it down, letting her know that it doesn't fly with me.

You pointed out a couple of the evil things a supposedly "lawful good paladin of devotion" did... but you totally missed sexually assaulting and then murdering a prisoner of war. That dm and his wife are the reason d&d had such a bad reputation for decades. You should have named and shamed them in your local community so that nobody would have to deal with their shit.
@willparry5302 жыл бұрын
Prisoner of war? They didn't take any of the orcs prisoners. Otherwise just as you said.
@Tinmann_772 жыл бұрын
@@willparry530 she took control of the orc using charm, after all the others were dead, it was their prisoner. That makes it a prisoner of war. She then sexually assaults it. Then she murders her prisoner. Both are war crimes, and I'd like to know which god/goddess she follows that thinks raping prisoners and murdering prisoners is a good thing.
@willparry5302 жыл бұрын
@@Tinmann_77 I too would like to know that. Still don't think it counts as it being a prisoner of war. Prisoner implies they've been locked or tied up. Admittedly, though, it's a bit of a pedantic point when I agree with literally everything else you've said. If this was being run fairly there would be a forced alignment shift at the very _least._
@Tinmann_772 жыл бұрын
@@willparry530 no. Prisoner doesn't mean being locked or tied up. It means you were captured. Just because you lock or tie up captured prisoners to reduce their ability to escape, does not mean they must be locked or tied up to be a prisoner. Just think about all the soldiers who were captured in war and marched while not being tied or locked up to an internment camp, they were simply held under guard... Group of 4-5 people with weapons surrounding an orc who is disarmed and captured.... sounds alot like 4-5 vietcong surrounding a captured soldier/airman who's been disarmed and captured. You gonna say that soldier/airman isn't considered a prisoner of war? And I agree, if it was being run fairly, she'd be forced to chaotic evil, her god/goddess would spurn her, and the foulest most evil god/goddess would take interest in her.
@willparry5302 жыл бұрын
@@Tinmann_77 I would say that someone isn't a prisoner until they are secure, yes. :P But I did admit to pedantism and it's not really relevant to the important bit of the character's actions (and the player's) being despicable.
