I think all kids are different but this is ridiculous. I had very dry skin from a young age & my mom had to fight with me for me to use it until she left the choice to me. About a year later I started doing my own skincare but I was using stuff like inexpensive aloe Vera gel, Vitamin C & E gel then a drugstore moisturizer. I started that when I was 10 but it was needed. I also bought all my own stuff after my mom financially cut me off at age 11 so I worked very hard at a babysitter/live in nanny & house/pet sitter. I was cut off cause I got a job instead of being part of a summer camp program cause the camp nurse needed childcare or they’d shut it down during the special 2 weeks of learning adventure camp my dad ran. That left my mom w/out somewhere to send me for the summer so I had to buy all my clothes & skincare/haircare, not easy when you have crazy curly hair. I worked very hard to earn that money & I wish my parents had let working be encouraged but not necessary to my survival. I wish they’d bought me clothes, skincare, food etc. but at least I had more control over my life but that made me have to be my own parent since my parents had lost interest in being my parents. I even had to pay for college when my sister only had to go & was only expected to find a husband not get a degree. I could never put a kid through what my parents put me through, it made it so I stayed in relationships with guys I didn’t really want to be with but once I was to busy running my mom’s home to have a job outside the house it was nice to have someone who would buy me the necessities. I stayed with a guy from age 16 to 3 months before my 18th birthday mainly cause he could afford to pay for things since he was a few years older & working for a living. I would never want my daughter to have to feel so desperate to have what she needed that she stayed with a guy that cheated on her for all but 3 months of the relationship would kill me, I swore I would never be like her. Since she passed away (I was very young when it happened) I found out that I have an allergy to gluten & it’s made having cheap skincare a thing of the past. If I had a daughter now with everything I know now that I didn’t know as a teenager I would have to make sure that I knew my own child’s status since it’s a hereditary issue so I would want to give her the life I needed but I wouldn’t be letting my kid act like this cause my kid wouldn’t have cell phone access until a certain age & once I did it would be one that kept me in charge of her not having social media access. I would also not be the type of mom to put my kids on social media except when being shared privately with family by me. I would want to have a good relationship with my daughter while also making sure that she was learning what she needed to know. I would probably give her the read a book or play outside childhood I had minus having to take care of my 5 year older blind sister, no kid should be forced to care for a sibling it’s too much pressure for a kid. I would want to encourage my kid to find the types of jobs I had if they wanted extra money but I wouldn’t make them give up their childhood for it. I don’t know if I’ll ever have kids but if I do I can already imagine how frustrating it could be since social media brings a lot of unnecessary unneeded drama to a household SMH!

The problem is that she sees her classmates using all this stuff and also consuming Social Media and of course she wants too. That's why I am so pissed about parents not parenting! I am a hairdresser and learned also a lot about Skin and I can at least explain my daughter why it will cause more harm than good. Also why does a 9 year old have Acrylic nails?? I’m 13 and I hate being associated with these kids. when i was 10 i had no routine. when I was 11, I started washing my face with a cerave face wash. I had the same routine when I was 12. then now at 13 the only things I added are byoma under eye cream (i got a mini one in an advent calendar) and an eyelash serum. I’m about to be 14 and i’m not planning on adding anything. i have been in Sephora about 5 times in my entire life (mostly with friends) and ulta like 3 times and never for myself. i was a VERY extreme ipad kid bc i was an only child with busy parents (which is not a valid excuse but that was the main reason) but i do not act like this and i like to think i have good social skills. i know what you can’t do in public. sometimes I have to remind my mom what not to do!

Hayley, I'll be 62 this March. My skincare routine? I shower. Don't use soap on my face. Give my face a good scrub with the washcloth to remove dead skin. Maybe use a little vitamin c cream on my face after...if I remember. Do I look like I'm still 30? Nope. Do I look like a shriveled witch? Also nope. I look like a healthy 60+ year old woman. I came here to say the same thing. I'm a millennial myself. I'm 34. I have 3 biological kids. I also have step children whom are older than my bio children. My husband is a young Gen X. We absolutely no way in hell would allow this. We don't even spend that kind of money on our own skincare! I honestly fear the self-confidence issues that this type of behavior and idea of needing such a complex can care routine at such a young age may cause. Our teens use the brand CeraVe, bc that's what was recommended by my dermatologist.

Once when I wanted a 3$ moisturizer, my mom was an actual good mom and said “no, you are too young , maybe for Christmas or when you are older.” That is an example of how these gen alpha kids and millennial moms should act. And now I am 13 and I realize, sure my skincare collection has grown but these kids do not need retinol or anti aging creams. When you are at least 10 years old all you need is a good cleanser and a moisturizer.

Gen Xer here, raised by parents from the Silent Generation. They grew up at the end of The Depression and during WW2. When I was under 12, we had pretend makeup or mom would pretend to put stuff on our faces, because, yes, we wanted to mimic her. When we hit puberty, mom would start introducing us to skincare by getting a consultation at the Clinique counter. If I ever pitched a fit about not getting something I desperately wanted (I REALLY wanted some Calvin Klein jeans), then it was simple, "If you continue whining, then we go home and you get nothing" And guess what- she followed through. So much is wrong now: allowing their kids on social media, not using the word "no", and the increase in consumerism. I thought the 80's were really bad, but I seriously never thought it would get this bad. These parents are raising children who don't understand that the world will not revolve around their wants nor what value is- be it monetary or personal.

5:24 I’m 15 years old and I want to say that, as a daughter, I KNOW I’m expensive, but I’m expensive because I’m a “weird kid” and like having Miku figurines (I asked my dad a few days ago to buy a shelf due to not having space on my wardrobe that, unsurprisingly, acts like a TV stand for my figures), but also due to the fact that, in my culture, girls have quinceañeras when they turn 15 years and they are EXPENSIVE!!! Never once in my childhood did I ask for skincare. The only skincare I have is the one my mom bought for acne, sunscreen (I lost the last bottle in the 3-step acne skincare routine sob), and some skincare I got as a gift. That’s it. Never in my childhood would I have asked for any skin care, no matter how many times my mother has made me step foot into a Sephora cause I knew that wasn’t for me, and I didn’t know what it does

As a 2011 kid, I can confirm this whole internet thing is OUTRAGEOUS. People in my class do not know how to write a proper paragraph/essay and has trouble with spelling words like “constitutional” or “exceptionally”. On my bus, a girl my age told me her skincare routine. It was very long. And before everyone starts bashing at a random 13 year old (me), she has no acne or pimples whatsoever. She does not need any makeup products. As a matter of fact, no 12/13 year old should be wearing makeup. Just sunscreen. I will never raise my kids like these kids.

It's inescapable. A huge reason why more parents are homeschooling, because even if you have social media restrictions for your children, their peers don't. It all comes down to the parenting, but the damage is done.

@margot_massacre This. I'm 42 and collect toys like various doll lines I like and collecting / restoring vintage toys from my childhood. Aside from the consumerist nature of it (at least buying new releases) it's harmless. It's something that brings a bit of joy into my life. (Other things bring joy as well, this is just one thing). Having childlike interests is not a problem, and it's something that should be encouraged. Keeping in touch with your inner child is healthy. However, emotional immaturity IS a problem. A lot of these mothers on social media are insecure. Parenthood takes away a part of ones identity. Hitting your 30's and 40's for some can be another shock. Especially as millenial women, we may have not had a lot of the typical milestones of adulthood that our parents may have had. An emotionally mature person would say "well, I'm making the best out of it." An emotionally immature person cares too much about what others think. That's when they start posting for clout / attention, and exploiting their children for likes, views and sponsorships.

Im a millennial mother (31) My daughters are 10 and 7, and I don’t even let them touch my skincare products because of the risks of bad reactions because they are too damn young to have the ingredients on there skin! No way on this earth am I going to start giving them their own 🤣 They still use “no tears” children shampoos and kids bubble bath products because they are designed for sensitive skin. Baffles me how these women do this to their kids just for attention, because it benefits the child in zero ways! They also don’t have access to any social media apart from KZbin where they are limited as I have parental age capped at maximum of 12!

I only started using things on my face a year ago when i started getting pimples and bumps, and i am SO GLAD my mom told me what i can use and what i cant. currently i only use oil + water cleanser, toner, moisturizer, and sunscreen THATS IT and with makeup its just a bbcream, blush, lipgloss, and mascara. this overspending is so dystopian oh my goodness

Hi Hayley!! I love your vids! I was Born 2010 and I am not like one of these kids, my parents raised my like a respectable child and young Adult, these kids are doing it because they think it’s fun, yes I have skincare, but not heavily as them, I have five products. Face wash day cream no retinol, night cream, hydrating cream… all those kids need these type of products. I do it to make sure my skin is clean, cared for and cancer free. I have only KZbin as a platform and that is it. All of these kids think they are on top of everyone and are better than every one, they don’t need it, it’s a waste. Including make up. Love your vids!

What really drives me crazy is the people online who say this is okay! One of the biggest reasons I get is "well, you can start getting acne at 10" and "when I was 11 I had really bad acne." People, stop applying the minority to the majority! If you're that young and have bad acne, you need to see a skincare professional and work out a treatment plan. Products like these should ONLY be used by children this young if they're under MEDICAL SUPERVISION. And since when was acne really a bad thing? It is completely natural! This teaches kids that the worst thing that could happen to them is getting a pimple. Or wrinkles!! Parents who encourage this honestly make me sick. These little girls are going to grow up being so insecure it isn't even funny. Not to mention all the skin-professionals saying that their skin will age faster because of all these products. They're going to be 16 looking 30! All a normal, everyday 10-year-old needs for healthy skin is to drink water and wear sunscreen outside. I'm 23. I NEVER had a skincare routine or wore foundation, and my skin is actually pretty healthy. I should probably wear sunscreen but that's it! All this because I didn't destroy my skin at 10.

i mean i started getting acne at 10/11 and didn’t have proper products so i have a lot of scars. the thing these kids aren’t being taught is that less is more. if you put any more that four or five products on your face regularly (sometimes even less if you have sensitive skin) you’re just gonna break out more from irritation. a gentle wash, gentle moisturizer, sunscreen in the summer, and a gentle acne product (if needed) is all they need. they’re just so obsessed with looking cool that they’re not even thinking about the actual products going on their face

This reminds me of my own experience as a young child. Except instead of skin care it was food, and my mom ended up unintentionally giving me an ED. I don't want to type some of the things she said to me bc looking back, it's kinda awful and I don't wanna trigger people. But some of the things mirror phrases like "so you don't get wrinkles" or "the younger the better" and it honestly just break my heart because I seriously don't think these mothers understand what they're doing to their kids. The seeds they're planting on their young brains. The life long mental and physical problems these people will have when their older. I cry for these kids knowing the issues they will continuously fight against for the rest of their lives. And I'm angry with the parents who get defensive and refuse to listen. And then with the Internet on top of it all, amplifying everything.

I also think it's crazy that those Sephora moms that buy makeup and skincare stuffs for their kids for clout are probably the same moms that screams the pdfile word at a toy company bc their water play dolls are anatomically correct and complains that fashion dolls looks like s-workers. Who remember when there was this fashion trend many many years ago where kids as young as 5 was dressed in bralets/short tops, miniskirt/hotpants and shoes with heels until one they ppl woke up and started to realize that the fashion was really inappropriate. I remember H&M was the main company in the controversy, which isn't surprising.

This is definitely one of the best videos I've seen talking about this. Thank you for putting full blame on the parents. These poor kids are victims. I genuinely consider this a form of child abuse. Especially the mothers who are 'playfully' teasing their daughters and making fun of the obsession THEY created and encouraged. One of my aunts was like this. She'd buy my cousin makeup and revealing clothes, then turn around and slut shame her and tell her it was her fault for getting written up at school. Zero accountability. These women are setting up their poor daughters for a lifetime of body image issues, not to mention skin problems. No one that young should be putting all that stuff on their face. Those poor babies. 💔

Children often ask parents things they don’t need, I’m sorry your parents didn’t realize this. I don’t know how old are you but if you have your own income maybe you could buy her a toy or children’s book for her birthday: take her to the store and let her choose something that is for her age and within your budget. Get her excited for games or fairy books or Harry Potter, whatever.

But see that was recommended by a professional so you know it shouldn't harm you in the long run. Kids skin is super sensitive and all these active ingredients like vitamin c, acids and retinol are so damaging to healthy skin. They're to target specific problems for adults. I think it's good to teach kids to care for themselves but parents need to do it in an age appropriate way. Before puberty (unless special circumstances exist) it should just be wash your face, spf in the day and maybe lotion if you live in a dry area or something. And it's important to teach kids that the brands lie in marketing. Some products cause the issue they claim to fix so you keep coming back and buying more.

When I was 13 I had severe acne and a very oily skin, my mom took me to an amazing dermatologist who ran lab tests, prescribed me 3 products specifically for my skin, a proper following and she solved that situation very quickly. Obviously she told me everything I needed to know about how to treat my skin. She retired and now her daughter is my dermatologist. Today I’m 33 years old and my skin routine is prescribed, no more than 4 products and works well for me. My makeup is simple and prescribed as well, I know not every product will work for me, so I always follow my dermatologist’s advice. My whole routine doesn’t require more than 40$ at the drugstore. It was sad to see 10 year olds asking for skincare and makeup as Christmas gifts. All I cared about when I was that age was reading, painting, getting good grades and learn how to swim.
