Been working as an inpatient hospital phlebotomist for 10 weeks or so now. Been on my own for 4 of those weeks. I've already been hit by an out of it old lady. I'm also about to enter my third trimester of pregnancy and have been having worse hip pains because of pregnancy and being on my feet for 8 of my 12 hour shift. I asked my supervisor how she wanted me to handle being able to take a couple more breaks to rest a min during my 12 hour shift (they've been micromanaging like crazy and normally were allowed 2 10 min breaks during run which is 8 hours). She basically told me absolutely not and this other person worked pregnant so I have to do everything the exact same way that she does.

I didn't purchase my first "home" (tiny condo) until the age of 42. Just bought an actual house at the age of 45. Got relatively lucky with both, but the only reason I was even able to buy the first place was because my mother gave me $30,000 to put down on it. Otherwise I'd still be renting.

Yeah, the Little Mermaid was a classic but I totally get not being in love with it. The dude was boring! Ursula kicked ass and Ariel was fun and so was Sebastian, but I can easily see someone who has particular gripes (or a little sister who would NOT let off of it) coming back thinking it's a bit meh or just okay. Two things about this LAZY move though... 1) it's a bad example because being black is pretty much core to the existence of Black Panther's identity. You can't really swap it out. Let us know how that pans out for you. fun aside, the hand wave rightoids always try with White Black Panther is to say he could just be King T'Chaka's son from an affair or his secret adopted son. Well, they actually did that story. The White Wolf is Wakanda's sole white resident, adopted after T'Chaka found him in the wreckage of a plane crash that killed his parents. The people of Wakanda outright reject him (you know, since they're intensely xenophobic) and he doesn't handle it well, so he tries to kill T'Challa to rule by force as the new (white) Black Panther. He's the villain in that story. The right only like villains.

The singular overriding thing I take away from every Dave video is how unrelentingly angry he is at literally every facet of existence. He's just so pissed at everything all the time and it HAS to be exhausting, right? I'm trying to imagine Dave genuinely laughing at something or just being happy to any degree and I can't. The interesting thing is that the original Black Panther movie has received its share of criticism from black political commentators like Patrick Gathara who said it leaned heavily into racist neocolonial stereotypes in its depiction of African cultures, and that ironically the protagonist himself could be construed as a white savior type character. The film pushes a neoliberal narrative of applying tiny fixes to massive systemic problems, and vilifying the character who wants to take more drastic action.

@@unreasonablyagreeable1081 I can't claim to speak for the black community, but even though I consider the film one of the better entries in the MCU, it still raised some serious red flags for me. For example, the reason Wakanda is technologically advanced is not due to their ingenuity, but because they had a wealth of natural resources fall into their lap. Yet despite being this advanced society, the only way they can decide succession is through a violent bloodsport, as if they lack the philosophical sophistication to come up with a peaceful democratic transfer of power. Their governmental structure is a vertical power hierarchy (a monarchy) that looks like it was based on the outside world. Then there's the fact they spend all their time behind their force field, while colonized peoples suffer all around them. This isn't even just the fault of the films, as the original comics had similar issues. There was one story where it was revealed Wakanda had developed a "cure for cancer" and yet deliberately did not share it with the world. How can they think they're the moral or enlightened civilization at this point?
