I remember in my 5th grade health class, they showed us a video explaining everything and I remember it saying "During puberty, girls get moody" and tiny 5th grade me was like "Bitch I don't believe that" And tbh I still don't. I think we get moody because life becomes very stressful at this age, and instead of people trying to comfort us and help us they just say "Oh, they're just moody" and move on. I could be very wrong about being moody and puberty and stuff, but this is my personal opinion. Tbh I think people need to try helping kids through tough times instead of just saying "They're moody" and vertending like that's the problem. I especially am saying this because for most people puberty starts at around the same time you have to start doing new things and trying to adjust to that can be really hard for people, so they start acting moody.

My main problem with health class in the earlier grades is that they sugarcoat it a lot. Like I get that you don’t want to make things too awkward, but like, the subject itself is already awkward, even when you sugarcoat it, so why not give it to them straight and at least guarantee that kids will walk away with something important learned?

My memory of health class is this: I remember everyone was dreading the day, and my teacher told us to be respectful, it's ok to giggle, etc. I sadly already knew everything she was going to say, so I embraced the inner English nerd in me and started typing random shit on a Google doc. Whether it was Shakespeare or how many leaves are in the world, I was creating a distraction for myself. My teacher started showing, well, images, the kids were being annoying and gigling, and my teacher looked at me and said "oh, are you already asking questions? (She linked a private question website thing) I told her "no, I just don't have to know this again because I already know, so I'm going to type and ignore this) And she thanked me for my honestly and let me continue This tool longer than I thought to type, but that's my story on health class.

Our middle school class was actually quite tame with health discussions. Our high school health classes though, oh man. The class would phrase the terminology as inappropriately as humanly possible. And for CPR health, surprisingly tame, but we have that one kid that decided to start making out with the CPR dummy. I did laugh at that one though. Also modern health classes are now 99% don’t do drugs, don’t vape, etc. and 1% everything else.

In my state, every freshman in high school has to take a health course for half a year. God, was it dreadful. I remember the three units we had: Mental Health, Sexual Health, and Drugs and Alcohol. The MH and drugs unit were good, but the sexual health unit sucked. I remember when we had a test on sex and how many of my classmates miserably failed it.

Health class is one of the few classes that I enjoyed learning about because it actually taught me stuff that would be useful. In middle school it was basically "drug bad". In highschool though they taught us a lot of stuff. Obviously we were taught stuff like puberty and stds, but we were also taught about mental health, fitness and nutrition, and actual dangers and effects of schedule I and II drugs. Also helps that the teacher was chill and relatable.

I used the quadratic formula to turn an electric resistance + arduino into a thermometer . I measured points (tension in function of temperature), put them on a graph , asked the software (excel or regressi) to do a polynomial interpolation. It did the interpolation and gave me the function, I did reverse the equation to obtain temperature in function of tension . It was for my internship that I had to do in my electrical engineering curriculum (the subject was to make a battery management system, so I had to shut off the alimentation if the current/tension/or temperature was to high) (also had to equilibrate the tensions between18650 batteries).

I've only taken health class in high school but by then I already knew more than any kid should be legally aloud to know. So my teacher was interesting as she would say "while drugs are bad I'm not gonna be the one to tell you no, it's your choice at the end of the day".
