The only time I was triggered by the word "healthy" was when I was anorexic. If someone I hadn't seen me in a while told me I looked "healthy," I took it as having gained weight, so I'd immediately go back into high-gear starvation mode. Because back then "healthy" meant fat in my convoluted mind.

Tess is a very thin skinned woman that bases her self worth on what other people think. She wants to be told that she is hot, curvy, sexy, beautiful, all of that...but the moment someone mentions something (even a positive) that doesn't fit her narrative, then she is being body shamed. She truly is a woman that doesn't care about you or body positivity, she cares about herself and how she feels

Well, Tess will die anyway before she reaches 40. Either that or she'll start feeling funny things which will scare her and force her to see her doctor, who will advise her to do what she's been in denial of all along: to lose weight. These body positive people will soon find out that it will catch up on them eventually, much sooner than they think.

Walking alone is amazing for me. I was confined to a wheelchair for some time, and I could've ended up losing my leg. I didn't. I can both walk and run. Despite my disability and all my health issues combined, I'm still as healthy as I can be, despite everything. I'm truly grateful. Same for me. I never looked “fat”, but was very addicted to sugar, and I ate more than 200g of sugar everyday through desserts. Doctors said I was pre-diabetic, but I still worked out, so I thought I’d be fine, and then BAM, became type two diabetic. Two years later of fully cutting overly processed sugar that doesn’t come from fruit and honey, I was able to get rid of my diabetes. But hey, I was calling myself healthy then 🙃 deep down I knew I was not. Ps: I kept my sugar intake still under 20g.

She’s getting to an age where obesity starts to catch up with you, so who knows what’s going on in private. Why is it so bad to be skinny. What they don’t realize is they aren’t really showing body positivity by downing skinny girls... I’ve always been extremely self conscious about my weight, I’m really underweight for my height and age.. I’m basically a string bean. I have the same struggles as a bigger person, the same struggle of having an extremely hard time finding clothes that fit me, the same mental struggle of wanting to gain SO bad but I physically can’t no matter what I try(just like they want to lose but can’t no matter what they try) but it’s totally ok to down a skinny girl and put negative connotations around the word skinny, having comments thrown to you like “you need to eat a cheeseburger” as if that isn’t offensive as hell but people think it’s totally ok. No it fucks with my head and makes me think damn I must really look bad and must look too skinny just as my insecurities tell me. It validates all my insecurities. They need to be body positive to EVERYONE and not put negative connotations to someone else’s body type if they’re going to peg themselves as a body positive person.

Girl, tell those people they should lay off the McDonald's and eat salads for a month and then see what they look like. People's perception of "healthy" is so fucking screwed. I'm 5'5" and 230 lbs (20 pounds down from 250 in 3 months!). My best friends are all tall and beautifully thin ("underweight" by BMI standards). Some of my bigger acquaintances gave me shit for eating healthily, working out everyday and making an effort to lose weight so I won't become a diabetic. My best friend looks like a VS model; 6ft2 and 130 lbs. I went out for brunch with my best friend one day, and ran into our morbidly obese co-worker who gave her the stink-eye for ordering a delicious smoothie bowl. My co-worker made the rudest, most awful comments to my friend. I was hoping to give my friend the chance to stand up for herself, but when that failed, I opened my mouth and told that morbidly obese lady to either make an effort to get smaller herself, or stop punishing thin people for her own frustrations. It's horrible how many people think those comments don't hurt. Don't let them get you down honey

@Darcy ... there's other ways. Like, people have been unemployed and such since before the pandemic, and they're no different weight wise than those who work. Sure, working may (for some people, especially if you do hard labor) help you manage your weight, but it can absolutely go the other way around as well. Many people have jobs where they drive ti work, sit all day, possibly buy unhealthy lunches and/or dinners (unless they actually meal prep), drive home, sit in front of the couch, and then repeat the next day. So it varies a lot. I haven't been able to work for some years now. I just recently started working part time, two-three days out of the week. I'm disabled, so I can't really do much at all. I truly do all that I can. Even just being able to work the "little" I do now (to me it's a great deal, but I understand how that's "nothing" in the eyes of most people.. I get it. You're not me and you don't have my body, so zip it. I'm proud of what I can do, so I focus on that instead of what I can't do. If you ask me, that's what I'd call true body positivity/body acceptance!), is such a great accomplishment for me. Still, I find it easier to be healthy and manage my weight when I'm working, despite having less energy. I have a very active and fairly big dog, so I literally can't just sit around all day. I also have a cat that's not allowed outdoors due to where I live being unsafe for cats, so I try to do as much as I can daily to exercise him as well. Where I live, we've had actual lockdowns since the beginning of the pandemic early last year. We've only had essential stores open, like pharmacies, grocery stores, gas stations and such. Nothing have been open, except for short periods of time here and there. Despite all this, I've still managed to not gain any weight, nor become more unhealthy. When there's a will, there's a way. I absolutely understand how it can be more difficult for some people. I'm just saying, as soon as it gets inconvenient, people often easily don't bother trying to find other solutions. They blame it on everything else but themselves. If anything, not working should give you even more time to take care of yourself. Like, house cleaning is excersise. Take a walk/jog/run or ride a bisycle. Do some yoga. Find household stuff laying around to use as weights, if you don't have it already. You don't have to go to a gym to stay fit. There's a lot you can do, that is totally free. This pandemic is no excuse.

The only time I was triggered by the word "healthy" was when I was anorexic. If someone I hadn't seen me in a while told me I looked "healthy," I took it as having gained weight, so I'd immediately go back into starvation mode. Because back then "healthy" meant fat in my convoluted mind.

If as an anorexic you're told you're "healthy", in our brains it just translates to "you're not sick enough" and that triggers us. But I don't understand why someone like Tess would be mad for being called healthy, especially when it was not related to her body. She's all about "I'm fat and I'm healthy", but then when someone calls her skin healthy she's like "oH nO tHaT wOrD hAs nEgAtiVe cOnNotAtiONs". She contradicts herself lmao.

I’m 300lbs. I used to be over 400lbs. I do think that body positivity is important at any size however what I think of as “body positivity” is very different from the community definition. For me, I can stand here and I can say without shame or embarrassment: I’m 300lbs, I’m morbidly obese, and I’m beautiful. I’m a human being and worthy of love and respect. But also, my body hurts. My lungs hurt, my knees hurt, my back hurts. And BECAUSE I love myself, and my body; I think it’s important to put them effort in to do better for it than I have so far. And when I’m able to go from being immobile to walking a mile a day, doing yoga on a regular basis, starting some light weight training and so on... My body is happy for it. My body feels better. I feel stronger and more empowered. For me, I feel like I couldn’t start losing weight until I started allowing myself to appreciate and care about my body, and I had to accept what it had become in order to do that.

that is such a beautiful way to view it, and it's amazing how you improved! Buuuut I changed my water intake to much higher than it used to be with the help of a reminder app. I used to drink 1-2 glasses, now I'm more like 5-7 glasses and I can feel the change! Again, very proud of you, amazing job and always remember how important it is to accept yourself and your pain or anxiety. I learned to not neglect it and listen to myself better. Take care!! Really refreshing to hear your point of view on it. That’s the kind of body positivity I can get around. I think we can all accept that just shaming people isn’t helpful, and is likely to perpetuate the issue... but being realistic about the reality of having a bigger body and the very real limitations that come with it doesn’t have to come at the expense of self love. I’m a nurse so I see the reality of how being in a bigger body limits people’s mobility and overall quality of life often.. and there’s nothing shameful about wanting to improve yourself and your life. You can love yourself and still want to change to be healthier 💗 in fact making healthier choices is a form of self love in a way (or that’s how I like to think of it anyway haha) wishing all the best in your journey XX

"Every beauty standard except being thin" OMG THANK YOU for pointing this shit out!!!!! Body positivity does nothing for anyone with insecurities outside of being fat. This isn't just talking about those with physical disabilities or disfiguring injuries. I'm naturally skinny, but I absolutely hate my face. It's bone structure, so something I can't change with my diet or a little extra dedication. I would literally need surgery to fix the stuff I hate. Yet according to someone like Tess, I have "thin privilege" and body positivity is not for me. Well, Tess, YOU have "pretty privilege." Everything she does is Also massively unhelpful for the fat women out there who aren't "pretty enough to make up for it." I'm fed up with it. Where's the body positivity for the features we CAN'T change? Where's "EFF your beauty standards" for us "ugly" women?

But the sad thing is that nowadays if a person don't like their facial structure..if contouring makeup to draw away from facial flaws don't work..then saving for plastic surgery is indicated..and that is shamefully expensive. You don't offend me at all. I used to be very overweight, maybe even considered obese. I'm 5'8 and used to be 243lbs. A few years ago, I finally had enough. Took about a year, but I got down to 150lbs and have been maintaining ever since. Yes, I still eat treats, but I count my calories to keep them in check and I work my butt off at the gym and have a pretty active job. The way I see it, diet and exercise are essential to live well and happy. I love listening to your videos telling it like it is. I don't understand how these people can gorge themselves and think this is the way to live.

i love that you kinda voice of normality out of this radical tendency of american society, its really important to educate and show people that they need a littlebit of criticism, and to stop taking personal even fucking medical diagnosis, also you helped me to more accept myself because im skinny but naturally i really easly gain muscules, and im active so im end up with muscular body what i used to see this as unfeminine, but now i see that this actually awsome and beautiful, thak you!

Oh glob. These people need to get over themselves and accept that scientific fact can't be debated or ignored, and that it doesn't care about your feeeeelings. Being healthy is the BEST way to love and be positive about your body! Also, if "healthy" is a bad word....are they changing HAES? 🤔

Growing up, in my extended family, telling someone "you look healthy" was a passive-aggressive way of saying "you look like you've gained weight," "you look corn-fed, husky, or indelicate", or simply "you look like you've been eating a lot." No teenager especially wanted to hear this because it was often accompanied by comments about "filling out" when they'd previously received compliments on their "trim" or "model-like figure," with additional admiring and envious compliments about perceived virtues like self-control, discipline, and hard work, or just cooing about how they looked like fragile little ballerinas someone needed to feed ("here, have some cookies, I will take care of you little bird-bones!"). I DON'T LIKE TESS or her philosophy even a little, but in families where weight is a loaded issue and everyone is low-key trying to be the skinniest, "you look healthy" can mean something more along those catty lines (and no one offers you a cookie lol), and I'm guessing Tess carried that with her from growing up in a family where she might have received this compliment framed passive-aggressively. I've noticed with fat positive people they dream seems to be being encouraged and celebrated for eating whatever, whenever, and there's a weird kind of envy directed at people who are actually sick (like eating-disordered teens) who ARE being encouraged by others to eat, constantly, out of fear for their health and safety.

She doesn’t believe she is healthy, so when someone says she IS, she take it as an insult because unconsciously she KNOWS she isn’t. She probably feels like they are being sarcastic 🙌🏼

Lost 140lb, so I'm gonna take my "was fat fuh" priveledge here. Healthy is a slightly subjective word, but being morbidly obese is objectively unhealthy...as in, it will absolutely shorten your life span. Anywho, wanted to stop in and say this the most entertaining fitness channel I've ever found. Love your work.

In my late teens and early 20s I was underweight and had eating problems. I got better and I remember a male Friend telling me how healthy and well I looked. It was such a wonderful thing to hear. Even now I’m bigger and happy as I am, it’s great to hear I look good, well and healthy. Don’t we all just want to be healthy?

Is there a new slogan called AES (At Every Size)? Just that? It kind of makes more sense... Human At Every Size is what I think people were going for, or respect, or worthy. Healthy as a description is amazing. Ask anyone who isn't or wasn't, in any way. At Every Size.

I know my laziness is what got me to this point and I have been working hard for the last 2 years to get healthy and probably will need a few more years to get there. I am going for HEALTHY! Hi! I wanted to thank you for making these videos and daring to discuss this stuff. I had lost a bunch of weight while breastfeeding, but when I stopped I started gaining again. You have motivated me to make changes to my diet and routine to help me keep that weight off and not gain it back. Thank you! My body hurts less without the extra 20 lbs.

If "health" can be achieved at "any size," why is it suddenly implying weight loss?? Isn't calling someone who is overweight "healthy" exactly what they want????
