True, but unfortunately unchangable. To keep the game "spicy" over years and years, developers need to put in more and more content and usually ramp up the whole game basics making older cards look underpowered. Best example might be Yu-Gi-Oh. Twenty year old card game, the tempo nowadays insane. First turn two synchrosummons, no one actually tribute summons anymore, it's far too slow. Heavens sake, they'll have to make the font size smaller if they make the card descriptions any bigger. Now I feel the same for Hearthstone, the game pace is so much faster than in the beginning and the Magnitude of some cards feels ridiculous. It's a personal opinion, but enough to quit the game.

Nice to see that what i've always done seems to be pretty close to what you've come to. New expansion comes out, i spend all my gold on packs, typically getting between 60-80. For the first few weeks any gold I make goes towards new packs. This period lasts until I get bored of the current constructed meta, which usually happens 3-4 weeks after release. From here on my gold either goes towards Arena runs (because i like drafting) or into more packs of whatever i'm missing legendaries that I want from (usually is the newest expansion, but when it's not it's either Classic or one of the older ones that has a legendary i REALLY want). Once i get my newest legendary from that pack type i stop buying packs of that expansion and let myself make cards out of the dust i've accumulated. Then in the period between expansions all of my gold goes towards Arena (again, because i like drafting). Once the next expansion is announced i stop going into Arena and start saving for the next expansion. New expansion comes out, i spend all my gold on packs, typically getting between 60-80. Repeat. While i'm not FTP (I've bought both of those starter deals or whatever they're called where it's like 5 bucks for a guaranteed legend and a bunch of packs) and i've bought some of the Expansion Wings, I haven't bought packs with actual money in years, nor have i felt the need to thanks to having more than enough dust to make whatever i want when it strikes my fancy. And overall the amount of money I've spent since I started playing (around Naxx) is way lower than the amount i spent on MTG back in my last 2 years of high school, so i'm not complaining.

@starspaceschool5876 жыл бұрын
Or try to never dust a card, when it gets nerfed you get full value. Sometimes you get the full value without even disenchanting.
@Ex0rz6 жыл бұрын
Dusting cards is rarely a good idea especially if you just started collecting a certain expansion or classic packs. You will start getting those 40 dust packs pretty fast. Especially legendaries are a bad idea to dust, since you cant get two of the same legendary unless golden. If you dust a bad legendary for 400 dust, you might get the same legendary again. BUt if you keep the bad legendary you are guaranteed to get another next time you get one and thats 4x the value...
@TheHappy1156 жыл бұрын
I find that using arena to compare dust and gold isn't exactly always the best. I mean, I've seen multiple time where the 12 wins reward has a Golden Legendary in it (along with other rewards). I wish that the 12 wins rewards wasn't just complete RNG like Hearthstone in general. Because usually that card for me is a golden rare. Feelsbadman. When Un'goro came out, I did some research and it turns out if you dusted all cards you got from packs and crafted non-golden AND golden cards of ALL sets (including wild), it would cost about $33,000 (1051925 dust). And that was when Un'goro came out. I'm sure each expansion has increased that amount by a few thousand. Now obviously, no one is gonna dust a card only to recraft it, but it is still quite insane, especially when some of them are no longer collectible through card packs.

There is a diminishing return on buying Classic packs. Since you will get a free pack once a week with the tavern brawl, and you will likely buy some. Sometime in the second year you will likely have the playable cards and most of the legendaries because you will craft the best ones you didnt get. At that point think long and hard about buying more Classic packs since you will continue to get a free one each week and eventually get them all if you continue to play. The rest of the suggestions are good and close to what I do.
@j.b.68556 жыл бұрын
It also depends on what you have crafted. I recommend people in their first year focus on long term collection building. I wrote a post on Hearthpawn to help others with this info included. www.hearthpwn.com/forums/hearthstone-general/general-discussion/211142-mistakes-new-players-make In the first year avoid crafting high cost cards of sets that will rotate out. Focus instead on the Classic set since you will always have them. Presently I am in my second year have most of the playable Classic legendaries. I am missing a few that see some play Al'Akir the Windlord, Grommash Hellscream, Lord Jaraxxus, and Prophet Velen. But I am not buying more Classic packs. I will either get what I am missing in free packs or craft them if I really need them. I am focusing in on the current years sets going forward.

Rewatching this I think it's also important to ( depending on if you spend actual money on hearthstone or not ) take pre-order purchases into account. Considering that at least in Europe ( since I don't know if prices are different in other regions ) 60 card pack cost 70 euros so buying 120 packs would equal 140 euros but when you pre-order and purchase both bundles for 130 euros cost you 130 euro. So not only do you pay 10 euros less but you gain 10 pack more packs. In addition to that you gain 2 guaranteed golden Legendaries from the expansion set when you do so! Also dat free legendary at the beginning of the expansion. And since after around 80 or so packs you have every common and rare from those expansions in your collection, it'll net you a ton of extra dust meaning you can get some other juicy Legendaries or epics that are strong/that you want in your collection. All I'm saying is that if you want to spend money, have a decent classic collection already and of course have enough money you will be set until the next expansion comes out because it covers A LOT of cards. This is why I consider purchasing pack mid-expansion a waste, at least when you buy them with money. I know not everyone can afford this method of purchase but those are just my two thoughts on the matter.

I would like to know how being a new player might adjust these recommendations. It would be easy to say the recommendations still apply to new players, but I don't think this is exactly the case. Unless a new player lucks into several cards that all work into one very high tier deck and run with it, it's likely they will have to buy packs as they go. Saving is not really an option for them initially, because doing so will hurt the quality of their decks a lot more than a long time player. Unless they are a masochist, in which case saving may work great for them.

One good tip (although it might be worthless) is to keep track on your golden cards. It just happens that i realized that i had 3k-worth dust if i disenchanted my extra golden copies, but HS didn't told me i could disenchant them. lemme explain: if you have 2x copies of a kind, but you have a golden copy of the same kind, HS wont consider this as a 3rd copy, thus not allocating it amoung extra disenchantable cards. This happens (prob.) cuz HS wants you to keep this golden card, and gives the player the opportunity to chose between keeping the gold one and disenchanting the vanilla copy, OR getting rid of the golden card and getting extra dust. im certainly saving my dust for april, next year, since un goro, DKs and kobolds will rotate out, focusing on the newest year should give me a better upperhand latter on rather than crafting strong legs "from the past".
@alexandre5884 жыл бұрын
If you want a complete collection and/or want to maximize dust accumulation, know that legendaries will always roll as one that you don't have yet (unless you already have all legends of the set). Given that opening a legendary is the best thing you can do to minimize the total dust requirement (-1600 dust cost), and that any pack will do it, you have to look for the second best thing: epics. Always buy packs from which you have most epics missing.

Decent video but I had a few questions and comments as a fellow free to play player with a large collection. There's no way that 16.7% of the standard meta is boomsday. Can anyone confirm the statistics at 11:04? I also doubt that the Knights of the frozen throne is only 11.7%. Maybe they're switched? Also, I don't think using the average dust value of packs is a fair metric because the average is skewed by the absurdly rare "unicorn pack" with multiple golden legendaries. The typical budget player probably doesn't open enough packs to reasonably expect the highest value but would certainly expect the lowest value (1 rare, no gold) which is very common. I think the median value could be more informative. Finally (sorry if this is a nitpick) but I found the chosen powerhouse cards from Kobolds and Mean Streets to be odd. While I agree that these sets are more powerful, Razza wasn't really played and was fine until Anduin in KFT. I'd argue that kingsbane was never broken as the deck only beats control and is at least currently functionally a worse but simpler quest rogue. I think cards like kazakus, aya, Drakonoid OP, dragonfire potion, possessed lackey, coridoor creeper, aluneth, psychic scream, Sonya, voidlord, skull of the Manari, and fungalmancer all are more powerful.

I wouldn't just say that the later sets are stronger because of the shelf life of cards, it's because if the power level is about equal or worse (see: boomsday atm compared to KotFT / Witchwood), you'll see VERY few cards from the set in standard use. Yes, this means people will buy less cards, but the economic ramifcations for blizzard are even worse: people get REALLY bored with the game. Despite the current meta being arguably the healthiest (if slightly polarizing) meta in hearthstone's history, with an unprecedented amount of tier 1/2/3 decks compared to unviable decks, there simply aren't many new cards being used, with giggling inventor even rotating out. This has led to people like Savjz, and much of the community, quitting entirely, and the packs they aren't selling PALES in comparison to people QUITTING the game. I'm actually REALLY shocked to see it say 16.7% of boomsday cards are in the meta (or about 1 in 6.5 cards). I have no idea what boomsday cards those are, but I'm floored. Maybe I'm just mistaken, biased from community opinion, and maybe it's that boomsday cards are very supportive while witchwood/ungoro/etc cards, while fewer, are very deck defining. That's something I'd have to spend a couple hours looking into, instead of brainstorming in a youtube comment. They kinda go hand in hand, but I think it's a distinction that's important to make. It doesn't matter how good the game is right now. Boomsday, at least until the next set rotation, has the healthiest, and most boring, meta, because people have been playing the same decks for a half year now, with small tech differences. The sole exception is Boomsday Odd Warrior (8-12 new cards), and niche mecha'thun decks (basically 3-5ish new cards, but a boomsday card that defines it), but I digress. The end-of-year expansion has the most powerful cards because it HAS to have a REASON to replace previous cards. Blizz couldn't care less about how long cards stick around, they care about people even playing during the expansion. Edit: sorry this was REALLY nitpicky, and the entirety of your video was amazing, I just got carried away on a random point

I can see the logic how a stockpile of cards is more likely to increase in value than the raw dust. However, Millhouse is a poor example for keeping a card, even when Call to Arms was big in the game he was a risky thing to have in hand, it'd be better to have Dirty Rat in his place which has some actual use. Still your point is right, it's better to keep 4 spiteful summoners until you really want to get dust for cards rather than just keep a pile of dust and miss a nerf refund

Dust let's you choose card by card. Clearly the best way to get cards once you have a bunch already. Gold does open the Arena option though, so with gold you can get cards/dust AND Arena runs....
@ZombieSlav6 жыл бұрын
Agree with most of these advices, but as a completely free to play player, from a ton of experience: dust is absolutely more valuable than gold (1 gold = around 0,7 dust). And about buying single expansion in my personal opinion, don't cross the 80 packs, its waste of gold.

I would also add: stop buying packs just after opening legendary from that pack since there is pity counter for maximum value. right after opening it stop buying it?

I like the video but I don't think blizzard intentionally raise the power level for card sets later in the year. It's really hard for them to know what the meta decks will end up being and the power levels of cards is directly determined by the meta. Also is kingsbane and cube really that powerful? what about the lich king?
@TacSav2535 жыл бұрын
As far as not keeping a stockpile of dust, what about things being sent to the Hall of Fame? I feel it's good to have a stockpile of dust so you can craft golden copies of those cards whenever theyre sent to HoF. But does that only happen during rotations or can it happen any time randomly?

Its easy to open 5-7 packs per day if u are good at Arena (atleast 7 wins per run)

My question is this, on average how many games do you need to win outside of arena to get enough gold to obtain 50 to 100 packs?

Well I usually stop buying an expansion when I get a legendary because of the pity timer that functions for every expansion individually. So ofc at the start I don't stop but if I already bought 60 I would keep spending gold on it until I find the legendary and then stop buying it completely. Think that's reasonable

Just came back after a +2 year break from HS, only to realize i have to spend 70 euro x 6 to get back on track when it comes to owning all the cards? Thank you so much for making this video and telling me to uninstall the game again!

I cant belive I never thought of never dusting until needed, that's actully insanely smart. But now it hits me with a another question, if I have 10 copies of a card will the need give me the extra dust for all 10?

I didn't understand the part where you say not to disenchant extra cards, you need to wait for them to be nerfed? What if they're not nerfed? I usually just disenchant stuff...

Wuh-Oh, then by these theories, I've already gone wayyy overboard. I was always Diablo 1st, W.o.W. 2nd (and those 2 have since swapped places in my game-play) & then just last year, I had given H.S. a chance & am pretty addicted to it. I felt way overwhelmed at first & still am (NOOB, F.N.G., etc. I know)! 1st off: I've got only 1,905 Gold & 1,165 Arcane Dust as of log-in moments ago. I've also got 192 Open Packs & here's the breakdown as to what I've got left to open (sorry, but I can't remember what each deck is called, so I attempted to name them as best I can, based on the colors of the card-backs along with my limited experience in characters/areas of W.o.W.:

Is there a certain website that can suggest to me the best cards for all of our given Classes please? Thanks for posting this VID, it does help a bit.
@antondegroot60616 жыл бұрын
being F2P in hearthstone is no problem. Just play arena exclusively. However, even if you are soft infinite (average ~5 wins and add coin from dailies) in arena which is rather easy, it still really sucks to play constructed since you will only have the cards to build a deck by the time the season is over and the deck outdated.

i made a mistake of buying expansions and not playing with them because i quit soon after, its the worse feeling because the expansion gets rolled out and then ur left with wild cards :/ i suggest to anyone playing on and off to always buy classic packs because it never gets rolled out.
