Lovely video. Felix is a real fighter after his sad start. Such an innocent face and he's so observant, picking up the spilled seed and looking around at everything. Hope those trembles improve and he doesn't have any neuro damage. Thanks and well done to you all! 👍

Without people like you all this world would be garbage. All creatures great and small matter so much. Vervet monkey foundation proves they care about the little ones. And, kudos to the foster mommies for having the heart to step in and take the orphans as their own!

As always humans are at fault. The moment they found this little one they should have turned him over. If they did that, he would not have gotten into such a horrible shape. So glad the VMF is there to save these little ones.

Too bad that once a baby has gone through all the different traumas that are inherent in losing a biological mother, then bonding and breaking bonds with a series of humans and then finally get a 'forever' foster mom, and then gets taken from her due to heal reasons, usually quite suddenly and without any more contact with her while being treated. There are other ways to treat a sick baby that has made the connection with a foster mother without totally removing it from contact with its new foster mother so it does not have to relieve the trauma of losing yet another monkey mother, and it is the same trauma because even if the humans know he will eventually go back, he has no way and no experience that tells him he has not lost another mother. We have run into this many times where a baby has needed medical or surgical care after having been matched with a new mother, and depending on the monkey mother and how possessive they are of their new baby and how acclimated to human carers they are and if they will cooperate with them, we have been able to take mother along to the vet facility with baby to either share the same kennel/cage or be placed in the one next to it where they can see, touch and call to each other. Especially when we have had a problem where a baby is losing weight because they are ill, or have gotten new parasite load, have food allergies or other reason, they are going to be harder to feed, when getting them to is eat is the most important, if they are traumatized, depressed and grieving over loss of another mother they have bonded too.

It sounds like you are describing a difficult situation involving infant monkeys and their foster mothers. I understand that the loss of a biological mother and the subsequent bonding and breaking of bonds with humans can be traumatic for these animals. It is unfortunate that some babies have to go through these experiences. It is important to consider the well-being of the monkeys when they require medical care. While it may not always be possible to bring the foster mother along to the vet facility, efforts should be made to minimize the trauma experienced by the infant monkey. I agree that keeping the monkey and its foster mother in close proximity, either in the same kennel or in neighboring ones, may help to alleviate some of the stress that the infant monkey is experiencing. Ultimately, the goal should be to provide the best possible care for the monkey while also being mindful of its emotional well-being. It is heartening to know that there are people like you who are working to provide a safe and nurturing environment for these animals.

Pam D with wild vervets we have actually found the opposite to be true in many cases. Each case is individual, some foster mums get extremely stressed in a smaller area which is needed to treat the babies. We would not be able to syringe feed the baby or get him the required meds in this case with his foster mum. Having the mum in a cage next door we have found to create further unnecessary stress where baby cries all day and mum is v distressed. In the same cage mum will not let go of baby to be able to treat him and he wouldn't feed with her unfortunately. In some cases such as an injury we have been able to keep mum and baby together. They are now re-united and as little stress as possible was created.
